yea Painkiller was my first album too by priest, i luv how they can change up their styles even after being as successful as they are
but no disrespect to acdc, they have kept their style for years and years now. I luv their music to death tho but i like it when a band can swich stuff up |

| I have a soft spot for Painkiller... it was the first Priest album I ever heard.. but I do agree that this should not be 'the album' that all Priest work done since should be compared to. In fact, I hate it when people compare any albums to previous ones.. every new album should be just that: A new, fresh offering that is a new journey for all involved to go on together.. There's space for all the Priest albums.. (lol sorry MG.. you've got me reminiscing now). |

okay, i dont think they shouldve "skipped" Ram It Down and Turbo...some amazing songs came from those albums, as they werent as strong as Sad Wings or British Steel, they were good albums and i think every Priest album they are developing their style in a different way, and i dont know if we would have painkiller if Turbo or RID came out. (IMO) cuz i rlly liked blood red skies and the title track ram it down, and yes...turbo was pretty poppy at times, but i rlly like out in the cold, turbo lover, and reckless.
and what was said earlier how ppl hung on to painkiller cuz it was the last halford album until AoR. I am a fairly new fan of Priest and thts not why i love the album so much. Its not My fav, but its such a consistent album and every song on it sounds great. thts my opinion |

That one single statement alone covers all there is to say when describing Priest's style!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Long gone are what I consider to be the classics such as Victim of Changes, Beyond the Realms of Death, Dreamer Deceiver, Call for the Priest and Stained Class. To me, those songs leave Painkiller eating dust. As far as a Painkiller type song on each album...well, Priest has proven they can play as fast and as heavy as any band can...been there done that. I'm sure if they wanted to bust out a thrasher, they very well could do it. Keeping with your quote, I would have to admit that even on the albums that I don't care for, the Metal twist is evident on them as well. Turbo has the songs Turbo Lover, Locked In and Hot for Love are the ones I like and they definately fit your quote, especially live. Point of Entry has Hot Rockin' and Desert Plains (live) . Ram It Down has Ram It Down and Hard As Iron. So, even with what I consider to be my least fav (and weakest) albums, I can find at least 1 or 2 gems on each. I'm a fan of Maiden as well, but they lost me even before Dickenson left. I have heard a lot of all their music as a good friend of mine is to Maiden what I am to Priest, and as I've told him many many times, I just don't find there music interesting anymore. I loved there first 7 or so albims, but they beat their sound to death. How many of us wear the same jeans or color shirt every day?? Even I have more than 1 pair of shoes. Maidens new music doesn't inspire me at all, and music has to move me if I am going to enjoy it. Painkiller, in and of itself, is definately a great song and great Priest album, but just 1 in a long list of great songs and great albums, but I am looking forward to their next classic...

to conclude...there's no band keeping the same style in one album or another...every album is a new experience, and every album should have its own mysticism and its own spirit in its own way!
