I am sick of people comparing every Priest album to Painkiller.

Me too.
Plus, THOSE were actually clear sentences.

I'm glad you guys chimed in on this one. I was going to but didn't want to be the only one.
That comment is ridiculous unless you want to be a fanboy. Sorry, but that's not in my blood.
I know I like Priest as much as anybody but I'll criticize if I believe it's warranted.
If I don't like it then I don't like it, Priest or not. Hell, they probably don't like everything they've
done.

I guess i am not a true fan eventho i spent tons and tons of cash on Priest over the years buying albums, tapes,cd's remastered cd's etc etc!
But because i don't LOVE every album i am not a true fan!
Where is the definition of a true fan written so that i can read it!
Thanks!

The PAINKILLER album is amazing too.
A true fan loves every JUDAS PRIEST album and doesn't produce ridicolous conceptions, theories
against THE MUSIC.
But, lots of guy "cry" for a PAINKILLER "chapter two".And i agree with them.Yes.
Why?  IMO:  Media cannot ignore or underestimate a PAINKILLER "chapter two"
This means a  extremely big success(popularity, money etc.)  for JUDAS PRIEST.

Hey Metalman, try to check out a video of the Dortmund Festival from 1983. I think Priest was at
their peak on that one. I don't know that they've been better since. just an opinion though. (only matters to me)

I watched a bootleg dvd of the Painkiller tour (Middletown, NY) last night.  And that has to be the best concert I've ever seen. Priest was at their best , the crowd was going crazy and Halford was AMAZING. I forgot how good that tour was and it's hard to believe it was 20 years ago !

I disagree. I didn't appreciate Blood Red Skies in the Epitaph tour date I attended, but I really appreciated Painkiller. Rob has always sung Painkiller with an acid vocal "compression" that makes the difference and allows him to keep the song near to the original even in recent times. High clear lines such BRS ones are obviously more difficult to manage. Rob confirmed it himself in a That Metal Show episode, when he said that Painkiller is one of the easiest song to sing alive in the whole Priest repertoire because it goes “into a register that’s pretty uniform”, while the toughest ones require “control on breath like Beyond the Realms of Death, i.e.”.

More, I found Rob's voice really great in this tour in an absolute sense, to be honest. Performances on many songs such as Victim of Changes and Beyond itself were totally amazing (and I tought it after a few quiet re-listening, not because of the emotion of the moment).

To be back in topic, I’m tired of people comparing every Priest album to Painkiller as well. :)

[jimmyjames] Tuesday, August 23, 2011 6:39:07 AM
When he sings it these days he sounds like bobcat giving birth to an extremely big, sharp cub.
[soccer star] Monday, August 22, 2011 12:43:59 PM
Glad i am not on my own with this lol

I told a friend of mine how naff i thought the intro to  BRS sounded at the recent Priest show we went to.
He said it sounde fine to him so i played him a video taken from that show and he was shocked!! cus he was at the front and 'Buzzin' about seeing the band
he didn't take it all in.

I think someone may have mentioned it to Rob as i have seen another live snip of BRS and he sings the intro an octave lower which is sensible, he should do the same for Painkiller. It doesn't bother me
that he can't always hit those hight notes anymore, he is almost 60 !!

[J.D. DIAMOND] Sunday, August 21, 2011 1:34:51 PM
Yes I agree. I find it hard to belive they chose tracks that he can't sing anymore, yes I still do like seeing a track like Blood Red Skies in the set list but lets face it,he can't sing it in a high pitch anymore and same with Painkiller. Like I told Hellrider,I'd be fine with him just not singing in high range anymore even on the new studio LP,it would be fine with me.

Hellrider and countless others say he can still hit those high notes but its extremely far and few between. On the Rising In The East he hit a few notes for a brief few seconds but other than that there are no videos of him hitting these kinds of high notes. I think when people hear him live they are so excited about being there and how loud it is doesn't give the listener a real chance to sit back and hear what they are hearing.

Blood Red Skies is painful to listen to live and wish they would drop it from the set list. I wish they would chose songs Rob can "actually sing these days".

I think if Halford would just tone it down a bit throughout the song and quit trying to sing it like the original, let out a few good quality screams at the end it would be a much better live performance. I think the track would be just fine that way. He just trys too hard to match the original. Rob ...are you listeneing?

I loooove Painkiller but (i know i will get stick for this ) i wish JP wouldn't play it live anymore.
I think Rob finds it hard to sing that song now and when i saw em recently it sounded a bit naff (blood red skies was another that didn't sound great ) and as thay have played it at every gig they have done since 1990
i would have liked it to have been taken out of the set for the current tour. They have an army of songs to choose from that would satisfy the Priest fans.

Ok everyone...kick my ass! but i am being honest.

i run every day an i always listen to something off of painkiller. it just seems to kee me going.
[spapad] Saturday, January 08, 2011 3:51:54 PM
I agree with you Sentinel. Priest's work should be judged against it'self, not other bands. I know when I heard Dissident Aggressor, it did not sound old at all, it sounded FANTASTIC!!!  I had much respect for how they played that live and it sounded like it had just been made yesterday!

painkiller is a great work of metal you can't deny that, but I think the songs on rocka rolla are just as good as the songs on painkiller. When painkiller came out it was the heaviest, and fastest priest album to date so therefore it appealed more to speed/thrash metal fans and people do tend to like faster albums to slow ones. But anyway I would rather have people compare priest albums to other priest albums then to have them compare priest albums to maiden albums. That bugs me more than anything

I would'nt call Painkiller overdone.
Maybe overproduced that is really my only complaint about priest's albums since unleashed
It would be great to see the band release a raw back to basics metal album in the vein of sin after sin or stained class
slow some of the tempos down and make thing heavy in a different way
maybe they should stop recording exclusively in digital and get back to the old powerful analog sound that their reputation was built upon
metal does'nt have to be so slick

Painkiller is thought of as "overdone" because Turbo  & Ram It Down were so weak for the Priest, and once that came out, Yes, the bar was put there and everyone expected the Priest to keep putting out albums like it. But IMO, I FUCKING LOVE PAINKILLER!

