Then again, I am off to the Virgin Isles on the 1st to meet up with my buddy who owns a scuba company. His pop designed the 76? Corvette Stingray. Trust fund baby, IOW. Don't know if I'll trust him to teach me to dive, but I'll share a tequila with him for sure. 10 day trip. Just for the record , I think you a good vocalist. You bring your interpretation of what you sing with passion and a manly voice. Traits not found in so much of this new crap that is out today ! They seem to just be going thru the motions to speak the song. You on the other hand sell the song and the story you tell with it. I would really love the opportunity to be able to work with you sometime. As I am about ready to fire things up again and start working on getting my chops back up to par. Here`s hoping!!
Merry Christmas my Friend. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Wednesday, December 23, 2009 9:59:00 AM)

JJ, I really appreciate your comments. I do understand what you mean and it is incredibly kind of you to say these things. I am humbled by them. I try never to take myself too seriously when it comes to music because I have never really considered myself all that great. There was a time when I was very apprehensive about my vocal abilities but I pressed on. During my long absence from music, I convinced myself that I was no good at all.
It has only been in the last few years that I have had some GREAT musicians tell me that I am good. Then there are the kind words from friends like you that have helped me to believe in myself to the point that I have decided to "get out there". It is remarkable how I have been received and I am truly humbled. I have noticed that, the more I get into it, the easier it comes and the better it sounds. Still no where near a Halford or even some of the lesser known professionals but I am encouraged by what I hear and by what those around me say. For this, I am sincerely grateful.

That is incredibly kind of you to say, jj. But I really don't consider myself a "Heavy Metal" singer in the strictest sense. I mean, I can do some Metal and I can do a lot of other genres but I am really not a true Metal singer in the mold of a Halford or say, a Dio. I am more of a journeyman vocalist. I am not great but not bad, either. You know?
As for "demand", well that is really a matter of "putting myself out there", as it were. You'd be surprised how many bands are looking for vocalists. I met a guy last night that is a singer in an established band here in Vegas and he is just now getting into the internet music scene! He was VERY excited to ask me questions about it, as he had never tried it and was just starting to do some things with some online people. That amazes me. I mean, technology has made SO MUCH possible for musicians and yet, SO MANY know nothing of it!
I will admit that the feeling is remarkably gratifying, though. I mean, to be asked by so many great artists to be a part of their work is an honor I do not take lightly. I work very hard to deliver my end of the bargain, as it were. Each opportunity is another chance for me to create. I have so much music in my head that it actually goes on an on all the time! I hear it everywhere. Kind of like what you said before about finding music in everyday life. It s there for me.
You hit the nail on the head though, man. Tecchnology has really opened some doors for musicians. Its incredible. It really is.

Most of you are aware of the tremendous success I had with a recent collaboration song over on AcidPlanet. The gentleman I worked with over there is a "heavy weight" on that site, apparently. Anyway, the song (Drive Home) was so well received and stayed at number ONE for SEVEN straight days, that I was contacted by TWO other bands to do similar projects!! I just finished writing and recording a song with a band that is in GERMANY!!!! (That's right, Michael!! HA!!) They are called "Wildering Sheep". They do more "Alternative/Progessive" Rock but they do have some heavier material.
Anyway, as is usually the case, I received a song file and was asked to write a melody and lyrics for it, which I did. I finished the recording yesterday and sent it off to the guy that is doing the production. The song is a bit of a departure for me, as it is not really straight forward "Rock". Has more of an Alternative feel to it. The guy that wrote it sent me an e-mail telling me about how he wrote the song after a break-up with a young lady on their way to an exhibit in a town in Germany called "Welten". Naturally, the song is called Welten and I wrote a sort of "break-up" tune for it.
When it is completed, I will let you all know. It is SO very exciting to work with other musicians, especially those from other countries! I am starting today on the second song. This is with another group based here in the States. It will be a much more "Rock and Roll" song with a heavier sound. All very cool and just SO much fun!!!

Regardles of how you see yourself vocally, I like the fact that your getting out there and bringing the music you like to the people, that shows guts, enthusiasm and passion. Sometimes those qualities go way further than talent. People are noticing, keep it up.

Yes, yes!! You're both correct. Craig, that is the exhibit and Michael, that is the Welten! I cannot tell you how it all fits as I am not familiar with the area but those are the things the guy was telling me. In any event, the song is called "Welten". I will let you all know when it is available. And, THANK YOU!! This kind of conversation will certainly help promote it!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
