Haahaha! A Brillo bad? Yes, Sampson definitely fit him it sounds like. We finally have our youngest calling him Sebastian now. Funny thing is, he never answered to Sampson, but always answered to Sebastian when we used it! He made his choice, even he doesn't like Sampson!
Sebastian has my vote as well. My first dog was a samoyed. Adopted name? Brillo! That was because he ate a brillo pad as a puppy. HE bacame Sampson when we got him. Your new horse of a dog "to be" doesn't strike me as a "Sammy."

Well, the man named him Sampson. He just isn't a Sampson to me. Mark and our oldest don't like it either. We are trying to convince our youngest that his name should be Sebastian. If you go to my FB page, I posted pictures from the Rescue when we first met him. He gave the boys endless kisses, it was adorable! He is so easy going and has a fantastic temperament! Good thing because he is HUGE! Just compared him to the 6 month old Shepherd in the neighborhood and he looks like a 4 month old compared to our boy! AND, he still has some growing to do! I think we have a pony on our hands

He never saw toys before, how SAD is that? He didn't even know what to do with a ball! It is so much fun watching him discover new things, even though it breaks my heart that he never had those things to begin with. He was never trained to sit/heel/down/stay, etc., so I really have my work cut out for me! It was much easier training a 15lb puppy at 8 weeks vs. a 70lb 6 1/2 month old puppy! But he is very eager to please and he is potty trained, so that's good!

You could have called him "Mushy!" lol. Do cats come when they are called if you don't rattle a food box? "Boo" is probably better than "Mushy" in any case! HAAAA!
I had to keep the name of my adopted 'tiel as "Fred." Not only does he respond to the name, he SAYS it 100+ times a day! "Freddie, Freddie, HAPPY Bird!" Couldn't change it if I wanted.

Thank you Guido, Vail, Budred, Hellrider and Becks for your kind words, it means a lot to me. It's been a very rough couple of days. We were very lucky to have had such a wonderful boy to share our hearts and home with for 16 wonderful years. He is now chasing bunnies and squirrels with his daddy..... and man, those squrrels and bunnies don't stand a chance! My boy could haul ass in his prime! Which reminds me of a very funny story: we had this squirrel that liked to tease Wolfgang when he was about 2 years old. The squirrel would sit on the top of the fence and shake his tail and chatter at him and then prance along the top bar of the fence jumping to a tree when Wolfgang got too close. Well, one day, Mr. cocky squirrel underestimated Wolfgang's speed and was shaking his tail and taunting him and started running along the top of the fence as Wolfgang was chasing him. Well, Wolfgang outran the squirrel and the next thing you know, he timed it just right and stood up on his hind legs and slammed his paw down on the top of the fence, missing the squirrel by an inch!! It scared the crap out of that squirrel and it never taunted him again. HAAAHAHA! God I wish I would have been able to record that!

My sweet Lucy standing in the outlines of what will be my bedroom someday. She really was good on mowing day. She was so funny when I mowed down to the bridge in my backyard she came along and was walking in front of the mower and kept glancing off to the right of the path. I figured she was just hearing the mower throw old twigs out in the brush. Then a squirell ran out as fast as it could go in front of the mower and Lucy was abosolutely terrified of it. lol She ran all the way home to the porch. I think she tought the squirell was "out to get her". LOL

Ok, so here's the bridge and you got miss Lucy as an added bonus. lol Notice the scrub trees that need to go.
Here's the actual span area. Someone has snuck picnic tables out on it this spring. They are determined to use the bridge as part of the
memorial park. Bland County said that bridge could not be part of the park due to the creosote. Well us local yocals don't apparently see
it that way. lol
Here is the path going back to my back yard.

Are you making fun of my Lucy's girth? She's fluffy, and will be running that off in the field this summer. lol
How KEWL (and exciting!). Do keep posting progress reports.
On this one, I had to read it twice...I first read that you mowed DOWN that bridge. I was thinking "small wooden culvert" until I saw picture 2. Damn! Was the next thought. A big green mowing machine can do THAT?!? LOL!!!
Lucy looks way too cute. Lot more meat than Calvin but same happy smile.

No, it say's: "Weight Limit 12 tons". So pretty much any human is Safe; even elephants are welcome. Maybe over time, the bridge has weakened by half lets say. It's only been out of service since 1984 and that would still support 6 tons. I'll have to go down to the bridge one day and snap a shot. It's comprised of steel girders and the flooring is railroad creosote treated timber with creosote put over it for the asphalt to be applied which has now worn away. Poisonous? You bet ya! if you chose to spend years on end laying on the timbers.
What about that Lucy eh? Best girl ever? Now, if only her twin could be afraid of the common grey squirell the way she is. lol She is afraid of anything that moves the the brush. LOL
VERY cool bridge, btw! What does the sign that appears to be hanging on it say? "Cross at your own risk?" "Beware of trolls?" "3 Billy-Goat Gruff X-ing?"

