Which AC/DC singer do you prefer?

That sounds cool metalmaz...I've never seen AC/DC live before....they are coming to Seattle again this month and I am going to miss them again unfortunately!

But I do agree about Brian Johnson doing some classic albums. I think the 3 best LPs from Brian are "Back In Black"......."For Those About To Rock....We Salute You".....and "Black Ice"

I agree. Whilst the Johnson era has produced a couple of average albums, they have also done some classics. I was lucky enough to see them in London earlier this year. They were fantastic. One of the best gigs I've been to

What a find Brian was after Bon died. They really were blessed to find him. They both had/have their place. Can't really say which I like better. I'm more familiar with the older Bon Scott songs but love all the AC/DC stuff. Hell, it might be cause my last name is Young. Actually, it's because of love metal.

I personally have to say that Bon Scott era of AC/DC was the best,....albums like "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"...."High Voltage"....."Let There Be Rock"........"Powerage"......."Highway To Hell".....but I get sick and tired of too many people slagging Brian Johnson all the time.

This guy has done albums like "Back In Black"........"For Those About To Rock We Salute You"........."Flick Of The Switch"............."Blow Up Your Video"..........and "Black Ice"..........So even though the albums and vocalist in Bon was AC/DC at thier best, those albums with Brian Johnson were top notch AC/DC albums in thier own right.

Brian Johnson  "Saved" AC/DC ....how difficult it was to replace a legend like Bon Scott and Brian Johnson did one hell of a job and is not too far off of Bon's greatness.

I think that essentially why ACDC is such a well known band or so famous is because it has a double legacy, all in one band. It's very rare that you can replace the singer and still be that good. Bon Scott was more Rock N' Roll, Bryan Johnson is classic to hard rock. Personally I prefer Bryan Johnson because he's one of my vocal influences (As well as Axl Rose, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne & Dave Coverdale). His voice has not only the high pitch but a gritty sound to it.

Bon I can understand and DO NOT LIKe when I cannot understand the singer

Pip, very well put!

in my opinion you cant just pick one, they both had something different to offer. but if this was picking who had better pronuciation i would go for Bon, first time i heard thunderstruck i was like "what the hell did he just say??" lol

I like them both equally--they each brought something different to ACDC--I wish Bon would've lived longer to see what else he could've done with the band --may he rest in peace
The Back In Black album was so fitting --kinda liked a tribute to Bon

this is similar to my old threadI would go with Bon anyday. He sounded better, looked better, and was a better frontman

Of course I go with Bon, but Brian never made me not want to see them or buy their albums...love'em both...sorry the only reason we know Brian is because of Bon's death, the band could of picked worse...hat's off to both of 'em
[douggernaut] Saturday, May 16, 2009 10:12:28 AM

Scott was a  hard act to follow but I think Johnson lived up to it. I enjoy listening to both. It's like 2 great bands in one!

Defenately Scott. It's a shame that he had to die so young...The Priest, Maiden, AC/DC were the idols of our teenage years, and the news of Bon's death made us very sad. Brian Johnson is O.K. also, but not the same quality.

Powerage is definately my favourite album of the Bon Scott years.

I could not agree with you more. Bon is one of the greatest front men of all time.
[scorpion01] Thursday, May 14, 2009 1:32:17 PM

I GIVE HIM CREDIT. I LIKE AC/DC WITH BIRAN A LOT.  ANYONE WHO GETS UP IN ANY BAND AND BECOMES AS POPULAR AS AC/DC DESERVES CEDIT.  BUT BON SCOTT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST LEAD VOCALISTS EVER. HE HAD CHARACTER, CARISMA, A VERY ORIGINAL VOICE, AND IT JUST WORKED.

Brian is great too, give him some credit.
[scorpion01] Thursday, May 14, 2009 12:54:17 PM

NOT EVEN CLOSE. BON SCOTT WAS SO MUCH MORE CREATIVE AND ORIGINAL WITH IS SINGING. BRIAN JOHNSON SCREAMS AND YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND HALF THE WORDS.  LISTEN TO THE POWERAGE ALBUM, SO UNDERRATED.  DOWN PAYMENT BLUES, KICKED IN THE TEETH. THE HEART AND SOUL HE PUT INTO IT. NOT AS COMMERCIAL SOUNDING AS BRIAN JOHNSON AC/DC, BUT SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER.  I LOVE  THE ADLIBS BON PUT IN BETWEEN THE LYRICS.

[jimmyjames] Thursday, May 14, 2009 6:49:55 AM
I reckon they are both great.

Last comment was a bit harsh - but i remember Brian from ealy '70's in Geordie...hear him talk and u would never think that was his voice singing (kinda 'falsetto') . Bon i saw live with AC/DC in '77 and '78  (the glory years to me) - will never forget it. (Plus he was a Scotsman too....hehe)
[ATSAU1] Friday, May 08, 2009 6:01:39 PM
If you want the answer to this Question.......go rent AC/DC the Bon Scott Years....... Bon was the man.....I met him backstage when they  warmed up for UFO on the If You Want Blood You Got It Tour....... He was a hell of alot of fun...... Some guy handed him a joint and said "Bon can you sign this for me?" and Bon said " No.....But I sure Can Smoke it!!!"  He was a great guy and a great Front man!!!! While Brian Johnson was good he is no where near the front man Bon Scott was........
[Soylentgreen4u] Friday, May 08, 2009 3:05:36 PM
BON ALL THE WAY FOR ME.....HIGHWAY TO HELL ...MY FAVOURITE...
[Bazookajoe_666] Thursday, May 07, 2009 11:47:11 AM
I never understood people that say it was a bad move for them to hire a singer that sounded exactly the same, it makes me wonder if they've ever listened to ACDC.

Brian and Bon sound nothing a like. Bring screams his balls off all the time is quite bluesy and gritty. Bon on the other hand, barely ever raised his voice and had sort of talked his way through songs. Both are amazing for sure but I haven't really heard enough of the albums to pick one.
[Necroticist] Thursday, May 07, 2009 3:55:54 AM
Dumb thread - Brian could never sing fer shit....
[spapad] Thursday, May 07, 2009 12:12:40 AM
I usually dont comment on anything AC/DC but as much as I morned Bon when he died, the music kept going and Brian Johnson does have the voice that took AC/DC further, Bon did not have his range. He was excellent with his personality and abiltiy to work a crowd, but he did not have the vocal pressence BJ has.
Let's face it. Bon Died in February of 1980, he had been with AC/DC since 1972. Brian Johnson Joined the band a year later, if that, and with BJ the made their opus hit Back in Black.  72 to 80 Bon Scott 12 years. 81 to 2009 Brian Johnson, 28 years. Give the man some respect and give a good nod to the dead.

[CountessErzebethBathory9] Wednesday, May 06, 2009 10:50:59 AM

Its Bon Scott that i luved ...cos he wasnt afraid to be crazy on stage...
For Brian..hes more reserved to me...But each of them are great...different voices, their trade marks...

[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Wednesday, May 06, 2009 10:44:38 AM
Bon Scott is my favorite. I only wish that I'd been old enough to see AC/DC with Bon as the front man. That must have been incredible!!
[blackshadow] Wednesday, May 06, 2009 5:07:05 AM
Don't get me wrong, I like the Brian Johnson era. I love Black Ice great album, but the true voice of AC/DC will always be Bon Scott.   R.I.P Bon Scott
[icecreamman] Tuesday, May 05, 2009 12:41:33 PM
I am personally a Bon Scott guy, Brian cool too, but he is just not Bon.
