Here is a picture I did a few years back from an old photocopy. I later found the original picture and the closed hand is wrong. The whole drawing is not completed: the metal studs and the chain are hard to make.

I need help. I am getting my FIRST tattoo next week. I need the musical NOTES to Priest's "Last Rose of Summer". Does anyone know where I can find the sheet music? I have looked everywhere. Since that song is a deeper cut, it has been difficult locating it. Thanks! Doll |

Ya know, Venus De Milo is actually Greek. She is Aphrodite. Her arms at one time where atached and she would have held and apple in one hand.
Hence "Milo" meaning apple in Greek. She would have been an insignificant sculpture amogst a sea of sculptures of Aphrodite had she not, through accident or willful distuction, lost her arms. That is what has made her famous, and gives her the undeniable beauty of "mystery" she now has.

I am off to the library myself! (damn....closed...to do list for tomorrow). | | spapad wrote: | | Michaelangelo! Go to the library and check out a book on Michaelangelo's sketches. True he did draw women's breast's as if they were cannonballs on their chest but to be honest he probably used young men in studio as no lady of the day would have disrobed for such a thing as a sketch. But look at his sketches, he was a master at sketching. Most of his works probably took no longer than 15 minutes when he was sketching, as is proper. It will amaze you how much volume and emotion he could evoke in such a short time.
Aggressive crosshatching, sometimes only lines to delinate shade and texture. A Must see for any aspiring aritist. | | Becks wrote: | | Ooooh thanks for the tips, I know I need to work on the eyes a bit more LOL! I'm always open to ideas on how to improve | | spapad wrote: | | Your very good with face porportions. My only critism would be to study the eye more closely and don't forget to represent it as round with lid area around it and don't forget the lighter area that will appear opposite from your hightlight on your eye. Work on those and you will see you pictures take on a whole new life. Just my opinion, and I did go to art school for quiet a while (3 years) where I learned that although I could do what they asked, I was not having fun anymore. | | Becks wrote: | | Ahhh that's cool that she is so in to it, she will learn how to do all those techniques eventually. Simple stuff like shading, and learning the proper way to do it, that's technical not god sent, easy stuff to learn. She get's mad because I'll complete my project before her and mine looks better than her's, but It should! She's a tween, too frustrated too easy. | | Becks wrote: | | Haha thats cool! She allows me creative input and to show her how to do things but she holds me back from the rest! Good for her! | | Becks wrote: | | Cheers Spa yeah I want to see some artwork of yours! Ah, I suppose I'd have to take your word on it. Thinking twice, I AM in the heart of the "Bible belt" after all. Such a book would be deemed pornography.

Michaelangelo!

Your very good with face porportions.

To be certain, she's a fair artist herself, she will take some instruction from me on how to do things, but does not want me as her teacher. She says she does until we sit down to do some work. Simple stuff like shading, and learning the proper way to do it, that's technical not god sent, easy stuff to learn. She get's mad because I'll complete my project before her and mine looks better than her's, but It should! She's a tween, too frustrated too easy.

Thanks Kiamat, I was hoping you could understand I don't say what I did to dishearten you only to help you.
When you want to begin with faces. Start by learning the proper way to do eyes. the iris will always have a light source highlight on both eyes from the same direction of the light source, under the highlight should always be dark as oppossed to the opposite side of the iris (where the light lands) should always be the lightest part of the iris. Then blend slowly darker back toward the area of darkness beneath the highlight. use outward strokes from the pupil into the eye to show the texture of the iris. The eyes are the window to the soul, they must be right, or the face will never look right. Hope you don't think I'm being a pain but I like to impart knowledge to someone who truely wants to learn. Just do what I used to do, get a pencil and just draw one eye with the surrounding brow area, and just doodle alot. Learn the eye is round and can not be represented as a canoe shape. the inside of the lid of the eye also can be seen. The iris should always fill the eye and not just look like two little disks in the eye, then a person looks suprised. I'll tell you, go back to my portrait of KK a few pages back and that was when I first "got it" on how to draw faces. It might help you. I can't wait to see what else you draw. I love art. And I love to talk about art as well. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by kiamat from Saturday, July 18, 2009 10:12:27 AM) | | kiamat wrote: | | Thanks Spapad- no I don't mind comments at all! I took art for many years at school but I don't really feel I learnt much about drawing, certainly not drawing people. (The teachers tended to ignore me as long as I kept to deadlines, or in one case, held me up as an example of how not to draw.) Most of what I know is either from books or what I've found out myself in drawing in the years since I dropped art as a subject- its much more enjoyable as a hobby! I've actually copied and saved your comments for future reference, so thankyou. | | spapad wrote: | | They are really not bad Kiamat. You need to work on shading. Make it more supple to the eye. The big thing is to remember No one in life has a magic black line drawn around their body. Shade the background to avoid using heavy lines on your figure. As for the face, that is something that takes time and study. Get the eyes right, first. Shading is much more supple on the face and just like people don't have lines drawn around them neither do lips, always work from the inside out and avoid drawing a line on the outer boudaries of the lips. Good Luck, you are doing well. You have the makings of a good artist if you study just a little more. I hope you don't find my comments abrasive as I only tell you these things to help you, forgive me if you feel I overstepped my boundaries.
I do like what you have done, and I see much possibility to do much more! | | kiamat wrote: | | I've decided that I find Rob Halford seriously hard to draw, especially when he's bald, and as this picture show, I'm not much good at drawing more than suggestions of facial features- nothing like some of the incredible stuff on here.

I also decided to post the old picture, the one I said I wasn't happy with. Looking back its not so bad.

Thanks Spapad- no I don't mind comments at all!
