OK, let me try to answer that.
The current BCS system is about as good as we can get for now. Would I like to see a playoff system? Probably. MY concern is what it may do to classes and academics. Afterall, they are supposed to be in school getting an education, right?
I think there should be some kind of a playoff system, I guess. What bothers me is the abundance of schools that cry about not getting into the Bowl system. I have a problem with "nobody" schools that win several games in a row, then ACCIDENTALLY knock off a real school in the game of their lives and right away start complaining about the "fairness" of the bowl system. I think there is something to be said about tradition and strength of schedule. A team like a Notre Dame or SC or whatever is a school that has earned the right to play in a bowl year in and year out because they play against QUALITY opponents and have a TRADITION of football excellence. They are a QUALITY football program that we should enjoy watching. Take UNLV for example. They are horrible. EVERY year. Then, by sheer accident, they knock off ASU (who were ranked) and right away the morons in Vegas are screaming about a bowl game! WHAT??!?!?!?!? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, they have taken a dump (as usual) since then and the point is now moot, but you see what I mean.
To determine a true NATIONAL champion we need a playoff system. That much I will concede. I have NO idea how they can get that done.

Hey there DF, I enjoy watching the college game, though probably not as much as you. Considering your 'passion' for the college game, are you in favor of the current BCS system or would you like a playoff scenario? Also, if you would like to see a playoff, how would you like to see it formatted?

We have come to a very difficult time of year for me. I am not an NBA fan. I am not much of an NFL fan, although I will watch the Sunday games and playoffs. I am not the type that is "rabid" or seeks out like-minded fans to sit on Sunday and watch any particular team. "Pro" sport ended from me when the Phillies won the World Series. That is not to say that I will not be watching football or even an occasional hockey game. It' just that I am not all that interested.
My passion is college football. I love Saturdays! I watch game after game. Love it!! To me, it is a far better product but not because of player ability. It is because of player passion!! The rivalries. The history. It is all so very exciting. To watch young men play a game for the love of the game and their school is a far better thing for me! I know we have an abundance of hockey fans here and that is great. I can watch it once in a while. Pro basketball does NOTHING for me at all. Nothing. I would watch college basketball anytime but I just cannot stand the pros. To me, professional basketball has become an abomination. Yes, the players are "talented" but they are not professionals. They are not the Magic Johnsons and the Larry Birds that I used to watch. They are all that is digusting and revolting about professional sports. I have said this before byt, the year that the American Team was beaten in the Olympic sealed it for me. I know there has been considerable changesince then but I will never forget it.
And so we start the transition into a new year. Baseball is a long five months away and the college season is in full swing. I will enjoy my weekends but I will dream of spring. |
