Who's the better vocalist?

[starvinguitarist] Tuesday, February 24, 2009 12:28:43 PM
Who the fuck is Tim Owens? LOL... Kiddin'  but seriously, I don't care who you compare Halford to, he has my vote every time. HALFORD FOR PRESIDENT!
[icecreamman] Sunday, January 25, 2009 7:53:25 PM
Actually I like Owens as a singer, he did a great job filling in for Rob; but he is nothing compared to the Metal God.

Wow, I didn't think that this thread would still be alive.  That being said I will share my OPINION.  I personally enjoy some of the Ripper material as well as some of his work with Beyond Fear.  But please let me make it very clear.  I first was impressed with Priest because of Halford's vocals and the twin guitar riffs of Tipton and Downing.  Owens was a "fill in" who hopefully finds his own way in the world of Metal.  Now please................................................................................................

LET THIS THREAD DIE!!!!!!

Sorry forgot a point here, better vocalist? Listen to the very end vocal note. ORIGINAL HALFORD VERSION,  that    "SECOND TO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Compare that to Owens, Second to NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE.

Im pretty sure Halford got his Deity status from the length and quality of his vocals, something Owens tries very very....... very heard to duplicate. READ THAT D-U-P-L-I-C-A-T-E???? HHmmmm imagine that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, YOU FUCKING DOUCHE BAG, HAHAHAHAHA im sorry but wow, ok i had heard the hype about Owens version of Rapid fire but i had never botherd to hear it for myself. Man that is so weak, thats the only word i can find to describe it, the lack of emotion he has through most of the song, he sounds like a robot programed to say things....oh wait he is. Get the fucking clue buddy, you hero lives in the shadow of the God that made him. What would tims owens be without Judas Priest and Rob Halford, he'd be a douche bag like you, some unknown. Listen you can talk up your dream boy all you want but the is a Judas Priest Chat room. Whether you want to accept it or not ROB HALFORD IS JUDAS PRIEST. You can either get that through your head or go suck his dick on a Beyond fear chat room with the other 4 members.

Thanks for watching. I have to admit the Halford band was pretty decent. Basically just a Priest copy cat band fronted by Rob Halford but pretty decent.  Twin guitars, fast drumming, pretty good vocals, ect. A big improvement over Fight and that juggernaut of a metal assult knows as Two, the so called "Metal God " at his finest! HaHaHA!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1nA5cxJ1Ao  HAHAHAHA!!!  Hey that Betrayal video would make a good concept for the next Saw movie! What would they call it ? Saw 14, Saw 15! HAHAHA!!!!  Seriously though, Halfod was pretty good but that Judas Priest Rapid Fire video shows they had more raw energy than Halford any day.  Now if you or anyone else (devil's_ child) want to crawl out of the box and hear some  insane vocals try this one by Ripper's Beyond Fear.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvkmBI_pygE Game Over.

Now now! Both of you ('Child and guido) are being silly. Expecting a rational, mature or intelligent response is asking FAR too much. The boy certainly has a right to his opinion. Asking for anything more than that is asking for way more than he can give. I, for one, feel he has done an admirable job in exposing his thoughts and ability to reason. Let's not "push the envelope", as it were.

On the subject of the video, guido you are a FAR better man than I am, for I could not make it through the entire thing. Just does not have much to offer for me. I recall that my second wife worked security here in Vegas for a Priest show in the late 90's. I do not remember the place, but Ripper was the vocalist and she made a comment that stuck with me to this day.  She said, "It was like watching a good Priest Tribute Band". Her words, not mine. But, how telling this one sentence really is, no?

'Child, I think you are onto something with your "antagonist" remark. Well done.

You said it mate! .... Listening to "Ripper"... (someone tell me where he got that name from because it sounds ridiculous....). gives me a headache. Halfords voice sounds heavenly no matter what era or what register he uses. He doesn't have to scream to impress me, Owens sounds and looks like he's trying hard to impress the audience. He may be able to sing, but there is now way you can compare him. Let us not forget what the actual question is here: "Who is the better vocalist?".... It has nothing to do with who's your favourite, it is who is better... and the answer is clear even if you like Owens more.

To add... Halford and Fight kick major metal arse.....

