You got it.

I also had a perpetual cold/flu: I believe I had what is called a wallking pneumonia. I now have a mild cold once every year around Christmas and getting milder as time goes by.

I didn't feel very cool smoking, sneezing and coughing but the cigarrete was my crutch back then.
My skin tone has improved soooo much. My teeth are perly white and I can taste food and smell almost like when I was a young kid. Though I can tell ciggies have done some damage that I don't know if I'll ever recover my entire sense of smell and taste.

I smoked 3 packs of cigs daily when I quit, having smoked for about 15 years.

I smoked for twenty years and quiting for me was brutal.  I disagree that it is all psychological.  Smoking effects each of us differently.  For me the withdraw was brutal.  You might laugh but I used an herbal remedy called Nicoban and it really helped.  I won't lie, it still took two attempts to completely quit but the herbal pills did take the edge of the withdrawal amd made it possible for me to finally quit.  I haven't smoked for two years and am done with cigarettes.  Best of luck to any who make the effort.

I totally agree.

I kept smoking off and on for years and finally last year in July - I quit.

And that was it. I just kept asking myself why am I smoking in the first place. I mean it gives you bad breath, your clothes stink and it also gave me heartburn regularly.

It costs a lot of money!

I mean I'm pretty cool anyway without a cigarette dangling from mouth...

Udo

Depends on the individual. For some it's just like you describe while for others, like myself, it simply took some resolve never again to smoke and pass that initial month stage  - and I've never touched another cig since. I think the harder people make it out to be the harder it will turn out to be because for the most part, it's all a psychological issue. It's self-suggestion to say it's too hard to quit, IMO.

I know what you mean, Ive tried to quit smoking several times, but I get all psychotic and yell at myself :o/ ... I did however read somewhere that women have a harder time quitting than men. We get more addicted than they do, so the study said. I know it sounds like an excuse, but still ... Good luck to those of you who's gonna try, Ive given up trying and I think nothing short of a doctor giving me a death sentence will help.

everyone has a nervous or some what "bad" habit of some sort.

BTW....I cannot hit half the notes Rob does today.  Maybe when I was a kid before my pre-smoking days.  I wasn't even aware he smoked.  He still sounds so KILLER!  But kudos to him if he has quit.  Not only to keep his voice, but also to keep his HEALTH, too.  Now, if only I could follow my own advice, I'd be in great shape.

I know...it is the hardest thing to quit smoking.  Been trying to forever myself.  It's especially hard when you have a job like mine & work w/ the public eight hours a day.
Non-smokers always say "Why don't you just QUIT?"  But they don't realize how powerful a drug Nicotine is...as powerful & addictive as heroin.  And the withdrawals of quitting smoking are just AWEFUL.  Not just a "nick fit" here & there, but so bad to where you just want to freakin' CRY or break $hit.  You get these really bad, frustrating pulling pains in the pit of your stomach.  That is one vice I REALLY need to kick & have the hardest time doing.  Good luck to anyone who can.  That is one habit I wish I would have NEVER picked up.

Hi Stefi,

Thanks so much!  Your advice is good as it did work when I was pregnant, but  the baby was stillborn -- so I started smoking again immediately upon leaving the hospital.  It was just over 12 years ago, so don't worry -- long time ago.  I have a tattoo in her memory -- it's all good.

However, that means I'm a bit too old to try again, even if I wanted to.  But, I do appreciate your suggestion.

Good girl, for you quitting!  Nothing like motivation, eh?  Thanks again.
Cheers, Victoria

WhiskeyWoman, I quit smoking when I got pregnant with my first child more than four years ago and I am still clean. I don't know how old are you but you may try this, it really helps :)

Geez... I don't know why anyone smokes -- especially me!
I'm trying to quit and not doing so freakin' well...
  IT SUCKS!!!

And, it does affect one's voice ...  I have to work so much harder to hit Lita's "Kiss me Deadly", and others...

Anyone out there who has quit who can offer some help/advice/encouragment?

What`s wrong with a good old panatella stogie? Very enjoyable if I might say so myself! Especially with a shot of black sambuca! You should try it sometime!

I think he's realized it has affected his voice. When Priest played here, and they were doing Painkiller, Rob couldnt hit the end "PAINKILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAARRR!!" He cut out on the first try and screamed it three times. I remember seeing them for the first time at Ozfest in 2004.Painkiller was bang on.

One could argue that Lemmy sounds the way he does because of smoking, course he needs lots of Jack and Coke to sooth his throat, I believe he's mediacting himself. Alcohol and tar are obviously great preservatives!
