It could be that her master had some smelly issues and she picked up the scent from the house. lol It's funny but it's not. We once had a friend from Italy come visit for a few months and he had serious sweat issues, so much so that he took meds for it, and washed his shoes constantly. While he did not smell bad to be around his room began to smell god awful. I had one of those large inflateable beds in there, and when he left i threw it out.
Must be awful to have that problem. It took a good steam cleaning to get that room to stop smelling funky. Hi Spapad - my bad for not clarifying - it was my childhood cat that made it to 22....Nita (the Rottie/Doberman) was about 15 or 16 I believe. My boss at my first job had an English Bull Terrier named Lucy (his name was Ricky, how cute is that :), he used to bring it to his store every day. She was a real character. No matter how many times he'd bathe her or not, she always smelled like salami....very condusive to good business in fine jewellery retail! NUPE - I had a beautiful rabbit as a kid....but we ended up giving her to a farm (hopefully my parents weren't lying !!!! Years later, I went to Italy to meet my dad's side of the family, and to my absolute horror, everywhere we went, rabbit was the mail course for dinner....I didn't eat well for weeks ! |

Ah German Shepherds are beautiful dogs. I was once looking at Standard Poodles on the dog buying websites and breeder websites and I noticed so many, especially private breeders, geneticly tested their dogs for the probability of hip dysplasia and some other conditions Poodles are known to have, and I thought that was great that they cared so much about producing good and healthy animals for people to have. I would guess that reputable German Shepherd breeders probably do the same, which would increase your chances of having a long lived happy dog.
Wow, that is one long lived Rottie/Doberman. I don't think I've heard of many dogs that large living to such an age. My sister had a Collie/Chow and he lived to the age of 18. He was starting to show his age, couldn't hear or see too well anymore, but he lived a long healthy life, which is even more surprising being that he got hit by a car when he was two and practically had his leg screwed and rodded back together. The Dr. said he'd never run again. He ran everywhere, truely remarkable work that Dr. did.
Nupe, that sounds like one cool rabbit! What's more interesting about him is that he actually enjoys listening to Judas Priest! If I don't have a Priest record playing from my stereo, he looks a little anxious and moves around. But if I put a CD or LP in, he starts lying down and looks like he's really enjoying himself... |

I have the Same Experience with our cat. He Was the neighbors, but he moved to our house. He is The best Cat. Does everything you described.
Great Picture [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Budred from Monday, September 13, 2010 8:55:14 AM)| | | Budred wrote: | | Notice the paper on the printer. He has this thing about laying on paper. If my wife spreads
out a newspaper to read he'll come over and lay on it. It's funny. The wife caught him like this,
she had to take a picture. It's funny how he has everything hanging over yet he's still sleeping.
A couple quick facts about him.
He started as the neighbor's cat. She kept him outside. My wife set food out for him one day.
A couple of weeks later the neighbor lady is like "My cat just packed his bags and moved next door."
That was six years ago. He's still here.(LOL) He's the coolest cat too. He never claws anything. He's a
lap cat and sleeps with us everynight. He loves my wife, he's always on her. The best part is that he's
housebroken. We don't keep a litter box and he always goes outside. He'll sit by the door or top corner
of our couch when he wants out. Very quiet and mellow also. Basically everything you could want in a cat. | | | joedraper wrote: | | lol that is one seriously cute kitty | | | Budred wrote: | | Our cat doing what he does best.

BTW, thank you all for your words of comfort regarding Oprah my 'lil rat girl. (Yes, we do come up with crazy names lol? These two sisters wre Robyn and Oprah a kind of joke involving Dr Phil. Oprah was the big one and she'd hit the shit out of Robyn so we called her Oprah because she was more agressive lol. She turned out to be very sweet natured and was just putting her little sister in place. They loved each other and were great companions. I want to get two more but I need to think about wether it is too soon considering it really has only been a week and a bit since she died. I love the rats so much but it is getting heartbreaking that they die so soon. I mean, if you get 3 years it's a good run for them. This litle one was very precious.. Don't think I'm nuts but even the cat started to act weird after she died. He used to jump up and watch her in her cage.. He got specially closer to her after her sister died earlier this year. We joked that he is probably thinking that his TV is broken lol. He really watched her like she was a very intersting program lol... never tried to eat her, just watched her.. But then Yuda is a super cat and a legend in his own right here!
What is sadder for me is that loosing the last rat makes Hymne's death a bit more final for me. She always managed to get me to adopt rescue pets lol. She got the rats for her snake from a pet breeder but guilt got the better of her (the woman who she got them from made a huge scene about how she was so happy that they were going to be pets in a good home and not snake fodder lol) I can't believe it has been almost six moths since that day that changed my life. |

