Stopped by to see of this Thread was still here and, lo and behold, it IS! Also took a minute to read Guid's last post and..well, I kind of teared up a bit! HA!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though, what kind words and heartfelt sentiment! Really makes an old man feel good inside! What we did all those many years ago remains a very fond memory for me as well. Such a wonderful experience. We made the music and, as music always seems to do, we bonded through it. One cannot over emphasize the power of music... especially when it is the music of the great Judas Priest.
The Princess and I often chat about the two trips we took back east. The time we spent in the company of new friends. The relationships we forged. And, of course, the music we made. I have both albums on my i-pod and I listen to them when I work out and, occasionally, when I am in need of a boost, as it were.
I miss you all very much and I still consider you often. I peek in here from time to time and, as you see, I post .. albeit rarely. I trust you and those you love are well. We are. All my best to you!! |

Thanks for those words Guido. I am sure that I speak for Freeze and everone else involved when I say it was a fantastic experience. I took a week off from work to record all of those tunes and it was the best vacation I ever took. Meeting and gaining new friends was icing on the cake. If I had the time, I'd love to do it again.... [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Wednesday, July 24, 2013 10:59:11 PM) | | guidogodoy wrote: | |
Tonight, I had a revelation. Most who know me also know that I often listen to entire albums when doing two different things: while riding the Big Green mowing my lawn or while running. Today was the former.
It hits me. The BS that has been flooding this site of late pales in comparison with what was accomplished here - TRUE fans that got together and made two outstanding tribute albums. I was a reader when “Raw Steel” was conceived and came to be. Listened to it again today. Phenomenal accomplishment thanks to this website. People met, some travelled and made a wonderful recording. Next? “Forged Steel.” Again, unprecedented here when true fans got together and recorded another masterpiece that was even linked to KK's Mill.
These recordings mark the pinnacle of the site, IMO. Fans that got together to record the two wonderful albums and then gave them away freely to any other fan that simply wrote asking for them.
I actually got the first recording from Shotz (as he called himself then). Didn’t know him but he sent it to me freely and without hesitation. Those that don’t have either recording don’t know what they missed. THIS is the thread to back-read – the one that details the accomplishment of Judas Priest fans that I will forever hold in high esteem.
Long live the Faithful Defenders. For my part, I thank you for what you have done. Edited at: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 11:05:52 PM |

Your right. I know that when I meet up with people from this site I feel an instant conection. for the most part we are like a family. sure a few nuts intrude here and there but overall there are some very real conections made here and some great things. Heck we had members get married because of this site. Beautiful music made available to us all thru this project and hopefully something similar can happen again |

"Raw Steel' / "Rapid Fire" - I was mowing the lawn the other day (riding mower with music in my ears) and heard yet again the error on the verse: "the slipping and..." (mute) that picks up only on "sliding..corrosive subsiding."
Now who messed that up? Singer (yes) or mixer? LOL! What the hell happened? Behind the Music wants to know.

You aren't going to believe it but when I had first agreed to do the art for the Faithful Defenders, I was toying with the idea of making a giant planet / exploding star as can be seen below. This is datestamped 2008 and was rendered using an addon pack for a video game. I was leaning to using the upper-left and wrapping FD and Forged Steel around the planet at a slant.
I only toyed a bit with the idea and ultimately threw it out because I wanted to go for a more "traditional" Priest look. Too funny....(or freaky, as the case may be).

Okay, vack from the holidays and straight to important matters!
I received a certain package in the mail while I was away, had to go fetch it at the post office, and within was the CD made by Priest Maniacs for other Priest Maniacs.
Hell yeah, it rocks, mates! Some songs were pulled off better than others but that's life! What's a fact is that all of them are competent, top notch covers of the Priest classics, even if Between the Hammer and the Anvil and Never Satisfied would seem a bit challenging vocally. Interestingly, the first is my least favourite cover on the Cd and the latter one of the favourite along with Judas Rising and Wheels of Fire.
Keep up the GREAT work guys!

So, does that mean the Faithful Defenders are done? If so, well then...let me say a word or three.
All those involved, past and present, in making the music (playing an instrument or singing), recording, doing the art, distributing, etc. should give themselves a pat in the back. It's no easy feat playing music that pays proper tribute to the Metal Gods to begin with...but with the support of everyone in this site past and present, as well as support from friends and family, now there are two albums that show the dedication, effort, and love for Judas Priest that only a group of hardcore JP fans (such as FD and co.) can create. And quite frankly, they are great works of art. Thanks alot to all of you for giving us these CDs and for giving us a chance to hear Judas Priest's music played in a style well-deserving of praise. GO FAITHFUL DEFENDERS!!
...And yes Guido. That bag that DF had on the day he arrived in Detroit was a man purse. A MESSAGE TO ALL
I need to know if there is anyone who has not yet received their copy of the new CD?? I am talking about those of you that have e-mailed me and requested a copy. Is there anyone I missed??? Please remember I am an old man and I do tend to be somewhat forgetful. I want to be sure that there is no one waiting for something I have yet to mail!!! Just PM me if you have not received yours. |

