Thank goodness Joe! I am so glad to hear that Yuda doesn't have a broken back, like others have said, animals are very resilient, and your kitty is so lucky to have such a loving and caring owner

Very good to hear that Yuda is going to live, Animals do very well at pulling through injury - I'm sure he'll be fighting fit before you know it. It's also good to know that such a gorgeous kitty has a loving and attentive owner who will not give up on him.   Best of luck with his rehabilitation!

It's good news Joe. My sister had a dog hit by a car when he was about a year old and the vet had to put his shoulder back together with brackets and screws and said at best the dog would be able to walk again, but running would not be an option for him. That was 18 years ago. That dog just passed away last year and he ran everyday of his life. There are miracles don't give up.

Thank you all so much for your comforting words, support and genuine well wishes.

I'm sure that you all played a part in the news that I recieved late this morning:

Yuda does not have a broken back (thank God!) He does however have a severe pelvic fracture and his ball joint in his leg is split in two. The vet says that his options are to have a surgery that will cost me around R10 000 (not sure what that converts back to in your currency, I think it's around US$ 1000 I think we're R10 to the dollar now) Anyways, so if he has that surgery, there is no guarantee that he will have any more mobitliy than if he's left to heal naturally. Also, recovery will take a minimum of eight to nine months. If his ball joint is not healed in three months then it will have to be removed.. I'm not sure if this will mean just removing the joint or removing the entire leg. I'm hoping neither will have to go.

If all goes well, I'll be able to bring him home and start nursing him back to health tomorrow. Craig (my husband) wants me to take him to a vet that we both have great respect for as a second opinion. We only stopped seeing her because we moved to another city. She's about an hours drive from where we currently live so I'm thinking of taking Yuda's X-rays to her first for analysis rather than put him through a painful, long car journey.

I'll take what ever advice hers is and then we'll take it from there. I'm just so thankful that his back is not broken. He'll have a permanent limp (according to the vet who's seeing him now) but at least he will be mobile. It's going to be a very long road to recovery but one that I'm commited to.

Thank you all for making this a little more bearable for me. I have had such a rough weekend but I'm only starting to feel some relief now. My baby is going to get through this.

You guys are honestly the best friends that anyone could wish for.
YOU ARE THE BEST!!! and I love you all

xxx

I know we "spoke" earlier yesterday and again I want to say how very sorry I am to hear about little Yuda's accident. I also hope that there was by chance a witness who saw who the bastard was that hit your beloved cat and didn't even stop to assist. I'm an animal lover like a lot of the wonderful people on this noticeboard and I am holding thumbs that all will be ok.

I'm devestated.

My beautiful kitten Yuda, was hit by a car earlier. He's sleeping at the vet tonight. I found him outside our front lawn at about 12am today. He was meowing frantically at me and I realized something was terribly wrong. I rushed him to the vet and he was in severe shock, had blood in his lung and now the vet suspects a broken back. I  really need this kitten to pull through. We've connected on such a deep level. He' is obsessed with me. Chews my fingers at night, sleeps on top of me and is everywhere I go. How could this have happened? The vet still hasn't taken an xray because he says Yuda is still in shock and it is not safe yet. If his back is indeed broken, the vet is going to suggest euthanasia. I just cannot deal with this. I know that they are most probably giving me the worst case scenario but.. I'm just not capable of dealing with this.

Please use whatever beliefs, and positive energy you may have in bringing my baby home safe to recover and lead a full life. I love this little guy.. I can't loose him.

PS: Derek (the Jack Russel) and Yuda are the best of pals. Derek doesn't understand where his mate is right now.

I truly love animals, they are all beautiful in their own ways...Pets are self torture to me in the sense that we always out live our pets and death I am not a big fan of...but we animal lovers cannot help ourselves and we usually are quick to ease the pain of loss of what I consider a member of the family just to start the cycle all over again...it is so traumatic, and I am sorry for your loss spapad!!
[joedraper] Friday, January 30, 2009 2:39:47 AM
She was such a beauty spapad, I know that this was the most difficult decision but having gone through it a few weeks back, I know you did the right thing. As humans we have the power to remove their suffering and we owe it to them for all the years of good love and  companionship that they have given us. To not help them move on and endure endless suffering is just so wrong. Even knowing this, I know you and Flora must be hurting inside beyond description. You were good to Bella and I'm sure her final moments with you were ones of thankfulness and peace.

