Pissing me off? Office people. I know there's quite a few here, but I'm speaking of those where I work. I do my job damn fine, I don't need anyone telling me how to do my job, the process that I've worked out myself, and perfected. In essence, me coming up with the process, and him repeating it back later on as if he's come up with a great idea that he's got to tell the idiot underling... Also, from yesterday-my idiot boss (not an office person) almost burned my brand new drill out. I've worked with wood for less than 2 years, and I've figured out how not to break the tools I work with. Don't FORCE the things!

Adriana, I think Ron was best at explaining it. Although, I am not in full agreement with regard to playing DotF at my "man gatherings". I really love the music. I have never been so focused on lyrics that I allow a good tune to go unplayed! In fact, that is a BIG reason we recorded Jawbreaker and Eat me Alive! They are great songs and they play well for us. I mean, the songs are great for our sound and my vocal limitations.
It has been so long now that I really do not recall how we even got to this point in the conversation! I don't remember what started this! HA!!!!!!!!!! DF, anyone who has payed any attention at all to the numerous Halford interviews since he came out would know that the 'gay sex' phase you're talking about was mainly (but NOT limited to) the DOTF album. Come on, Jawbreaker?
I prefer to put Nostradamus in it's own little category, away from the rest of my 'party' Priest stuff. If I'm hosting 'poker night', it won't be in the disc changer. That doesn't mean it's not metal or I don't like it, but it doesn't fit between Painkiller and SFV either. I would be more apt to lump it in with the early Priest stuff.
If I had to listen to the entire Priest catalog one after the other by order of what I like to the least that I like, the last four albums would be Point of Entry, DOTF, Ram It Down, then finally Turbo (being my least favorite). [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Saturday, January 10, 2009 8:55:03 AM) | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | I understand your point, jimmy. Personally, I like the album but I have been saying since day one that it is not my favorite. Like you, I do not simply rave on everything the Band produces. Not a big fan of Turbo at all. Not afraid to admit it, either. Nostradamus is a valiant effort at something that , eventually, most of the "greats" attempt. The Wall, Tommy...you get the idea. I suppose, in the Band's defense, that it is exactly the kind of subject matter we should expect from them. I mean, Rob already went through his "gay sex" phase with Defenders, right?
I do not rate Nostradamus in my top five but I have no problem with it. There are some great songs and the Band accomplished exactly what they wanted to with it. It is supposed to emote a dark, forboding feeling and it succeeds. As for the quality of it on a song by song basis, I feel Stained Class, Painkiller and the other "classics" far exceed it.
As for playing it in it's entirety, I do believe that it will happen. They have said they want to and, let's face it, if they were worried about selling out arenas, they would have changed their style a LONG time ago. Perhaps went to screaming and indecipherable growling? I don't know. The thing is, they are at a point where they do not have to play to fifty thousand people in order to survive or remain relevant. They are far beyond that. We will see a Nostradamus ONLY show. Count on it. |

Jimmy, I'm afraid you have misunderstood me. Or perhaps I was simply not clear in what I wrote. When I heard that the Band was planning an album based on Nostradamus, I had an idea of what to expect from it. I was not surprised by the way it was written and presented, although I am still a bit confused over the opera- stuff. Perhaps that is not as big a surprise to others? I don't know.
As for the comment on gay sex, I'm afraid you are reading far too much into that. I was only saying that it seems the Band (and Rob in particular) were rather fixated on gay sex, and sex in general, during that era. I have NO idea what to expect from the next album, if that is what you mean. I simply point out that Nostradamus is pretty much just what I thought it would be.
I am not sure if we are both speaking the same language, or at least thinking along the same lines, but I can assure you there was nothing insidious about my post. If you wish to discuss gay sex, I am sure there are Threads wherein you will find more than enough opinions and comments. I am not all that 'learned" on the subject. I understand your point, jimmy.

Zoom! Zoom! Right over you guys's heads, heh. Eh, putting the lyrics of some of the songs on DotF in context with an utterance around 1990 should shed light on the subject. That was a comment in passing anyway.
Strat, I believe "illudes" being mispelt the first time was what DF was poking fun at (in jest of course).
And hallo to all JP.com "noticeboard-ites," it's been a while since posting 'round these parts. I see quite a few old friends still gather. Hope all's well, I'll be back. <--And that's a threat, NOT a promise. Edited at: Saturday, January 10, 2009 7:48:42 PM |

I agree in what you said Freeze, it's a good album but is far from being one of their best.... why did you say "Rob went through his "gay sex" phase with Defenders"?? (I mean why do you say it was in Defenders and not other album)

I understand your point, jimmy.

