That's tough one. No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith was the first Metal vinyl album I ever bought when it first came out and that was before I bought any of Maiden's stuff. But I just seemed to get into Maiden in a much bigger way especially from Beast through to Seventh Son. HUGE Maiden follower back then. Then I lost interest until Dickinson and Smith returned. I'm only now getting back into Motorhead and rediscovering the back catalogue and the most recent run of albums are awesome. I'd have to pick Maiden over Motorhead but I love 'em both:).

I am a greater fan of Maiden than Motorhead because of the same reason of listening to them longer time than to Motorhead.
They have released great albums time after time. Musically, always awesome. Good lyrics, awesome music.

Wow what a topic? If there wasnt a Motorhead would there be a Maiden? But if it were not for Maiden would Metal have been as big? Damn I have to have BOTH!

Got tickets to see Maiden this weekend. Saw them a couple of years ago when they played the whole of "matter of life and death" which was too much for me as it turned out. Looks like the set  list for this year, if what I've read is accurate, is going to feature songs mainly from their last few albums including Final frontier which I lost interest in after one listen. Looks like it's going to be a lonnnnng night again!

At least if Motorhead play a couple of tracks you don't like they don't take up half the show time.

I prefer Motörhead, and Iron Maiden tend to get a little too repetitive for my taste.

I absolutely disagree. Maiden does not "rock hard" with studio albums these days. The last "rocking hard" album Iron Maiden has done was 1984's Powerslave. And thats the problem...they are too intelligent and it shows by the ridiculous progression every lame studio album has these last 26 years.

I haven't listened to both bands too much but I must say Iron Maiden. They both rock pretty hard, but Lemmy's vocals got old to me after a while, his voice jsut kind of sounds like the same thing. Bruce is a great singer, I also find Maiden to be more intelligent.

why not both?, they both rock it hard,, however, maiden does do it with more clearity and finess,  but motorhead has that raw in your face kick your ass slap you in the chops to wake you up sound, you gota love them both man , they both truely define HEAVY METAL

I like both bands and i have seen both live but when  it comes down to it Maiden are the better band...No contest.

Maiden are more consistent and have sold many more  albums.
Maiden could headline any major fest in the world..Motorhead could not but i still like em.
