I agree Hellrider. Why is it that Priest and Rob always seem to get screwed no matter how great the album is? There are people that just rip it apart and don't give them the credit they deserve. It seriously pisses me off! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by hellrider 31038 from Friday, October 08, 2010 6:47:53 PM)

THAT'LL teach you to have rugrats!
Just trying to get a good shot of Lachman is really a tough thing as he just headbangs the entire time! Badass axe-man, through and through. Notice who is singing.
sniff...sniff..... Sure, rub it in Guido! I should have timed my babies better! I can only imagine how great that show must have been. I would have gone to see them at the Orbit Room in G.R. too damn it! Nice pic though, THANKS!

I didn't want to mention that I got a Bon Jovi vibe from Thunder and Lightening for fear that Ron H. would KILL me! But immediately when I heard that song, that's what I thought too. I also got a little feeling when listening to certain songs which reminded me of U2, Lynard Skynard and (J.D. is gonna kill me!) Saxon. Hell Razor just really reminds me of how Biff sings and pronunciates his words. I'm not saying that the song sounds anything like Saxon, just the vocal style reminds me of Biff singing.
I'm not surprised by Rob writing songs about sports, he did it before with "One Will" which is about pro basketball. I'm not a NASCAR fan or an MMA fan so, those songs although musically I like them, just don't do it for me. I don't think he wrote those songs in order to be played at sporting events. I think he began writing them because he loved the sport, but then perhaps he did think about them becoming anthems and made them more crowd friendly. I hope they are played, I'd love to see Rob finally get the recognition that he deserves! As for Matador, I think of that song as a story about a man that had given up on life but then his life canged. Do they even play rock n roll/metal music before Bull Fights? I wouldn't know. I don't think anyone would even think twice about that song if he hadn't already included songs about MMA and NASCAR on the album.
I do think that most of the choruses seem to have been written for crowd participation - like all the '80s hair band songs.
The songs I find myself listening to over and over again are: Speed of Sound, Like There's No Tomorrow, Till the Day I Die and The Mower. Those are my favorites. I love how Rob sings on this album and for me, vocals have always been the most important thing in a song since I love to sing. I'm sure that others that play different instruments feel the same about whatever they play.
I do like this album. But I agree, maybe Z. got a little too close to it playing as well as producing it? Pat was part of the writing team on the first two albums, so I'm sure they lost something. Guido, I only WISH I could have seen them back on the Resurrection tour....
Just my take on it.

Heartless seems to have "soul", and is a MUCH better Heart of a Lion. Although the name is almost cheesy.
Heartless, Fire and Ice, Thunder and Lightnight - Sound like I and reading off an 80's record.
Heartless - "walking the streets now baby" ????? Rob can do better than that
Thunder and lightning after the guitar intro listen to it and then listen to Bon Jovi - You give Love a bad name intro.
Anyhow these are the thoughts.
Not saying I dislike the album.

While I also like the album as a whole, I do flip-flop about the lyrics as well. Some, along with the guitars and drums for that matter, are simply too predictable. While I like the guitars / solos in Made of Metal, I find myself counting how many times "Supersonic silver flying machine" is repeated. I'll have a count when I get some free time.
Don't get me wrong, I love the album as a whole (I can really get into most songs, even "I Know We Stand a Chance" has a catchy little riff) but can't help but wonder if the absence of Patrick Lachman had an effect here. Roy Z is certainly no match on guitar and, when I compare earlier Halford shows both by memory and DVD/CD, it is even more noticeable. For those who saw the Resurrection tour, I am sure that you'll agree: Lachman was just a metal monster on stage. (Quoting Message by tasnam1 from Thursday, October 07, 2010 8:37:20 PM)

After listening to the album for another two days some fine tuning thoughts:
I think the album musically is GREAT. But, lyrically, it is just off; i can't explain it. I love Rob, he is the best on this planet. It just seems his song writing lost creativity a little.
Take Made of Metal. GREAT music in the background. Fair lyrics.
Matador, GREAT music and style. Lyrics are "just okay".
Made of Metal, GREAT musically. Lyrics I go back and forth on. (I feel like I am watch Disney's CARS!!!!)
Ect, ect, ect.
I really like Speed of Sound and the track after it Like there's no tomorrow (although "like diamonds in the sky" is a little cheesy), Hell Razor is just plain COOL.
Of course Mower.
I seem to ALWAYS Skip over Fire & Ice and Thunder and Lightning - I believe these were filler tracks for him.
Undisputed is good musically, but the fact it is about a boxer, just seems to rub me the wrong way. Almost like he was trying to hard to fit a song around an industry.
Undisputed
Made of Metal
Matador
These songs just "seem" like he was trying to hard to fit the "events" around these lyrics.
If they become great anthems. I will be the first to admit it worked.