Sorry your rat friend has gone Joe. Tame rats are cute by nature and good to hold. Sweet little things. It is a shame they don't live long.
As for your friend. That will stay with you for a while before you can look back and remember the good things and smile. It takes a long while, but it will come. Not permanently but for the most you will be able to remember her with fondnesss and remember the times you shared with love. She would not have it any other way. With what I've seen of her personality, she would have more agreed to a party in her name with happiness and love, than a funeral. I think you know that. Perhaps he's just off romancing like a true alley cat.
Owned an alley cat as a child, and he did as he pleased. One morning, he came home all tore up. To the vet with him, as another tougher alley cat had torn into his neck. I could have cats back then, before the doctor discovered they were my downfall, and the reason I was sick constantly. I would not allow my mother to give him away though. We kept him till, at an old age, he disappeared and was never seen again.
His name was torn straight from the movie I knew as a child:
Thomas O"Mally the Alley Cat. Loved him. The only Cat I ever loved. Hi.. anytime!
I'm glad the vet has her on a drip, right now that's the best thing. I hope she'll be home in no time. It is so horrible when a pet gets seriously ill, specially when they're puppies still. But I'm sure with the vet and with all the love she's getting, she's got enough motivation to pull through this. So far the vet says she's a fighter and still has the odd period where she is bouncy and seems energetic, so the vet is hopeful.
Thanks for the talk last night Joe, and for your support in this. You are a true friend. I'm sure Honey thanks you too :) |

Listen, I know this is very scary but you need to ask your vet for a hydration mixture. You get this sachet of hydration stuff, it has electrolytes in it which is very important for a puppy that young who can't keep food down. It's call rehydrit I think. You need to keep her with you and every 15-30 minutes.. syringe some down her throat so that y ou know she's getting it in. Yuda was very, very ill and I believet hat hydrating until the virus passes is crucial. Please phone your vet now and ask. You're in my thoughts and prayers xxx. My dog needs to get a grip! When I go to sit on the couch, I don't care if she is half the house away, she miraculously turns up sitting exactly where my rear end is facing. I don't know how she does it! But she is always exactly where I want to sit on the couch, so I have to fuss with her and make her move. She fiegns indignity and grumps about, but always moves. What is it about her and MY spot on the couch?? lol I own that space! it's mine and she does it EVERY chance she gets.

I agree with you, there are plenty of dogs or cats out there who deserve decent homes and a good life. My father's first dog was rescued from a squatter camp. She was in terrible condition, and when we eventually had to put her down last year due to a brain tumour (she'd been with us a good 12 years) I felt happy that she'd had a better life than how she started. We have two rabbits, who when the mood takes them, already dig up the garden, so Honey will only add to the "renovating" of the yard LMAO!! As for the chewing, that has already started. She loves toes, fingers and shoes, although she will grab the leg of your pants and hang on. She hates being on her own and will practically howl if she can't see anyone. She chases the cats and the rabbits, none of whom are all that impressed with us at the moment LOL!!

Thanks guys...still feeling sad but Robin is still alive and sleeping in her little house now lol. She looks lonely but it is cruel to buy a baby rat and put it in with her.. too much age difference.
Spa, they are incredibly social and very loving pets. Over the years I've learnt to sort of judge when they need to pee or poop and have gotten pretty good at putting them down just before they need to go. I found that hamsters and mice are a lot less 'toilet trainable' than rats. They are so intelligent that they even get to know their names and respond to them so that is also one of the reasons it affects me so much when I loose one. I get so attatched to them and they don't have the longest life span to start with. She was around 2 years old and seemed in good health so it's a mystery to me. Her friend looks fine but I feel so sad for her bieng alone..

This will probably elicit some (p*ssy) comments from the fellas
but I love the cat. He's adorable. |
