TOPIC: Comments about the Noticeboard
[JudasPriest WebMaster] Wednesday, July 03, 2013 10:21:17 PM
I have made a minor change to the display of messages on the Noticeboard.

If you have a user on your ignore list, then their messages will now be completely hidden from you.
Previously it showed they had posted a message, but then informed you they were on your ignored list and didn't show the contents of their post, now you won't even be aware of their posts.

If you spot any errors caused by this change, please post details here.

The link to KKDowning.net is in the Links section on the bottom of the Home Page at http://judaspriest.com/home/default.asp , along with the links to GlennTipton.co.uk and RobHalford.com

It was not a management instruction, but a HTML editing mistake on my part, that resulted in KKDowning.net link not appearing in the Navigation section on the top left of the website.  This has now been resolved.  I apologise for any confusion.

I upgraded the edit control that is used on the site yesterday.  Previously the edit control didn't work with Google Chrome, the new version now does.

I have now changed the configuration for what happens when you hit enter.

Completely false.
I work on the instructions of the Judas Priest management. Nothing appears on this website (excluding the Noticeboard), the Facebook page or the MySpace page without it being requested by the Judas Priest management and therefore the band themselves.
However, this Noticeboard is left to the fans to use as they wish as much as possible, with only serious misuse resulting in any intervention.

I am contracted by the bands management to run this website to their instructions.  It would be up to them as to what would happen in that scenario.

[JudasPriest WebMaster] Wednesday, April 14, 2010 12:24:25 AM

Welcome to the JudasPriest.com Noticeboard!

Rules

Being a member of this Noticeboard is a privilege and not a right.  You are expected to behave in a civil manner and refrain from personal attacks on other users.

Things that will result in your message and/or your account being banned:

  • Racist, Sexist, Homophobic comments
  • Belittling, ridiculing, or personal attacks on another member
  • Any post that includes anything that could result in police involvement - which includes but is not limited to: death threats, posting another users photo without their permission, posting personal details about another user including address, phone number or email address.

Offensive Messages

I ask all users to please use the 'target' icon on a post to report it if they find the message offensive.  These messages are reviewed periodically, and action is taken as required based on the above rules.

Repect Points Explained

Due to past abuse of this Noticeboard, we have had to introduce a Respect Points system.

All new users start out with 0 Respect Points and can only post in the Introductions [New Members post here] topic.
For the first month all new members are on 'probation'.  After your first month, assuming you have been active by posting on the Noticeboard a few times you will be promoted to a regular user and be assigned 25 Respect Points automatically.  This system has been put in place to prevent people abusing the Noticeboard after having their account banned, by just re-registering with a new email address.

You can also earn and lose Respect Points in a number of other ways.

Summary of Earning Points* New users start with 0 points and earn points up to 25 based on the number of posts they make and they need to be a member for 1 month
* Once you reach the 25 Respect Points the number of posts you make above this will have NO affect on your points level.
* Adding a User to your Friend List adds a Respect Point to them
* Removing a User from your Friend List deducts a Respect Point from them
* Adding a User to your Ignore List deducts a Respect Point from them
* Having a Message Banned deducts one point from the User who posted it

Respect Points Calculation Update

I have also ran an update for all existing users Respect Points to accurately take into account:

a) their number of Friends
b) the number of people Ignoring them
c) the number of banned messages.
d) All users who are out of their first month probabation period have been allocated 50 respect points, plus or minus the changes caused by a, b and c.

To allow me to do c) I have deleted all previously banned messages (702 of them as of 5th July 2006) on this Noticeboard.

This Respect Points calculation is now scheduled to run once every day.  So, once a user finshed their probation period they are allocated 25 respect points - enough for them to start using all the features of the Noticeboard.  However, as soon as a user achieves 25 respect points they are then allocated 50 respect points plus or minus the changes caused by a, b or c.

From now on (5th July 2006), any messages I ban will affect your Respect Points.  I will only ban messages that are unacceptable.  People who reply (quote) to a message which is banned will have their messages DELETED.  This means that you are not punished for replying to an unacceptable message.  Of course, if the manner in which you reply is unnacceptable then your message too will be banned.  By Deleting this messages, it will not affect your Respect Points, but it will affect your Post Count.

How to use the Friends List

* Under Admin you can see your list of Friends.  From here you can Remove users that you have previously added to your Friend List.
* You can add a Friend to your list by clicking on the 'Add User as a Friend' link when reading a Message (PM) in your Inbox.
* You can also add a Friend to your list by clicking on the 'Add User as a Friend' from a Users Profile.

Other FAQ

* You lose points by people having YOU on THEIR ignore list, not by you using your ignore list.

* Once you attain 25 respect points you cannot go below this.  That is, once you have passed your probation period you will never be demoted back to having less than 25 points.  You may drop below 25 respect points, but only for a period of 24 hours.  The daily automated points calculation task will then increase you back up to 25 points.