Yeah, the album itself was not really the point of the post. It was more about those idiot fans of the band that sometimes post on the site. Just used the album as an example to illustrate their mentality. Seeing it played in its entirety would be good but i don't think there would be much of a market for it, hence the comment about small venues. One question. What made you bring up gay sex? Don't hate it, don't love it. It is fine with me. It is what it is. Personally, I was not expecting a Painkiller II. In fact, Nostradamus is pretty much what I figured it would be.

Lets be honest. Is Nostradamus in Priests top five albums? No. Top 10? Maybe but probably not. I'm sick of all the dooshbags on this site who keep going on about how great it is. I know everyones entitled to their own opinion and some members do legitimately love it but what I'm talking about are the kind of people who are not objective in any way. For example if someone was to say that they thought Nostradamus was a weak album and that it was a waste of money, you could guarantee a number of dickhead members would be all up in arms saying " hey man get your fucking head checked " or " fuck you Nostradamus rules " or some other brainless comment. These are the kind of bozos I can't stand. If Priest amplified a fart and recorded and released it these idiots would be saying it's one of the best things they've ever heard. I just hate that stupid, blind devotion and inability to differentiate between anything the band has done. I think these kind of fans detract from the site. Personally, I think the album is ok, good for what it is and a brave attempt to do something different but if Priest attempted to tour playing it in it's entirety they'd be playing in 500 seat halls.

His death is no more meaningful than any other child's. They are all extremely tragic, as are most passings.
I had to endure TWO hours of news last night with this kid as the "top story", then the Princess watches some Hollywood insider show that dedicated another hour and a half to him! Every commercial break went something like this, "When we return, more on this tragic loss. We will talk with the Travolta's dog to get his take, then we have an exclusive with a guy that was peeing at a gas station five blocks from the scene.." AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!
I understand that John Travolta is a movie star. I actually like the guy. Great actor. But as far as I am concerned, his kid is no more important than anyone else's and all this sensationalism over it is sickening. |

WHAT THE HELL is SO FRIGGIN IMPORTANT about Jett Travolta?!?!?!?!?!??
For the love of all that is holy!! WHY is this crap splattered all over the news and TV?? Specials on this kid and his "tragic' death!! SO FREAKIN WHAT??? Kids die EVERYDAY! Lots of them. All just as meaningful to their families as this kid was to Vinnie Barbarino!!!... WHY is it that this particular child is SO friggin relevant to the earth that we need hours and HOURS of coverage on him?? Was he closing in on a cure for cancer?? Was he involved in peace negotiations in the Middle East? Did he discover a formula that will fix the US financial crisis? NO!!!! He was the son of an actor. Nothing more.

Nah. We had tabloids and gossip pages in newspapers back in socialism. Its not really a matter of a socio-economic system... Its just people that want to see whats going on in another ones bedroom, particulary if that other one is rich and famous. And the basic hypocrisy, of course. Gloating on the sexual affairs of the famous, when you may have one yourself (speaking in general, of course, not about you). Makes people feel better about themselves, I guess. Nobody is quite sure why are they so big (cause she is nothing special, and he is not even close to being the best player for years), but they are, so we just have to deal with them...

I never liked being force fed anything. So I'll just have to keep my subscriptions to Popular Science, Ode, and things that are important to me. Oh, I so agree... I actualy remember that this story was out on the same day as the Israeli offensive in Gaza... And even on our news it got more attention!!! One kid dies, and just because he happened to be the son of a moviestar, we have to hear all about it... Oh, and of course, CNN Europe went on about it for half an hour at least... I mean, one, ONE kid died. How big a story can you make out of it? And at the same time, there are much more serious events going on in the middle East... No, that doesnt get into breaking news, because that would actualy make sense, and people would actualy want to hear about it! Waited a long time already, and there's not even one picture from Southamerican tour in the Photo section , who the hell is in charge of that? they went to Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.... you can't find hundreds and hundreds of pics of the States tour, you can also find Australia, Canada, Asia and Europe.... and not even one of any of the four countries they visited in 2008 tour, not even one pic of the 8 shows they've given here it's ridiculous.... aren't southamerican fans that important too? yes, I'm pissed off... And by the way... the person that is in charge of Priest management, it's NOT Columbia, it's Colombia.....and you could at least spell right Buenos Aires in the tour section.. how hard can it be? I forgot to set my alarm to go off this morning and I woke up at 5:20 am so I totally missed my cycling club. My mate meets me at the top of my road and we go on a two hour ride. It's usually 35 km and we leave at 5 am. I need to be up at latest 4:30 am and I just can't believe I missed the ride because I forgot to make sure my fecking alarm was on. By the time I woke up they would've already been way out of town so I had to just miss the ride this morning. They had a laugh and just said that tomorrow's ride will just be a bit longer so that I can make up for lost km's.
I've already made sure my alarm is set lol. |

What pisses me off....When the dingbats in our New Delhi office have a network issue, and don't check their side of things first and decide to call the WRONG F***ING team, prompting people to be woken up when they don't need to be. |