First of all I will preface my comments with the fact that I am a Halford/Fight and of course Priest fan through and through - so my comments are not negative, just analytical in nature.
The Mower song itself is worth the whole album - exceptional in everyway.
I like Speed of sound.
Hell Razor sounds like Stained Class/Sad wind era, which is cool - nice work.
Heartless is like a 2010 remake of 1986 Heart of a Lion, but much better - (now I can stop listening to HOAL (which was tough) and replace it with Heartless)
Made on Metal and Matador - I my opinion - are just ok tracks musically. My belief, challenge me if you want, is that Rob is trying to create an anthem style song to be play at Nascar and Bullfighting arenas. He is a reasonalby smart marketing guy from a 60 yeear old metal bands point of view. Think Gary Glitter (pedophile), and other rock anthems at sports events. The become timeless and of course push the popularity of the creator of the songs, long after the band is even alive.
As far as the lyrics, overall yes they seem a little superficial/simple in nature, I agree. For what ever reason that would be my most critical comment.
Overall I like the album so far and will listen to it even more now. I will like this album more over time. Now I give it a B+ maybe even soon an A- .
But again Mower is worth the album. I would pay $15.00 for that one song. And I mean that. I feel it is that good; even a challenger for Painkiller!
Thoughts?

As far as the lyrics, overall yes they seem a little superficial/simple in nature, I agree. For what ever reason that would be my most critical comment.
Overall I like the album so far and will listen to it even more now. I will like this album more over time. Now I give it a B+ maybe even soon an A- .
But again Mower is worth the album. I would pay $15.00 for that one song. And I mean that. I feel it is that good; even a challenger for Painkiller!

Maybe if he put out a studio album that was more worthy than 'Made Of Metal" he might get a stronger following. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by hellrider 31038 from Friday, October 08, 2010 2:49:49 PM)

Undisputed

Actually, that's what I've been wondering for a while. What happened to Patrick? Did he just leave? Were there tensions in the band? What's up? [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Thursday, October 07, 2010 8:53:13 PM)

You ask me "what is an extreme real metalhead"? You should know why your not worthy for an answer from somebody like myself who has been into this music since 1982..... "please". I've been reading your Mushroomhead and Slipknot posts ever since you joined here, have I ever said anything before about it? No,so big fucking deal if I lashed out and said they "suck" ......jimmy james hates Saxon,so does Brian...do I give a shit? No,go ahead and post some crappy reviews in the Saxon thread and see if I give a rats fuck. Because your here I can't "criticize" anything? Ha! Its all good dude,I didn't mean to rock your entire fucking world,I was just saying that I think Mushroomhead and Slipknot "sucks". Fuck those shit bands lol! Mushroomhead better than Saxon? Thanks for the laughs hahaha!

At least if you are going to bash something, post the studio version of a track Brian....here is Four Crossed Wands from the "Tara" studio album(2001).....this shit is totally awsome for extreme metal,if Budred and Brian and the entire forum utterly thinks this is shear "crap" than I accept that,no problem but to me this kicks the living shit out of crap bands like Mushroomhead and Slipknot.....BY FAR....remember,its just an opinion.... Mushroomhead came out before Slipknot. Most of the guys in MRH were in other bands at the time of forming MRH.
It was a side project so they wore masks on stage so people would not recognize them from the other bands. MRH
became permanent and because of the crowd response to it, the masks became permanent also. Then came Slipknot so
if anyone copied anyone it would have to be Slipknot copied MRH. Their music is actually a bit different so there is no real need
to compare them that way. If you take the time to listen to their music and get familiar with it and then see them live you
would see that they are quite good. They are heavy as f*ck, they slow it down, some of their stuff is like heavy industrial stuff.
They change it up quite a bit, definitely not one dimensional. Then the theatrics of the live show coupled with the music
make them an enjoyable concert experience.(especially if you like it heavy). Lastly, right now at this moment in time, yes I
may be higher on MRH than I am on Halford but Rob is still the king. Priest and Rob were a part of my life for way too long and
no band will (EVER) replace them as my favorites.[Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Brian_Evans from Wednesday, October 06, 2010 7:20:02 AM)

I like your post and agree with most of it. The point that stands out is the Heart of a Lion comparison.
I thought the exact same thing. My problem is that over half of the CD has tracks like that. I do not like
that song and that is why I'm struggling with this album. 100 percent agree with Mower comment. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by tasnam1 from Wednesday, October 06, 2010 4:28:20 AM)

I don't post much, but here is my take on H4.
Thoughts?