R.I.P. Bella, you were a very loved baby!

I have lost a lot of pets in my life and everytime it hurts so bad to lose one of them so I don't want to have another one now. I know how you and Flora feels right now 'Cause it was the same for me and my son.

One of them was "Puma" a little black female crossbreed of Dachshound/Collie/German shepherd. Her mom was a crossbreed between Dachshound/Collie and her father was a crossbreed between Dachshound/German shepherd. I have lost her on cancer.

The other one was my cat "Milka", a little black beauty. Named after a famous choclate bar from the switzerland. She was a stranger and she has won every fight against two dogs, her personal enemys. It was just like she wear a neckless with the label: "I shoot the sheriff".

Thank you DC and Adrian,
My baby first started having cluster seizures when she was nine months old. I had her put on the proper drugs for it, but the drug had to keep being increased to deal with them and about every 6 months she would have cluster seizures and need hospitalization. This time, after 36 hours of seizures and her blood panel not showing good results, I had to make the painful decision to end her life. She had not yet reached the age of 3. It is with great sadness in my heart to say that I won many battles with this gennetic disease, but I lost the war. My Child's Birthday was today, needless to say we choose to celebrate it later this week when things like happiness don't seem so foreign. We did everything we could for her, and we just could not hold on to the angel that God wanted back so bad.

And you couldn't have text her this message or told her this when she called you??  Why do you feel the need to go public with your private business??  This is a thread for Pets!!

Now, before you make a Post telling me to mind my own business and/or throw more insults out there, keep in mind that YOU came here with YOUR business on a PUBLIC forum that does NOT care about what you two are/are not doing.  I DON'T want to get into YOUR business, all I am asking is that YOU DON'T make YOUR business MINE/OURS.

Can we PLEASE talk about PRIEST related stuff??

My rat Emily, is going to die very soon. I took her to the vet today because she has a tumor just above her left front leg. She can still walk and eat and is still pretty active. The vet says that it is cancerous and it feels like a blood mass has collected there. So he tells me that one day it will pop and she'll bleed to death. It will be pretty quick and he assures me that she wont suffer. He also tells me that she's not in any pain at the moment and I don't have to put her to sleep but if she gets to a stage where she can't walk or eat then I have to bring her back. She's pretty old for a rat, she's just over 3 so she's had a long life. I just feel so bad.

Guido! What a hansome fellow!

My sister in-law is a bird breeder. Mostly cockatiels and big budgies lol.. They're like regular budgies but a lot bigger. She does the regular ones too. Among some more exotic ones.
She also takes in any abused and abadoned birds. She had a problem with a one legged bird and he got around pretty well for his circumstances.

Fred is a lucky guy to set up home with an all round animal lover like yourself!

While it took a couple of days to get a pic online, I am happy to introduce my new feathered friend.

With the recent and sudden death of my companion of so many years, two empty cages were too much as even Kiko felt the loss. Then it hits me, with a family member coming down from Michigan to spend Thanksgiving, why not try to get another rescue bird from the same place as my longest feathered companion? An email and a couple of phone calls and it was a done deal. My friends, meet Fred! It is scary as he looks so similar to Kiko. He is about a year old and suffers from a couple of problems. Apparently his mother chewed off all but one of his toes on one foot (pictured) and either she or a dumb previous owner cut his flight feathers too short and they'll never grow back. Still, he whistles like crazy and is really funny when he tries to talk. He came with the name "Fred" and I see no reason to change it. (Drumroll please) Voila ici! FRED!
[Jeanine] Monday, December 01, 2008 11:05:30 PM
That is a cool tree.  My cat seems to love rubbing all of his fur all over my blinds.  Maybe I should get him a tree like that.
