Got to admit when i saw Priest live in Vancouver last year and Halford came out wrapped in tin foil i cracked up. I thought I hope he's not going to wear that for the whole show.

You think THAT'S outstanding??

Doesn't even sound like PRIEST...

And the chorus " RAPID FIRE, BETWEEN THE EYES" sounds ridiculous..

Owens is good and has heavy range but doesn't sound like ROB except for the screams which are sung with down tuning..

Really, no disrespect to Mad Max but is this even a real question???????????
Rob is a God!!!!
I think they are one of the first Heavy metal bands to sound live as they did on their albums, Unleashed in the East.

Outstanding vocal performance by Tim Ripper Owens - "Diamonds and Rust"

[Patrick Raniery] Wednesday, June 17, 2009 6:39:02 PM

Well my dear friends. This question it's very bored to our friend and great vocalist Tim Ripper Owens, first he has contributed so much to the Priest with all their vocal performance, but Halford is HARDCORE, he is the essence of the band and of the Heavy Metal too maybe without him Judas Priest never taked the world and we're not here talking about who's the best, second with all respect Ripper Owens is a merelly copy of Halford, he must find his way, Halford created a unique and irreverent style he is The Metal God. And finally few are the vocalists nowadays able to be in a stage over the 50 years old and still sing loud as halford does yet. He is the great one.

Bye dear friends,

Think Heavy Metal,

Think Judas Priest.

[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, June 17, 2009 7:57:22 AM
Yes. It is. I have always said that you can really hear the passion in a good vocalist. It is SO important. There are days when I do not bother to work on my music because I do not feel inspiration. It simply must be there. It leads to the passion and everyone knows when the passion is not there!!

From what I understand, Wahlberg actually did his own singing in that movie. Say what you will but I think he did a fine job!

Spend my time, lost in space. Am I dead?
Oh let the river flow through my calloused hands
And take me from my own, the eyes of the damned

It tears my flesh from bone!
How we turn the dream to stone
And we All Die Young........

Well, THAT I don't know. I have never toured with a world-famous act. I would assume there are a lot of accuracies but I would also assume there is a lot of "creative license" taken in it as well!!!!!!!!!!!
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Tuesday, June 16, 2009 5:15:21 PM
I liked the movie when i first saw it, i'll admit, but i was like 13, and i had never heard of Priest. After i got into Priest i heard the movie was based on them, i watched it again and liked it alot less. My old band wanted to do a cover of a steel dragon song, living the life i think it was.Could find a decent version to download. Thats one thing I'm not trying to say by all of this though. I like Tim Owens, he's a very very talented dude, his work with Iced Earth is good, and his stuff with Priest was pretty good too, its just ya, his high vocals rub me the wrong way, i can't get past them, The Metal God is the only one who can sing the higher stuff to my ears. I'm still trying in vain to get past some harder vocals. I really like Arch enemy's lead singer voice now(took me awhile), she rules. But i still can't get past the dude who sings in Inflames. Both bands have insane guitar players, and kick ass, but the harder vocals usaully rub me the wrong way also.

Another peice of Owens stuff i really liked( except the very begining note) His cover of Mr. Crowley, that was a really cool cover.

Funny but I actually LOVE that movie (Rockstar). I do not think Rob took it personally. I mean, it IS Hollywoood, man! I have a copy of the movie here. It's great. As far as Owens, I like his voice in the Iced Earth stuff. In fact , we are talking about doing a song or two of his IF I can get his chops down. He is a very talented guy and I like his voice in the lower-mid register. I can't do the high screams anyway!! His OR Rob's!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Tuesday, June 16, 2009 4:55:44 PM
IC, i thought he came out after leaving Priest, that movie pissed me off with the way they made Halfrod seem like a sissy. I didnt know that he wasnt allowed to make other music because of his contract though, thanks for the info. I bet Owens little worshipper sure loved that movie though. I always saw Halford leaving the band though, not the other way around.

How about the song off of Sad wings of Destiny? you know the song that Halford invented...... and used his vocal ability to design the way the song would be sung? I have heard enough of Owens singing to last a life time man, and i can't get over the one fact of his voice, to shrill and ear pericing. Halford is still the only singer in my opinion who can pull off the high octaves without it sounding shrill and annoying. Owens voice is very shrill and very annoying when he goes that high. I'm sorry i know you have a pretty big hard on for the guy, you've made that clear for pretty much the entire website, while at the same time coming off as almost a homophobe for ripping on Halford so much. If you honestly got it that bad for Tim owens maybe you should hit up the Tim Owens Noticeboard. oh wait is there even one of those?? well i take it from your name your really only care about one persons opinion.

The way I understand it is that Rob wanted to make music outside of Priest.  His contract would not allow him to do this, so he had to quit Priest in order to do different things.  His sexual orientation wasn't made public 'til a few years later.  The way he was portrayed in the movie is one of the reasons why Priest didn't want to be associated with the movie, as that is not how it came down (among other things).

