metal can evolve.  it will not stay the same for sure, but if it evolves and grows then thats a start.  there will always be people who want traditional, but thats another word for old.  its not bad to have new sound.  dont know if I want trivium and avenged to be leading the change, but... what to do.

this is the same in pop, rock, even country.  mind you, they all suck to me, but they always did.

yes metal is dying. Look at how many great metal artist are no longer with us, ronnie James dio, dimebag darrell, cliff burton, and on top of it all priest calling it quits! There cannot be heavy metal without the metal gods! Bands such as trivium and avenged sevenfold can go to hell cause they will never be as great and godly as priest or pantera or any other great metal band was. There are a few young band that I feel will keep carrying the torch for metal: dekapitator (2007 album storm before the calm feels like it should have been released in 1987) black tide (great young metal band) But overall metal is going downhill fast. There will never in the history of metal be a band that achieved the greatness/godlyness that a band like priest or megadeth achieved.

Is metal dying? I think so!!
That's the evolution - in music style, the musicians and bands,
the music industry and, of course, the customers!!
It's not a problem because of the downloads.
A lot of peoples/fans have lost their trust and interest in a lot of bands
like Metallica, Iron Maiden and now in Priest too, for an example.
Yep, that's goes to the members of Priest and their management:
It's not the right time to kidding and faking the peoples out there.
All your fucking statements are worthless until you start to tell us all
the truth!! Ya, we have deserve it!! Don't forget it:
You need us the fans to get a status like you have!!
It's very easy to game it away but it's very hard to get it back!!
Think about it!!

Absolutely a given as a fan as far as I'm concerned too Becks! I think it's very important to support the bands that you love because if you don't, they may not be around long. Besides, you can't get an illegal download autographed now can you??? Although I heard Ripper once say that someone gave him a downloaded CD to sign. Jesus, now that takes some balls doesn't it? My sons think it's really cool that we have gotten some of our old LPs that we had as kids autographed and they want to be able to do the same thing. Parents set the biggest examples for their kids and ours see us buying CDs all the time, not stealing it. When we talk about it, they both think it's really wrong and even say "How does the band make any money then?"

I still can't believe how unbelievably cool Drowning Pool was! 11 years old and my son got on their tour bus!!! I've NEVER been on a tour bus and I don't think I ever will be. I was at home with our youngest son. Here's a picture of them

Hey now! Must the younger generation be blamed for everything?

Don't forget, adults want everything for free too, and music is no exception. There are quite a few guilty parties here who admit to illegaly downloading music for free.

That's awesome HRMG! I think that buying the CDs to support your favourite bands is so so important. I ALWAYS buy my CDs, to me it's a given as a fan.

That goes straight to the heart of things HRMG. I always buy my music. The new generation coming up wants it all for free.  Not all of them, but most, and they can get their hands on just about anything.

The new bands coming up have to starve to death, charge more for their shows in hopes to recoop some money.

Like I told my daughter, I know the cost of living has gone up and all but concerts used to be cheep to attend. Festival seating, you pick the view you want. Good times.

Now all concerts are expensive! The mechandise is not cheep either. All this heavy increase is due largely to the fact bands don't make money off records anymore, only tours.

At the same time, I have to place some blame with the record companies. When they were the only game in town they really raised the prices in the 80's, then 90's with the CD going mass market, and never stopped until their own technology turned around and bit them in the ass. Now the whole industry is at the mercy of a whole generation of kids who don't want to pay for music.

I agree Hellrider! My almost 12 year old asked for various metal CD's for Christmas and then he used his Christmas money to buy more! When his dad took him to see Drowning Pool, they did the meet and greet with them and my son got to go on their tour bus with them! He was in heaven and just took everything in. When Mark pulled out all their CD's for them to sign, he saw the reaction of the band and how much they appreciated the fact that we BOUGHT all their stuff. The ENTIRE band signed every single CD booklet AND the CD itself. He wants the CD's to look at the art and lyrics. He even gave his little brother the Painkiller CD for Christmas! So MY little metalheads will be keeping the metal faith alive and BUYING the music that they love

With Priest the Scorpions and maybe Iron Maiden ready to call it a day,is this another nail in the coffin for Trad Metal? who will be next to bow out of the world of  Heavy Metal ... Sabbath ? Ozzy, AC/DC ? Metallica ?
all these bands have seen better days and none can top anything that they have done in the past so....are we soon to see to end of 'metal' as we know it??
This along with the Death of the 'Great' Ronnie James Dio leave's me worried for the future of  our beloved style of music....

Someone prove me wrong, please!!