As to new Priest albums: Anything like Angel Of Retribution would kick ass. (Which a lot believe would have been the next album, or come along sooner than '05, IF Rob never left in '92...) I'm not expecting them to put out another Painkiller album, due to their heightening ages... But if it's like AOR, I'll be first in line for the album!!!

Well we can compare albums, because they are performed by the same group and written by the same composers. I doubt if Priest (or another band) would want a bunch of sad fanboys/girls brown nosing everything they released and never ever making critical remark over their releases. I hate fawners and I'm sure they do too.
[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Hellbourne from Monday, May 31, 2010 6:10:04 PM)
[Hellbourne] Monday, May 31, 2010 6:13:48 PM
If anything... Pain Killwr is thought of so much because it was the last album Rob sang with the band for 12 years. I certainly so not hear any complaining about Demonizer with the other singer.. who I thought sucked.
[Hellbourne] Monday, May 31, 2010 6:10:04 PM
I do not think one should compare albums. granted Turbo and Ram It did not have many great songs as many other albums, but JP still creates the very best in music. It seems that many still live in the old days, or songs. Just as many say the same exact things about Ac\DC's latest album and a few others. It falls upon one's taste in music... and if one can change as the bands music changes in its creating. British Steel is British Steel, and someone would be complaining if JP made the same exact or copied British steel format in every song. It is a hit and miss type deal. If any of us could write or perform better... it would be one of us standing on stage, but apparently we complainers cannot write or perform, nor should they be so judgemental.

Just a ponderance -
is Painkiller the "standard" to be compared to because it was the first to feature Scott ...
who remains Priest's drummer extraordinaire?
So people feel it's "the bar" for the current line-up??

So many people lost "faith" when Turbo came out ...
and Painkiller not only returned to the driving power Priest was known for BUT it also incorporated current hard rock/metal trandsat the time.

Not sure why ANYONE feels the need to compare albums.
One album isn't supposed to sound like another otherwise you're likely stagnant and not evolving.
[Brian_Evans] Sunday, May 30, 2010 12:28:40 PM
If the next cd can be at least 75% as good as Painkiller then it will be a success and destroy-crush Nostradamus.
[metalmaz] Saturday, May 29, 2010 10:41:44 AM
It's not my favourite JP album, but it's still pretty good. It's superior to Turbo and far far better than Ram It Down. Hell Patrol and Night Crawler are great songs. They need to drop the title track in concert though
Edited at: Saturday, May 29, 2010 10:42:55 AM
[onetreehill] Friday, May 28, 2010 7:20:19 PM
After Turbo and Ram it Down, Painkiller offered hope that the Priest could still produce great, hard core metal. Painkiller is a great album made greater by the weakness of previous efforts. For me Priest's greatest moments came in the Stain Class - Defenders of the Faith stretch (ok, slight mistep with POE) Painkiller would have fit well into that period - would have been a great follow up to DOF. It is a Priest classic!
[Priestfan94] Saturday, May 08, 2010 2:23:00 PM
Painkiller is okay, but not MY favourite Priest album. I think it's a little too rough, and I like abums like Sad WIngs of Destiny, Turbo and Nostradamus better. But of course - That's just my opinion. And every Judas Priest album rules. :))

Take it easy B.S.  Just come to terms that the short abbreviations for texting most of us wont get, so best to just talk.

[british.steel] Thursday, June 18, 2009 9:51:43 PM
well i just assumed he was a guy,

but i wont the spelling bee in  4th grade...sadly i was runner up in 3rd grade because i failed to spell the word "cocoa" and i guess my spelling skills just went downhill. yes im 16  now, and maybe its all the texting tht ruined my spelling
[Vaillant 3.0] Thursday, June 18, 2009 9:49:00 PM
Misspelling isn't a big problem...but it does make you look like you're not very knowledgeable about anything. Spell correctly and you may get a few nods from some of the old farts here. You're 16 right? You have a long way to go.

By the way...how did you know Maple Syrup was a guy? You haven't been around too much but you already know his gender. Do you read the Sinful thread?

A shitty member I never accused you of being. No one would understand your former posting, not even my child who loves to text understood it. Why post something illegible?

This is not the way older people talk. I have no idea what that means, that is why people are having a hard time. Learn to edit your stuff before putting it out for public consumption. That made no sense. What do you want us to do with what makes no sense, except avoid it. Strat is a young member, and so is Joe, and a few others, but you must consider what you post. If we cant understand it, what good does it do to post it.

Then let it go. It's not important. Maybe he thought you were older and were just very juvenille in your remarks.
Don't mean to insult you, but we do have some adults on here that don't post very well and they are usually people out to disturb the peace. With that said Kiddo. Welcome to the boards!

i am calm, but its kindof annoying when all i do is ask him why his name is maple syrup, in the friendliest way i could. and then he completely insults me saying he laughs at my posts cuz i have the judas priest knowledge of a 17 yr old lad or sumthin like tht. (which i am 16) and it made me mad. im on here because i enjoy talking about priest and music etc, not to be criticied by a delicious liquid tht makes pankakes taste good.
