SAXON Completes Recording New Album - Aug. 28, 2012
British heavy metal legends SAXON have completed recording their new album for a tentative February 2013 release. The follow-up to 2011's "Call To Arms" is scheduled to be mixed by British producer Andy Sneap, who has previously worked with MEGADETH, ACCEPT, NEVERMORE, EXODUS and ARCH ENEMY, among many others.

A new video podcast from the studio can be seen below.

SAXON in April released "Saxon - Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken", the no-fat-no-bullshit-100%-pure CD/DVD featuring DVD highlights from the band's Wacken shows in 2004, 2007 and 2009 comprising thirty songs, plus a live CD from Glasgow in 2011. Each set captures the Barnsley-bred British heavy metal legends delivering classic after classic, from "Denim & Leather" to "Metalhead" to "Heavy Metal Thunder" to "Princess Of The Night" to "Crusader" in front of 75,000-pluds loyal, ravenous fans, who have come to expect (and receive) the levels of performance SAXON have been delivering for 32 years.

"Heavy Metal Thunder - Live - Eagles Over Wacken" is available in a variety of formats, including the Golden Ticket D2C/Direct To Consumer Box.

Strictly limited, this exclusive package contains the "Best Of Wacken" DVD, plus the full and complete SAXON Wacken Open Air performances from 2004/2007/2009 each on a separate DVD, plus a SAXON flag.

"Call To Arms" sold around 700 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD debuted at No. 51 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The digipack version of "Call To Arms" includes a glorious bonus — a free seven-track CD, "Live At Donington 1980".

Yeah I totally agree Painkiller87,its a quality classic heavy metal rock album that is in my opinion the band's 3rd best LP. Not one bad song on it and it sure beats the tar out of Maiden's Final Frontier piece of shit album thats for sure.

SAXON: 'Call To Arms' North American Release Date Announced - June 30, 2011
"Call To Arms", the new album from British heavy metal legends SAXON, will be released in North America on September 27, with distribution from EMI. More details will be made available soon.

"Call To Arms" was issued in Europe via Militia Guard Music, UDR and EMI. Recorded at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, U.K. and Brighton Electric Studios in Brighton, U.K., the 11-track album was co-produced by singer/songwriter Biff Byford and Toby Jepson (LITTLE ANGELS). Featuring Byford on lead vocals, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums, "Call To Arms" is bang on-the-money brilliant SAXON music, a confident embrace of the aura and writing values from their early years married perfectly to a modern SAXON crunch.

"This is probably the best album we've written and recorded in the last 20 years," stated Biff Byford unapologetically. "I know a lot of bands say that, but 'Call To Arms' really does feel like that to me. It's the perfect embrace of our past with a great modern edge."

Between the furious riffage of "Hammer Of The Gods" all the way through to "Ballad Of The Working Man", SAXON also found time to invite fans to sing on the nostalgic stomp of "Back In '79" thanks to a Byford brainwave the night before recording.

"We put something up on our website 24 hours before recording the track in Brighton, and funnily enough we had exactly 79 people show up on time to sing on the song," Biff said. "It was a fantastic result which is a direct tribute to 'Denim & Leather' where we did the same exact thing."

There is also a guest appearance from keyboard legend Don Airey (RAINBOW, ELO, OZZY OSBOURNE, DEEP PURPLE) on "When Doomsday Comes".

"Call To Arms" track listing:

01. Hammer Of The Gods
02. Back In '79
03. Surviving Against The Odds
04. Mists Of Avalon
05. Call To Arms
06. Chasing The Bullet
07. Afterburner
08. When Doomsday Comes (Hybrid Theory)
09. No Rest For The Wicked
10. Ballad Of The Working Man
11. Call To Arms (orchestral version)

Yeah I know, its not out yet over here either. Not sure when the due date is,I thought it was late June but I guess not lol! The band sucks for the lack of touring over here and now can't even get thier album out over here in time haha!  Well when it comes out you won't be disappointed, every track has something special to offer in traditional quality  british styled heavy metal and classic hard rock.

So I went in to a music store today to grab a copy of Call To Arms - no luck. I just hopped on to Amazon.com to grab a copy there - out of stock! ARGH!!!! LOL!!!
[J.D. DIAMOND] Saturday, June 11, 2011 4:24:03 AM
Yeah I know Becks that would be awsome. Saxon doesn't come to the U.S. that often, they tour Europe and keep busy but when it comes to dealing with a U.S. tour they are lazy and complacent about it and at the same time thier manager isn't helping either that much it seems anyways.

But thier new album is totally excellent, its worth checking out. I'd say its thier 2nd or 3rd best LP out of 19 studio albums. They really stick to the same formula and thats why thier albums keep coming out so good, they don't try and experiment too much .Sometimes the same thing isn't "bad" like so many people seem to think .

Now they have 8 straight studio albums that are the band's best 8 of their career. I'm sure they will deliver something special again for thier 20th studio album 2 years from now.

Wheels Of Steel live 2009 Wacken
[J.D. DIAMOND] Saturday, April 09, 2011 6:11:27 PM
Nope. Neve saw them. You know I didn't start getting into Saxon untill 2005 when my friend Tina from Walsall England got me into them. When she flew over here one of the times to stay with me for a week in 2005 she burned me thier entire discography, and yeah I knew their old stuff but thier albums from 1995 till now are so much better than thier old albums.

If I had to chose an era to see Saxon I'd chose anywhere in the last 16 years, but still yeah the Wheels Of Steel tour alone would of been cool to see......lol they looked so ridiculous back then haha but great first 5 studio albums before they went hair band lol!
