Rock on bud everybodys thoughts are different!, I see 2 completly different styles thats why we are human!@ [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by ronhart from Wednesday, July 23, 2008 5:09:00 AM) | | ronhart wrote: | | Troubleshooter/II...I guess what I was trying to say is this, Priest has a rep for not putting out back to back albums that are similar to each other (which is one of my favorite attributes about the band). DOTF
was like SFV in a lot of ways, so I didn't see that album as another "step up", more like treading water.
If DOTF would have been released before SFV, then my feelings would be the opposite. They both kick ass in their own right, but DOTF was no "leap of faith".
Rock on Troubleshooter/II!!! |

The two albums are very similar in style in my opinion. Hard to choose between the two. I'd say "Defenders" is the harder one, with just one track that could be considered a metal ballad ("Night Comes Down"), while "Screaming" has at least two ("Fever" and "(Take These) Chains", maybe "Pain and Pleasure," too). But I think Priest found a sound or style in "Screaming" and just built upon it in "Defenders." The diplomatic answer for me is to pick "Screaming for Vengeance," because without it there wouldn't have been an album quite like "Defenders of the Faith."
Can't wait until August. I'll be seeing Priest in Kansas City August 1st, then driving up to St. Paul the next night for another bout of Priest! |

Jawbreaker is my fave track from DOTF and Bloodstone from SFG, though many quality tracks from both albums. |

Screamn' blows Defenders away. I enjoyed Defender's 'cause it was Priest, but SFV was solid top to bottom, a serious (?) album, unlike the "comic book" writing on Defender's. Don't get me wrong, I really like the album, Love Bites, Eat Me Alive and The Sentinel are among my favorites, but if I was on a deserted island and could only choose 1, it'd be Screamn' For Vengence. |