LOL
The aforementioned bridge:

Awwww...so sorry to read this, Becks.
R.I.P Marmite. He will be certainly crossing that Rainbow Bridge.
Quite ironic that this thread was at the top of the new posts list when I logged on - sadly, we had to put our lovely cat Marmite to sleep today. He was only 6 but had congestive heart failure. He had deteriorated too much and was struggling to breathe. The diuretic he was on weren't working anymore and all he had the energy to do was eat and focus on breathing.

That made me sad, he looks a little like my cat. He's all black and I've had him
about six years also. Take care. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Becks from Thursday, March 29, 2012 12:59:47 AM)

Awww poor pup, dogs are funny when they really want to bury something. Not so nice when they dig up their treats and come over to say hi with rotten bone breath, blegh! LOL!
What do you do when your little sweet dog is so nuts to bury a chew chew, that she causes her own nose to bleed trying to bury it? Now, a week after the incident, I don't think that black is going to grow back black. I think it's going to stay pink. Poor kiddo!
[guidogodoy] Sunday, October 30, 2011 6:13:47 PM
Awwww. Poor poochie.
Can't give those to Calvin as he has the same problem. He'll run himself crazy trying to bury it. Such anguish that I finally have to just take it away.

Good thing Calvin is small, huh? You and I would have needed a couple buckets worth of that stuff for our furry ones when it happened to us. Maybe because of our dogs thick undercoats it lingers longer because you can't get to it? Yes, that smell returns over and over again, uuuggghhh!

About Calvin, you know that the Febreze did the trick? It has been days now, we've had rain and he still smells like a hairy fresh spring day. Well, maybe a bit more like "fall dirt" as he's been digging in it most of the morning but, still, it ain't bad!
Maybe I should have added a happy face or an (lol).

Douse him with gasoline.
Let him soak for five minutes.
Set a match to him and after two minutes toss him in the pool.
I'm not sure if he'll live or not but the skunk smell will be removed.
No...really...I heard that works.

I do in fact know how to get rid of most of the skunk smell. Wolfgang decided to play with a cat at 2am in our backyard earlier this summer, only the cat was a skunk!!! OMG, THE WORST smell in the world! Anyway, we looked it up online and found a chemist had come up with this solution. Mark rushed to the store and bought the stuff and we bathed him at 2:30am in our driveway. I'm sure the neighbors were like WTF are they doing giving their dog a bath at this time??? While Mark was at the store which is a block from our house, I had to keep Wolfgang put. I almost threw up about 10 times. Here is the formula (we tripled it):
1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent.
Mix the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl. The mixture will fizz. Wet your dog and thoroughly massage the solution into the coat. Be sure to keep the mixture out of the dogs eyes, nose and mouth. If it is necessary to apply it to the dogs face, very carefully use a washcloth or a sponge. After applying the mixture to all parts of your dog that may have been sprayed let it sit on the coat for at least 10 minutes. Then rinse the dog thoroughly.
He still smells a little, but at least I can let him in the house! Good luck Guido!! I feel your pain!
Ironic that I'd post something about Cletus eatin' a skunk as Calvin ate a baby one on the nightly drag the other day.

Just an update - out of my original 14 strays that I've been keeping in my house (3 moms and 11 kittens, BUT 16 in total if you count my 2 cats) - 7 kittens have gone to great homes, and we have another adopt-a-thon next weekend that we are bringing the rest to. Plus I'm working on the husband about possibly keeping one of the moms...which would bring my personal pet total to 3 cats...fingers crossed!!! Next, we look for a rescue dog to add to the mix!

There are places that eat dogs, and they also have dogs or pets. Seems to put a premium on being the best you can be as far as dog one upmanship. But some are bred just for that and some are not. I won't name countries but I'm sure if you Google it you will find it.

Yummy? I bet you wouldn't like it if someone said that about your pets. A few cultures would fancy a hind quarter of dog for dinner.

I seem to remember KK mentioning somewhere that he has a peacock...
On his website Glenn says he likes animals... but I didn't find any reference if he has one... Maybe there was one pic in the sinful thread - him and a little dog... [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by thekissofjudas from Saturday, May 07, 2011 6:18:16 AM)

I had to give up my tortoise when my (ex)girlfriend and I moved in together. I haven't seen either one recently but the tortoise is at my kids school & doing well. What was I thinking, I've missed him for a year and was over her in a day.