While I appreciate the "Mr." moniker / address of respect, nope. You are not going to convince me with that video. Watched it all the way through which reminded me that I have the whole concert bootleg! Watched it ONCE. The odd thing that even reminded me that I had it is that he laughingly has "Ripper" written on the back of his shirt! LOL!

Don't get me wrong. I like Owens as a singer just not as the lead of Judas Priest (OR Iced Earth, for that matter). The fact that he is younger and can sing falsetto does NOT put him in the same league as the Metal God himself. Even in the lower registers he uses today, Halford can convey more pure emotion in both voice and stage presence today than screechy / hoppy Owens could ever hope in his days with Priest. Compare Fight and, my personal fav, Halford band.

Ok..... I have asked you this before and have still not gained a plausible response from you...... Why are you so loyal to the Ripper Owens cause?.... Are you just choosing his side to be the antagonist?, Do you feel you have to be the minority to make a point? What do you have against Rob Halford?.... None of your responses so far have even made me think.... and somehow I feel me making this post is futile, I sense no intelligence comming from your direction.. So go ahead make some smart arse response... It just confirms your lack of maturity and intelligence. Prove me wrong if you will.............

as simple as saying that the ripper albums have the record of less sales all over the world for those who listen to judas....at least in the JP world...actually demolition was the one with  less copies sold...trying to compare halford is a sin!!
[HylandJames] Saturday, November 29, 2008 7:55:11 AM

Ripper did a fine job, but having listened to nothing but Priest everyday since Halford has been back, Ripper sounds like he is yelling with a lot of effort, and adding random screams where they don't belong, especially on the original stuff.

It just comes natural to Halford, and he knows where to change or add a scream when doing things live that give a new, yet natural twist to a classic song.

That and Halford is just a 100 times better....

In my experience, it felt like the 80's were done and a new decade was begining. Still, anything from Judas Priest was far better than anything else I bought at the time. I think Tim Owens had his chance at "American Idol" and won. Thanks to him I saw Priest in the Jugulator tour and wow, I was sober....shit...that's bad.
Better drunk at an Halford's gig than sober at a Tim Owen's...
Am I making sense?
:-D

I was devastated when Rob left, but elated when they came back with Ripper, now did he sound like Rob,no but close enough to pull it off. I like the stuff from them from that time frame, after all it was the same other four guys you know!! But to put into words the joy I felt when i heard that Rob had returned, there isn`t enough room on this site for that long of a post. I stuck with them thru it all as Glenn and KK are what drew me to this band anyway.

It appears that, somehow, we went from maintaining a record that was "uncurved", to an obscure equation involving "band bashing" to "acceptance" all in a few short days...!??!?! Amazing! A fine example of the Phases of Mourning, I believe? And as for my MENSA application, I was denied for misspelling my name.

Glad to know there is so much passion regarding one fellow. I am certain he would be happy to know that he has such ardent supporters! I have made the decision to remove myself from what appears to be developing into a maelstrom of pointless argument ( If not simply futile).  I've said what I have to say on the topic and I leave those that fancy themselves FAR more learned than I on this to make the final conclusion...IF they actually can do so.
[Dime/UNDER BLOOD RED SKIES!!!!] Friday, November 28, 2008 7:42:13 AM
Thats what i'd like to know aswell. Judas Priest is Rob Halford, as Rob Halford is Judas Priest. No one on the face of the planet will ever, ever sound exactly like Rob Halford. But there always be ones who try. The period where he became singer for Priest he had a pretty powerful voice, but he had 3 decades that really affected the way his voice sounded. Each album he altered his sound to meet what that specific album achieved. I can't think of single other vocalist that has achieved such an enormous drastic change that slowly evolved into what has become known as the Metal God. Owens will always sadly live in the shadow of Rob Halford.

Exactly... but there are 2 members who will never grasp that concept.... Now.. watch closely as you read......

Ripper WAS the singer for Priest during Robs absence....... He is NO LONGER the singer for Priest..... He CANNOT be compared to Rob in any way, shape or form.... I get the feeling i may need flash cards and food rewards to try and educate these 2 nay sayers.... Answer me this...... WHy are you so loyal to the "Ripper Owens cause"?...... Please do tell....
