I like your opinion here Budred, that makes a lot of sense. You can't expect every generation of metalheads to like the same thing. Thats just being closed minded. I think good heavy metal will always be around even without the older classic bands. I'm sure new bands will come out with a more classic sound but will never be quite as good as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. If they were even 50% as good as Maiden or Priest they would be worth listening to. I like some of the new bands although they are not as good as Priest and Maiden but still enjoy their music. I like J.D. so I hope he doesn't take this as a shot at him. If today's bands tried to copy
or maintain that British style of music we would probably be here complaining about how
there is no originality anymore. I think a lot of (us) older fans are resistant to change and
fail to give today's music a chance because of it. Do you remember when we were young
and the older folks were asking "WTF are you listening to?" "All they do is scream and (twang)
on those damn guitars." All the while you were wryly grinning saying to yourself "You don't
have a clue." Well the tides have changed and now were the ones asking "WTF are you listening to?"
I've always tried to not get stuck in a rut like that. I enjoy alot of today's bands. I could do without
most of the (growl) thing but no-one is going to like everything. I love bands like Disturbed, Godsmack,Slipknot, System... and others. I think as long as we have angry youth we'll have heavy music albeit
different than what were used to. I'm glad music is ever evolving. This is just my opinion. It only
matters to me. I'm not trying to change anyone, I'm just trying to provoke thought. Peace!

No it won't survive at all when Judas Priest and every other heavy metal band retire. Running Wild already retired after starting in 1984 with thier first album,I'm using this track as an example of traditional heavy metal's sound.Bands of today don't follow the same patterns of bitish heavy metal in the traditional way,they don't sound traditional,they don't look traditional and they don't have the same passion of traditional british heavy metal as bands like Priest and Saxon.
There aren't enough studs,spikes,leather ect...to have the image wich pushes the music forwards to actually write a kick ass heavy metal album. Bands like current Iced Earth...thier first 2 studio LP's reaked of traditional british styled heavy metal in the traditional way,now they sound so far progressive they have lost thier way into something over-done,way to experimental and progressive so much to the point of now they just don't sound like real heavy metal anymore.
There are no upcoming bands out there who are taking traditional british heavy metal serious enough to grab the torch of heavy metal from the masters to carry on,they are too wrapped up in a non-heavy metal image & sound to do so. Bands that have passion for old-school heavy metal should focus on thier influences of Judas Priest,old 80's Iron Maiden and Saxon to put into thier style along with the image of heavy metal,studs,spikes,chains,leather,ect...and MOST IMPORTANT...write killer songs to go along with it or it will never work just with the image.
Even if every band did this,heavy metal will still die down without Priest & Saxon around anymore but it would sure as hell help the struggling heavy metal scene thats for sure. These bands you listed , came along at a time when what they brought us was original. To be great , means to be original. Yes, there are some great bands out there now, but they never achieve the greatness we have allready ( and still do) witness.

I was thinking about the future of heavy metal.....
In ten years time (or there about) there will be no Priest,Maiden,AC/DC,Sabbath(ozzy & Dio),Metallica,Kiss,Motley Crue,Alice Cooper etc
Can metal survive without these bands being around?? i am not sure..these are the big players in metal and they headline most of our fests around the world.
I know there are some good bands around today but for me they just don't have what the older bands have and some of the heavier bands who have done well over the last decade are too heavy
for a lot of people to get into.