Ignore User effect on Respect Points

The Ignore User feature is only available to those people who have more than 25 points.  This is to prevent people creating new accounts just to ignore users and affect that users Respect Points.

Edit Message

There is a time restriction of 30 mins on being able to Edit your messages.  That is, you can edit a message for up to 30 minutes after you have posted it, but after that time your message cannot be changed.  This gives you the opportunity to edit your message to fix spelling mistakes etc immediately after posting it, but prevents you from posting abuse and then editing it later before I have had time to review your message to determine if it should be banned or not.

Summary

Hopefully all of the above is not too confusing.  In summary, as a new user you are on probation for 1 month which restricts you from posting anywhere in the Noticeboard.  After 1 month of using the Noticeboard, assuming you have made a few posts you will be promoted to a full user of the Noticeboard with access to all the features here.

Once again welcome and enjoy your time here.

Regards,
JudasPriest.com WebMaster

Could you please explain what you mean by your rant towards me?  You have choosen to attack me in this public forum rather than PMing me with your concerns, therefore you have chosen to bring this discussion into the public areana.

I received a PM from yourself (and others) complaining about the behaviour of certain user on this Noticeboard, I reviewed their account and banned them due to content of their posts.  I banned all messages that they had posted on the Noticeboard, along with banning all comments by other users that quoted their comments, or were personal attacks back on that user.  That is standard procedure when a user is banned or a war breaks out.

u can ban my wife at the drop of a hat for one comment
Answer: yes, a user can be banned for 1 comment if that comment is a serious violation of the rules of this website.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Over the next week or so I will be migrating this website onto a new webserver.  This may involve some downtime of the Noticeboard during this transition, but I will endeavour to keep this downtime to a minimum.

As part of this move, I will be performing a cleanup of the older messages stored on this noticeboard (any message older than 12 months will be deleted).

This Noticeboard has certain rules as to acceptable conduct which applies equally to ALL of its members.   Violating these rules will result in the instant banning of their account.  This has been the case since this Noticeboard began.

New Noticeboard Feature: PM from Friends Only

You can now choose to only receive PMs (Private Messages) from people who are on your friends list.

The default setting for all accounts is to accept PMs from anyone.

If you want to change your account settings so that you only receive PMs from people who are on your friends list,
go to Admin - Edit User Profile and tick the 'Only Accept PMs From Friends' option and Save.

Hopefully this new feature will make this Noticeboard a more enjoyable place for those people who are receiving abusive PMs from people who are not on their friends list.

Check this post for details on the current server situation.

Whilst we are running on this backup server the site will be running considerably slower, as some of you have noted below.  There is also issues with timezones etc that I am aware of.  However, these haven't been my priority these past few days, and once I move this site back to its usual server those issues will no longer be a problem.

Another update on the attack:

After many hours of investigating this virus attack, I have now proven that the judaspriest.com server was in fact not compromised in any way, and was not infected with any virus.

I have been in discussions with the hosting company network engineers, as I suspected that the problem was being caused by something else within their network. I have just heard back from them now where they confirmed that I was correct, another server within their network was infected and performing a quite sophisticated attack (known as Man-in-the-middle ARP spoofing) which was making it appear that judaspriest.com was infected when it was actually just a victim of this other attacking machine (which was inserting a line of rouge javascript at the top of every web page served up by the judaspriest.com webserver and other webservers on the same vlan within their network).

If that last sentence made no sense to you then dont worry, I just wanted to give a technical explanation in case anyone reading this is technical and wanted to know the gory details!

I am now in discussions with them as to what they are going to do to ensure their network isn't susceptible to this kind of attack again before I move the judaspriest.com website from back from the temporary hosting server to its usual hosting server.

As always, when browsing the internet ensure that you are running good, up to date virus software as these kind of attacks are becoming more prevelant.

Update on the server situation:

This site is currently being served from a backup server.
Maintenance is currently being performed on the usual server to ensure any Trojans/Viruses have been removed.

The Noticeboard is now back online.

Google is still marking judaspriest.com as containing malicious code - this is no longer the case and I have sent a request to google to review the status of the site.  If you use Firefox, you may be getting a security warning when trying to access this website, this is due to google flagging this site as containing malicious code - you can now ignore this security warning from Firefox.

I am aware that currently this website has an embedded hidden link to a malware/trojan website.  I am working to resolve this issue now.

As always, please ensure you have a virus scanner running and the definitions up to date.

I have done a complete security review of the JudasPriest.com Website and removed any trace of the scripts that were attempting to install viruses, and made some changes to prevent this occuring again.

If you do receive any virus warnings in future whilst on JudasPriest.com please post here so I can investigate.
