Motorhead are definitely that, Vail! The thing about Maiden that separates them from Motorhead (how thinks you can possibly compare these two bands is ridiculous to me), is they are not only more technical, but the songwriting of Maiden...look at it. Their songs are about themes...some of them actually real (Paschendale, Run To The Hills, Aces High, Fear of the Dark to name a few).
I highly recommend getting both the Essential Iron Maiden to get a good idea of what they're about, and either Live After Death or Rock In Rio to gain a measure of understanding of just how enjoyable they are to listen too. Hey Vail, I have to say that I feel pretty much the way you do, but I absolutely LOVE IM's Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, mostly because I love the poem and love to read Coolridge's literature. I've only heard one CD from each band (Powerslave and Overkill), and I love them both (JP is #1, though). BUT... I have to say that between Iron Maiden and Motörhead, Motörhead is "harder". I like both bands--Iron Maiden for their showmenship & Motorhead for their angst driven lyrics --So it would be hard for me to choose either band --I like both of them for different reasons |
