Bricks inlayed onto the road mark the area where the Berlin Wall used to stand.
Checkpoint Charlie!
Anyone remember these little guys?

Here's the Reichstag, the parliamentary building. Visitors could visit the dome and walk around. As you can see below, there's a really long line to get in.
...it was worth it, though.
Here's the Berliner Dom, the city's main cathedral. It's HUGE up close!! So pretty, too.
I swear, that tower was not Photoshopped into this pic, nor in the one above. One can see it from anywhere in the city, even from the plane as it lands.

Thanks, everyone! You all just HAVE to go to the Rockcafé Halford. Add it your bucket lists or something. See it before you die. You'll be amazed at the amount of stuff the owner has on display. If you do decide to go, go on a Friday night (it closes at 12:30 a.m. on the weekdays).
The first time I went it was to celebrate Rob's birthday right after it struck midnight. There was no one there except for the owner. He was wearing a "JP United" tour shirt and a JP Cross pendant that said Halford on it. He was such a sweet-natured guy. I asked for a "Nightwish" (a White Russian...damn good!) and left shortly before closing time. The second time I went was on a Friday, several hours before leaving Berlin for the US. There was more people this time, and men had to pay an entrance fee. When I went in, one of the bartenders thought I was a guy and asked that I go back and pay four Euros. Another bartender told him the exception for women. He looked at me again, saw that I was, indeed, female, and he promptly apologized. This time I got hot chocolate (couldn't get any alcohol thanks to the cold I picked up the day before). There was another room (a "wing", if you will) that served as a discoteque of sorts, and this time it was open. The DJ played all kinds of Heavy Metal music and you could either "dance" to it or sit at the tables and simply listen. At one side there's a stage where bands can play...and back at the bar behind the statue there is a lounging area with leather seats. Oh! And mixed drinks are given band names. There's a Halford one, although no Judas Priest one. Sucks.
So...like I said...GO THERE!

HOLY CRAP!! I've got to get there now! Now that's my kind of cafe. HELL YEAH! He even has a huge JP cross with guitars on it. I'm so glad that someone loves this band as much as we all do here and dedicated a cafe to them!

The cafe itself was great! It's small and intimate. There were posters, flags, etc. posted on the walls. There were also backstage pass lanyards, LPs, guitars signed by JP members...in a nutshell, it's one large collection of JP gear. Videos (music or concert videos) are displayed on a screen behind the bar . If you go to Berlin, you gotta go visit. The OWNER looks like Rob Halford!! Great place to be.

How did you do in this half-marathon, Guids? Better than the last time? Worse?

HAAA! You'd probably end up dragging me at the end! I'm not sure how much running we'd do - we'd probably be laughing too hard to run! Yup, it's all for the animals. They need all the help they can get! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by spapad from Sunday, August 01, 2010 1:13:56 PM)

HRMG, I can walk a 15 minute mile. Perhaps if you drag me along, we could average 13.5 minutes! HA!! Good luck to you. It's all for the good of the doggies!

Guido! It's a bitch running in that heat! Congrats! I'm going to run a 5K in September for the Humane Society fundraiser. Can't seem to get under a 12 minute mile..... oh well, I don't think the animals will mind though.
Welcome back!!

Tough call, actually. They map it off in KM. 40 in 2hrs 13mins (vs my normal 13.1 miles in 2:04). NOTHING like an American pro run. There it is really funny. Water stations pop up whenever they want and we were 32+C. FREAKIN' HOT!
I say that I beat my best time but have yet to do the proper calculations. Thanks for asking.