I just received Raw Steel yesterday, but gave it a spin this afternoon. Here's my small review:
In short, it's an awesome first album by the Faithful Defenders!!! Good job to all those involved!!!!
I gotta admit that this album was full of surprises. It came plain (no album cover), but I didn't mind. It's the contents in the CD that's important, darn it!! I was literally at the edge of my seat in between songs, wondering what the next one might be (mainly because the CD case didn't come with a tracklist, either. HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
I noticed that DF's voice has alot more 'growl' in this one. Not only that, but he hit some pretty high notes, especially in Tyrant and Beyond the Realms of Death, which took me by surprise. Just like the second FD album, the band took the songs and gave them their own little style. Again, MM does a great job with playing the guitar solos and also in improvising. He only got better with Forged Steel!! Thumbs up to you, MM!!!
In general, the great talent that shows up in this one is, as the title of the album quite nicely says: Raw!!! It all matures very well in the second album. Whoever does not have the first one already, get it (or ask DF). It's a must-have!!!!!
I also admit that the first track scared me for the first few seconds because I couldn't for the life of me figure out which JP song it was from. After about 30 seconds, I realize something: it's an instrumental (oops!). The song is cool, by the way. It's got a Halloween-ish tone to it! As far as the rest of the album goes, my favorites are Heading Out to the Highway, Tyrant, Worth Fighting For (very hypnotic, really), and Hell Bent for Leather.
And that's my small (I think?) review of the first Faithful Defenders album. I had a great time listening to it twice and I can't wait to give it a few thousand more spins. Thanks and once again, great job Faithful Defenders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Forged Steel is with me finally!!! Here are my impressions: The very moment I received the package I felt so part of the Judas Priest Community Forum. I loved having my online name written on it!
I second everyone here. You`ve done a wonderful job! Excellent tracklist choice. You all sound awesome. Strong vocals Freeze! It`s so pleasant and energizing to listen to talented musicians playing and singing these tracks we love so much! Forged Steel is an excellent tribute album done with love, dedication and respect to our beloved Metal Gods! I applaud you! My favourite tracks are Judas Rising (impressive start), Between The Hammer and The Anvil, Eat Me Alive, Jawbreaker. I also like the original "Forever Young", awesome.
Thanks for the CD Freeze! I`ll play it loud so that my whole country can hear! I`m already sharing your music with my friends and they are all impressed!
Guido! beautiful artwork! Congratulations. The CD looks gorgeous with all my Priest Cds.
Thanks Deep Freeze, Metal Meltdown, Metallark and everyone involved in this wonderful project.
You Rock Faithful Defenders!!!
Stay Metal

ONE friggin job??!?!?!?!!!?? ONE FRIGGIN JOB???? Look wise guy, do you realize I had to go out, buy the right jewel cases, put these all together, find packaging, get mailing addresses, label all the packages, keep records on all the shipments....one job!! Pffff! That right there is more than I do in a MONTH!!!!!!
Keep in mind that we will be living together for a week very shortly...Now then, proper genuflection is in order. Oh , and for the record, all the CDs were placed in the "upright" position! Hitch-hiking, indeed..... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mostly need to learn how to master Adobe, which I never use because no one at my building uses it, but the boss in OH is very into Adobe and sending PDF files via emial. I wondering if the home office has an Adobe sight set up already, that would make his requests much easier, if I had access to that account. As for a good pdf text? Sorry. While I am sure I could help you with most questions, I don't recommend a single one. Info changes too quickly to invest in a book. One day I'm going to have to pick your brain on PDF since, I'm not very well associated with it and it would improve my work skills to know more than what I do. Perhaps you know a text I could buy that would teach me more about that format? No great hurry, but it is something I need to learn more about. | | guidogodoy wrote: | | You know, Spa, I wish I could give you a simple answer. The shot pictured was taken with a 7.1 mega Canon "point and shoot" but I also took shots with a Nikon I have at work where I took all the pictures. Sorry, no model number here as I am at home. As I lugged in all four guitars + drumsticks (not used), I took a LOT of shots. I do believe I used the Canon shots, though.
As for software, it is even more complicated. I did most on a Mac shelling out to Windows / Photoshop Elements. Finding that Elements didn't do what I wanted, I went to a full version of Photoshop. Lots of back and forth with Mac, though. Colors, for example, were easier in Mac than Windows but I run both on this machine so I am just dragging and dropping. Isolating the guitars (from the STAND sucked!) was just a grind and easier with Photoshop. Only had a PC version, thus the shelling out to Win from OSX.
Final product was started with a limited then expanded to full version of Disc Cover for Mac. CD art and text, especially, as it was easier to wrap both to the physical needs of the CD jewel / round CD itself with diameter for the hole. Had to dump both from jpg to pdf on the fly, though, as I could only see defects with the "non-flattened" image once printed. CDs were printed from a jpg while all else was a pdf using windows. 60lb paper as I found photo paper would crack too much when folded.
There. The simple explanation. I'll save the more technical parts for the DVD. Rest assured that it included breaking out all JP + previous FD cover art, other CDs I liked, downloading the proper JP font pack and reading the excellent article on cover art over on KK's site! |

Looking at Rockwell`s work, he captured the true essence of the American Spirit from his era, his work for the Boy Scout Association is astounding.
Now as for him being a pervert, never proven, just some of his work being over analyzed by someone who has nothing better to do with their time. Perhaps they should "air out" their own closet`s before they decide to go thru someone else`s !!