Bud! Glad to hear I'm not the only one really liking Till the Day I Die! I love the lyrics and message of 25 Years, but something about how he sings the chorus bugs me. I don't hear Silent Screams in it at all, I just don't like how he sings the line 25 years and I can't seem to get past it. But The Mower and Speed of Sound are two very kick ass songs and I can't wait to hear them live And I have no problem with your opinion at all and I agree that everyone needs to make up their own mind. I'm just getting sick of all the negativity. This kind of review, good or bad, I like because it explains why you do or don't like something.
And yeah, fork over the cash and support THE METAL GOD!! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Budred from Tuesday, October 05, 2010 5:56:25 AM)

Hi Soccer Star! I agree, I loved Resurrection! I fell in love with Rob all over again with that album. Listen to Made of Metal and form you own opinions. But my advice is CRANK IT! The first couple times I listened to it, I really got that '80s hair band feel..... I think it's because Rob's voice is about 3 times louder than the music or it's over-produced or something. When I CRANKED it up, I realized that it isn't as '80s as I first thought. It's got a lot of drums and guitar work that I didn't hear the first couple times around because they were too much in the background either that or the damn subwoofer cut out again and I didn't know it! I just added "Like There's No Tomorrow" to my running mix. I love the message of that song - make the victory your goal and I really loving singing it. Hope you like at least some of the album. Let us know. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by soccer star from Monday, October 04, 2010 11:42:04 AM)

down. Before I go any further I would like to stress that this is my opinion and it only matters to me.

I've just listened to the album again all the way through and I must say: "What a disappointment". 14 tracks on this album and I like "none of them". The only part of any of this that I do like is the vocals on the one song "Hell Razor" as it does sound Priest-like but the chorus absolutely ruins this song, blah this album "sucks".
Songs like 'Fire And Ice" reek of a rip-off from power metal bands like Hammerfall and Blind Guardian whom I hate anyways. I really don't like any of these songs at all,at least Resurrection had 2 that were ok: "Resurrection" and "The One You Love To Hate" as I hate the rest of that album,Crucible I liked almost all of it, all of the Winter Songs album totally blows and now this lame album,I don't see how anybody can get into this record, but whatever floats yer boats I guess.
Boy,Priest better come up with better material than this tripe or it will be a sad day listening to the new Priest album. A totally huge "SIGH".
[Budred] Sunday, October 03, 2010 5:40:57 PM
I thought about that after I wrote it but it was too late to delete it. I really am struggling to get into this album though.
I only like 4 or 5 songs so far and I hate some of the song subjects. I try to get into 25 years, I dig a cool ballad now and then but
this sounds like a ripoff of Silent Screams. I like Til' The Day I Die, and, Painkiller is the last thing on my mind when I think of
new Halford or Priest. I want Heavy Metal from those guys and that can involve many different styles of songs. The Mower
is my favorite song because of it's heaviness but I don't want an entire album of that. My problem with this album is too many
songs like ...Fire And Ice
...We Own The Night
...Heartless
I love Judas Priest and I love Rob Halford so I hate ripping them and I definitely am not trying to antagonize anyone. (Shit) was
a little much and I do apologize for that one. Peace.[Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS from Saturday, October 02, 2010 7:46:53 PM)

I'm really getting into Till the Day I Die. Love the Southern Rock style turned metal and I love the lyrics in it too. But I've always had a wide range of musical taste and that's why I LOVE Priest. If I wanted to hear the same thing over and over again, well, I wouldn't be here! For those who only want Painkiller, this is not the album for you. I love Rob's voice and he sounds great. He doesn't have to be constantly screaming for me to like a song either. I was hoping it would be a heavier album but I like it. And CONGRATS to Rob on 25 years of sobriety in January!!!

So far, I'm digging it! I enjoy all the songs up to Hell Razor (my all-time favorite so far), with Matador and Twenty-Five Years being the exceptions after it. The sports ones I can handle. Don't like Boxing, NASCAR, nor Bullfighting, but still. The music and that general theme of competition leaves me asking for more. 'Til the Day I Die is another good one. Love that bluesy beginning.
Thunder and Lightning sounds (to me) like a filler track. I Know We Stand a Chance is okay (not a favorite). And as much as I like The Mower, it seems out of place in this album.
Rob's singing is phenominal. He sounds as though he's singing at a comfortable range and isn't exerting himself too much. Others might call that a lack of effort, but in this case I disagree. He sounds great!
Overall, I give it an 8/10. Not as great as Crucible nor Resurrection, but enjoyable, nonetheless.

That's why I don't like Thunder and Lightning. It feels like a re-hash of the same ideas used in Fire and Ice. I haven't got my copy yet, but what I have listened to I like. Yeah the nascar and boxing type lyrics are cheesy, and my least favourite part so far, but also on the album are very personal songs like Twenty-Five Years. And the vocals on Hell Razor are amazing, we haven't heard Rob sing like that in a long time! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Budred from Saturday, October 02, 2010 3:20:29 PM)
