I don't think in the 80's there were that many bands or metal festivals. I think overall, the metal scene is way better now than before. There is metal in the middle east, metal in China, metal in Indonesia, metal in Africa, metal in South America, metal in Australia, metal in India and they take their metal seriously. In fact I constantly listen to metal bands that are not north american because there are very few good bands besides the ones that already existed in the 80's or the 70's.

To answer the question, imo:  'yes'.

"The '80's", was a cool decade...  especially for music and the industry (video) and how it kind of represented a music rebellion.

But, if I have to explain it -- you wouldn't understand...
Glad to have been smack-dab in-the-middle-of-it!

Well, good metal has always been around even in the 90s and nowadays. The 80s were great but metal became so mainstream that it started to become annoying to see bands like Warrant or Poison been called (glam) metal, or bands like Grim Reaper with such a poor talent been considered serious bands. I like the way things are now, at least you dont have so many possers out there.

THe 80's were EXCELLENT kinda of a "NO RULES" applied . . . . Then everything was a free for all no one cared about anything but metal and long hair!!!  I belvieve eveything always comes areound again . . . . a lot of the Metal Bands sound better now . . .  still a few "trustees of modern chemistry" BUT I WANT IT TO COME BACK AND MAKE ALL OF THE OTHER CRAP GO AWAY.  By the way I still believe in Metal and Long Hair.
[EriktheRed9] Tuesday, July 29, 2008 3:24:09 PM
The 80's ruled and it was the long haired whiteboy who took the pentatonic blues scale and mastered it and it was the long haired whiteboy that founded heavy metal and it was the short haired chump that killed the world with their evil.
[Phantom A6] Tuesday, July 29, 2008 3:48:07 AM
Hi Michael,

Definitly the best era of pretty damned good
Heavy "Fucking" Metal. And every band of this
era made the all-time-greatest albums ever.
OK, I like many of the new stuff but all this material
must to go to be legend (in twenty years?).
The 80th are legend.

My favs of this era are:

- Judas Priest
- Iron Maiden
- Saxon (the earlier years 'til "Innocense is no excuse")
- Warlock ('til "Triumph and agony")
- Accept ('til "Russian roulette")
- U.D.O
- AC/DC ('til "Back in black")
- Victory/Fargo
- Kiss ('til "Creatures of the night")
- Ratt ("Out of the cellar" and "Invasion of your privacy")
- Blacklace ("Unlaced")
- Def Leppard ('til "Hysteria")
- Krokus
- Killer (the "Killer" from Switzerland not from Belgium)
- Trust ("Repression" include "Antisocial")
- Headpins (from Canada)
- Tygers of Pan Tang ("Wyld catz")
[sweatysock] Sunday, July 27, 2008 8:10:50 AM
Definitely the 80's was best era for metal for me. All the classic bands around and at their very best. Can't get into the thrash metal scene. Not knocking those who do, but not for me.

80's metal has to be some of the best!! Most of them are still playing shows albeit in smaller venues, but they are still out there rockin'  Let's here it for the fans of that era !!

100% agree !  I'd even put all the "hair metal" bands up against todays groups. There are no real, new musicians out there today.  And don't even try to come to the table with all that Eastern Euro death metal crap.  It's nothing but punk on steroids.  If I can't understand what the hell your saying, you aren't getting your message across to me.