Check out Ripper in Victum of Changes on Live in London, he holds that not at the end way longer than Halford ever did. If anyone can find a version where Halford holds that high note that long I would really like to hear it. Good luck!
[british.steel] Monday, June 15, 2009 9:36:01 PM
i thought he came out a while b4 he left priest. w/e. gay or not, Halford is amazing. his sexuality actually was the reason for him wearing leather, tht brought the "look" to metal, thank halford for tht!!
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Monday, June 15, 2009 8:40:32 PM
You know i don't really know either, i can just speculate it proably was in anger. I;m not entirely sure if its what the movie potrayed as being over his coming out. I was under the assumption he came out after leaving Judas Priest, but again im just guessing i don't really know. I wonder if anyone else may know?

[british.steel] Monday, June 15, 2009 8:28:24 PM

[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Monday, June 15, 2009 7:51:59 PM
really? thats werid i heard how that inspired the movie rockstar though. Pissed me off how they switched it around so the band kicked out the lead singer. BS.
[british.steel] Monday, June 15, 2009 7:49:56 PM
Yeah, wasnt Tim Owens found from a tribute band to judas priest? and tht inspired tht movie rock star or sumthin, then the same thing happend with journey with tht chinese guy?
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Monday, June 15, 2009 6:45:04 PM
The fact is though that Owens is a copy. He may not be so much now, but thats how he started. Though he doesnt sound exactly like Halford thats what he was aiming for. Its funny how some people (not very many, but a few) claim that Owens is better than Rob is, and i just laugh my ass off. Take any track that Tim covered of the old Priest with Halford singing. Look for the tracks where Rob stretches out the last line in the song, time how long it goes for. Compare it to the tracks Owens sings on. All the ones ive found Halford goes longer and stronger. I'm sorry, I like Tim owens, he's very talented but Rob Halford will always kick his ass. To much talent for a mortal, that why he is a god!

[spapad] Saturday, June 13, 2009 9:31:20 PM
He's the closest thing to Rob in his younger years. NO ONE can replace Rob, but Ripper did do a good job.  I Don't think singing Priest is Ripper's best forte but he did do a decent job. Now he's free to be himself. Great for him.

I'm sorry, but i disagree. Ripper didn't or doesn't sound like Halford when he was younger. Halfords scream( when he was younger) was alot more higher and alot more musical. He could switch it up and make it completly jive with the music. Owens's scream always has that same shrill sound to it. I'm not trying to rip on Tim, he is a very talented guy, but Rob was and is untouchable. Halfords scream could go one forever and you were amazed, Owens i honestly was never that impressed with his screams, i wanted to cover my ears.

This is all a matter of age, and class. Ripper sounds like Rob when he was younger, but Ripper never had the class Rob had. Cussing on Stage, Rob never did that, on a rare occassion to something the crowd was doing, but not his way of doing things.
Rob, at his age, outsings and outclasses Ripper.
I wish Tim all the luck in the world on his own endevers. I know he will do very well for himself.

Greece's Rockpages.gr recently conducted an interview with TIM RIPPER OWENS
during his stay in Athens, Greece for a concert with HAIL!.

The following is an excerpt:

Q: I know that you are a big Priest fan... if you had the opportunity to change
something in the two records that you did with them, would you do anything?
Maybe, something regarding the compositions?

A: "First of all, I love both records. Looking back now, I see how different
they are, but I still like them. I write in a complete different way... I’d
probably prefer more the classic, old-Priest type of material... like the way I
write in my albums... British Steel kind of stuff... for example 'Scream
Machine' (BEYOND FEAR) was like a Priest song. The title track of Play My Game
was originally written for Judas Priest... also, the song 'Save Me' (Beyond
Fear) was also considered for Judas Priest. But, I totally understand their
decision... Priest has treated me better than any band that I’ve been with."

Q: Did you like Nostradamus?

A: "Ahh... I think it’s a good record. It’s not the kind of record I would
have put out, but it’s a good record... I prefer the songs to be more... not
so laid back. But, Judas Priest always released different records, they changed
with every album."

Leslie Lopresto, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Chris D,
Dave Jockers, Rob Halford, Dave Rossow

...they look friendly enough...
[british.steel] Saturday, May 30, 2009 8:40:54 AM
Ripper was an amazing vocalist and frontman and had a helluvalotta talent, ive seen him once in concert, but Halford simply has more range and more charisma, and JP had way more great songs with Halford than Ripper, altho riper had some great songs....my question is who is better in Iron Maiden....
Paul Di'anno....
Bruce Dickinson...
or Blaze Bayley.

I heard  "Chainbreaker"...and ur  right in some point for Ralf.. he could have been the replacement of Mr.Rob...He has enough stance , vocal style and charisma to have done the job... comparing  him to Tim...who didnt had the style of vocal... Why didnt he been recruite in J/P?...

[Necroticist] Friday, May 08, 2009 7:54:31 PM
Omg yes....is equal to Rob in vocal range...maybe a little extra...try the first album - 'Chainbreaker' is like the best JP track they never did - would be easy to mistake it for earlier JP  THAT good!

I  agree that no one can replace Mr.Rob, but whos Ralf (Primal Fear)?
Is He that good? I know that Tim was a mistake they made...

Here we go again - said for years the only replacement for Rob (like there could BE one) would have been Ralf from Primal Fear....they chose Tim instead and i consider it the biggest mistake in rock history...