I've heard so much on the artwork I can't wait to get my copy. I am sure it will live up to the billing. The Rage.. The opening bass lines are so very crisp, felt like I was sitting in front of the bass amp. The vocals are spot on and the guitar tones vintage with an edge.
Delivering the Goods.. another of my personal favs, cranked it up in the car and rocked all the way home, the drivers next to me ,must have thought I was having a spasm attack!!!!
Metal Gods.. What can I say, MM your guitar work is extraordinary, that is not an easy song to pull off!!, But one question, why no cutlery bouncing at the end!!????
Never Satisfied.. killer guitar work and haunting vocal sound, quickly becoming a favorite.
Demonizer... Interesting without the drums, really strong on the vocals and the guitar work stands out even more, but that ok with no drums as the little band in my head fired up and filled in!
Forever Young... I dig this song, very early Iron Maiden type of riff , progressive yet it hits you in the chest. .. Sorry Freeze, I haven`t paid much attention to the vocals yet as the guitar work is distracting me!!.
Now the Artwork... Pure genius, Picaso or Hemingway, the influence is undeniable ( ok Guido?) The different era of guitars really was a good idea for this tribute. |

You know something? That is very kind of you, scorp! Much appreciated, man. Still, I feel so very blessed that an amatuer such as myself can honestly say that my music is heard in six or seven different countries!!!!! We have been on radio in South America, the UK AND Australia! We have friends and fans all over this world. I do not take that kind of recognition lightly! It is a true gift, given to us by the fine membership of this Board. That is just SO precious!
The second wave went out this morning! New countries, more fans. The train keeps a rollin'..........HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review time! Just finished listening to my copy!
This CD is awesome! I especially love Metal Gods, Jawbreaker, Between the Hammer and the Anvil.............ah all of the songs are great! A very fitting tribute to our favourite Metal Gods! The vocals are great to listen to - it's interesting to hear a new vocal spin on Priest classics, and it really does work. The guitars and drumming are fantastic too, some truely great musicians are out there. I looked forward to hearing how the big drumming end to Delivering the Goods would be handled, and it was very good! Overall, I think that Forged Steel is a great tribute to Judas Priest, A+!
Thanks to Deep Freeze, Metallark, Metal Meltdown, and EVERYONE else who was involved! |

Thank you so much for the nice reviews! SO glad to hear that so many are enjoying our music once again... ALL over the world!!!! It kind of takes me back to a different time...many years ago. I am so proud of this album and MM, Metallark and the others. This one had a higher price. We paid it. It's done.
I truly hope that, as you all start listening and commenting you all take a moment to remember what this album is really all about. It is about THIS Board. It is about ALL of us. OUR membership. The friendships we have forged and nuture each and everyday .. The ups and the downs. This album is for all of us, by all of us. We never would have done it without you. Please remember that YOU are as much a part of this album as me and the guys. My sincere thanks to all. |

Thank you for all of that,GD! MUCH appreciated! It is always a great feeling to have a fellow musician take the time to really get to the "nuts and bolts" of our efforts. I am especially proud of the fact that we have NEVER tried to be "Priest Clones". I am NO Halford!! I KNOW that! We stay true to the song but you always know it is us. I agree with you about MOST of these Priest cover bands. The music always seems to suffer!!!... either for a "look" or a guy that can scream! It seems like they find some dude that can hit a high note, buy some leathers and try to build a band around him. The music gets totally lost in that! Judas Rising.. very good, true guitar tones with extra bite
Hot Rockin.. one of my personal favorites, had me from the start of the song, jammed my ass off, obviously, I liked it.
Hell Patrol.. Sharp guitar tones and accurate without being a clone, again, I liked it.
Eat me Alive.. Another personal fav, and again, great guitar tones
Jawbreaker.. The solo with the delays was just so damn good, excellent job MM
Between the Hammer and the Anvil.. Sharp and precise, good emotional delivery with the vocals
Wheels of Fire.. now here we go, the distinct tone between the guitar tracks kicked ass, and the driving bass guitar was just over the top, if only Ian could be pushed up in the mix like that!!!!
This is such a fitting tribute without being an exact duplicate, so many times a band butchers the songs they are trying to pay tribute to, not here, just kick ass songs done by a group of fans. Well Done guys!!
I`ll get back with you in a few days after i`ve listened to the rest of the tracks. |
