Sux, eh? I came across the same thing last night. Those copies are all over eBay. Made me scratch my head and look it up as well. Were it not for those great magnets, I'd cancel my order! lol
Seriously, though. It would have been nice to mention something to the core fanbase here.
I just spotted a two-CD Single Cuts release at a local department store. At a closer look, it contained only the A-sides of all the 1977-1992 singles. It had all Sony/Columbia markings on it so I presume it's an official release.
What bothers me more about this is that there's not a single word about a 2CD release in this site's news...
E: Yup, it's on Sony Music's "New Releases: Week 34". Released on 24th August, a day before the Box was originally supposed to come out.

How many people here are guilty of downloading? *(everyone is raising their hands) Just kidding. Seriously I kinda thought the idea of this boxset is pretty kool. Look how many times KISS put out a greatest hits or Iron Maiden. Priest haven't exactly bastardised their name just yet. Let's just enjoy the fact that they're putting something out before the new album.
Think about it: ever since Jugulator they've put out a live album in between each studio one with the exception of Angel of Retribution and Nostradamus. Touch of Evil-live was what, almost two years ago. Do you want another live album or another knock-off compilation..... or would you rather get something just a tad bit different.... a greatest hits of the singles with the original singles arrtwork? To me that's worth it.

Ha,yes Becks there is no need to listen to that pile of crap Iron Maiden calls an album, trust me your not missing anything here but the same ole' boring drawn out bullshit that Steve Harris writes and makes the other guys in the band like it or they will be kicked out...neah your not missing anything. The Final Frontier is a watered down self indulgent egotistical folk rock album with a shitty album cover to match it.
Saxon's Call To Arms will be released June 14th I think so it will be available after then ect... The last heavy metal album besides Saxon that was better than this album was 1990's Painkiller.
Yeah I think the point of these box sets is that they are for collectors - your every day fan is certainly not going to buy it lol. The artwork is cool, I agree LOL I still haven't listened to all of Final Frontier, I'm just not that in to Maiden to be honest. Pre-1990 Maiden, yes, post 1990? Nah. From 2004 till now Priest has released only 2 studio albums while Saxon has released 4 of them, they don't give the fans a chance to get angry waiting for new material and that with sticking to the same formula has givin Saxon the best albums of thier career while Priest and Maiden is like pulling teeth to get a release from them....Maiden's took 4 long years(2006-2010) and it turned out like crap. I just can't wait for this new release from Judas Priest,I think it will be the last studio album of thier career,I really mean that as I don't think they have more than 1 studio album left in them,so lets hope its a good one.
Also...the only thing cool about the box set is the metallic hands grasping the Priest cross,is it the Painkiller or the Angel Of Retribution or a new mystical being? Who knows but thats the only cool thing about it.....makes us itch for a new album art work!!!

other than 9 of the songs being live, I have all the songs, and if it all runs true to form I probably have the live versions anyway.
for $100 (asuming canada gets the USA pricing I didnt notice price before) its a damn pricy paperweight.
You would have to say that the classic Priest line-up included Dave Holland. He was the drummer when they were at the peak of their success and played on more classic albums than anyone else. Binks played on three classic albums and Travis has only played on one. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Brian_Evans from Thursday, May 26, 2011 5:08:54 PM)

AWESOME THAT THEY HAVE ROCKA ROLLA AND SAD WINGS OF DESTINY BACK.
All five members of JUDAS PRIEST — Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Ian Hill, Scott Travis, and the band's latest addition, 31-year-old guitarist Richie Faulkner (LAUREN HARRIS, DIRTY DEEDS) — took part in a press conference this afternoon (Tuesday, May 24) at the Renaissance Hotel at Highland and Hollywood in Los Angeles to answer questions about the upcoming "Epitaph" U.S. tour and to formally introduce Faulkner. During the event, it was revealed that JUDAS PRIEST will release the "Single Cuts" CD-singles box set and the "Classic Albums Collection" later this year containing the following material:
1. "Single Cuts" CD-singles box set:
* The complete U.K. CBS/Columbia singles from 1977-2008 featuring all 7" and 12" tracks.
* All singles will carry original artwork.
* This box will only be available online and sold through the official JUDAS PRIEST web site.
* Fans can pre-order the box starting in June; the product will ship later in the summer.
2. The "Classic Albums Collection":
* Timed for the start of the U.S. tour
* Box set featuring all the albums from the classic lineup years, including first two Gull records
* Includes 17 albums (19 discs in total)
* All remastered albums with original artwork
Hopefully they'll release the complete singles and not just the lead tracks, because then we'd get a live version of Evil Fantasies, full version of Freewheel Burning (with extended intro) and a lot of other rarities!
I also wonder how much they had to pay to Gull for those first two albums...

the singles collection will include all 7 & 12 inch releases so there will probably be some rare stuff in there
some of those 12 inch maxi singles didn't get a very wide release and are kinda rare

If you read the entire press conference coverage, Rob himself said that several tracks are completely done and ready to be released, and the new album will be released next year. They're also thinking of playing a new song or two on the tour coming up.

So it looks like the NEW (2) box sets are singles and albums.
Basically if I read it correctly, just the singles (Breaking the Law, Turbo Lover, Ect...) will be released and then the entire collection remastered.
But nothing new and no new stuff!?!?!??!!
Same ol released items.
