Priest is still metal. Just once in awhile u have to change it up. U still have the heavy metal vibe in slow songs. They know what they r doing obviously. They will never change. I was realy impressed on thier new album. Good writing over all. Just keep the faith guys and girls. Like always, You Got Another Thing Coming. |

Also just wanted to add...
If anything Priest are back to the style of metal they had in the 70'. Dramatic heavy music. If you notice there aren't exactly a tone of fast songs on Sad Wings of Destiny. With Nostradamus, they've got all the types of songs that are on there, plus some more different styles, and this time around is just has a big orchestral sound. |

What's your point though? Are you saying that the slower songs aren't metal? Or slow metal songs in general aren't metal?
You've heard of Sabbath right?...
Obviously you've never made the connection with Heavy Metal and Orchestra music either, so please try to haha. Those fuckers back then were as metal as the guys today, we just have distortion nowadays.

Let's put it this way, people.....metal (as a genre) has evolved and shown more dimension-growth than every other genre put together. Case in point....are ANY newer country artists doing anything differently than country artists from 50 years ago? What about R&B? Sure, some artists may infuse other genre influences into the music they predominantly make or create....but when you think about the very diversity bands like Judas Priest, Queensryche, hell...even Black Sabbath had a penchant for creating and generating different moods and melodies in the songs they wrote!
Any musical artist HAS to create music that pleases THEM first before they can feel confident about releasing their work to the public. Priest have done this over and over again....while they know their fans have varied opinions and feelings about what they've released, this is par for the course, and as artists, they understand this. I'm sure there are varied opinions among art critics when it comes to reviewing works by Cezanne, Van Gogh, et, al....if everybody loved what those artists made, they'd have had no reason to keep working. Criticism (even the blunt kind) helps to shape and drive artists to keep creating, even for as much as they do it for themselves first.
Metal is more than a sound, tempo, or how loud a band can play. As progenitors of heavy metal music, Judas Priest have amply shown the world many times over just how diverse and magnanimous the genre can be and to GREAT affect. Hence....HELL yes.....Priest are as metal today as they were 30+ years ago. |

Don't look at me - I'm still trying to figure out what metal is. I grew up banging on the wall because my brother was playing his thrash CDs too loud again. It wasn't until I started hearing classic metal that I realized there was more to it than growl boom boom growl boom boom bang. |

Nostradamus may have alot of slow ones, but it also has songs that will rip your face off.
& im gunna say you probley havent seen priest on this tour, because if you watched them perform Eat Me Alive, Disstant Aggressor, Sinner ect you would not have made this silly little thread. |

Lyrically yes, musically it's not that far removed. They've thrown in some keyboards and some operatic style vocals on some of the tracks but overall it's still metal. What else would you call it? Same sort of stuff the likes of Dream Theater and Manowar have been doing for years. It's not their best album by a long stretch but it's definately metal.
