I am sick of people comparing every Priest album to Painkiller.

I'm glad you guys chimed in on this one. I was going to but didn't want to be the only one.
That comment is ridiculous unless you want to be a fanboy. Sorry, but that's not in my blood.
I know I like Priest as much as anybody but I'll criticize if I believe it's warranted.
If I don't like it then I don't like it, Priest or not. Hell, they probably don't like everything they've
done.

I guess i am not a true fan eventho i spent tons and tons of cash on Priest over the years buying albums, tapes,cd's remastered cd's etc etc!
But because i don't LOVE every album i am not a true fan!
Where is the definition of a true fan written so that i can read it!
Thanks!

The PAINKILLER album is amazing too.
A true fan loves every JUDAS PRIEST album and doesn't produce ridicolous conceptions, theories
against THE MUSIC.
But, lots of guy "cry" for a PAINKILLER "chapter two".And i agree with them.Yes.
Why?  IMO:  Media cannot ignore or underestimate a PAINKILLER "chapter two"
This means a  extremely big success(popularity, money etc.)  for JUDAS PRIEST.

Hey Metalman, try to check out a video of the Dortmund Festival from 1983. I think Priest was at
their peak on that one. I don't know that they've been better since. just an opinion though. (only matters to me)

I watched a bootleg dvd of the Painkiller tour (Middletown, NY) last night.  And that has to be the best concert I've ever seen. Priest was at their best , the crowd was going crazy and Halford was AMAZING. I forgot how good that tour was and it's hard to believe it was 20 years ago !

I disagree. I didn't appreciate Blood Red Skies in the Epitaph tour date I attended, but I really appreciated Painkiller. Rob has always sung Painkiller with an acid vocal "compression" that makes the difference and allows him to keep the song near to the original even in recent times. High clear lines such BRS ones are obviously more difficult to manage. Rob confirmed it himself in a That Metal Show episode, when he said that Painkiller is one of the easiest song to sing alive in the whole Priest repertoire because it goes “into a register that’s pretty uniform”, while the toughest ones require “control on breath like Beyond the Realms of Death, i.e.”.

More, I found Rob's voice really great in this tour in an absolute sense, to be honest. Performances on many songs such as Victim of Changes and Beyond itself were totally amazing (and I tought it after a few quiet re-listening, not because of the emotion of the moment).

To be back in topic, I’m tired of people comparing every Priest album to Painkiller as well. :)

When he sings it these days he sounds like bobcat giving birth to an extremely big, sharp cub.

Glad i am not on my own with this lol

I told a friend of mine how naff i thought the intro to  BRS sounded at the recent Priest show we went to.
He said it sounde fine to him so i played him a video taken from that show and he was shocked!! cus he was at the front and 'Buzzin' about seeing the band
he didn't take it all in.

I think someone may have mentioned it to Rob as i have seen another live snip of BRS and he sings the intro an octave lower which is sensible, he should do the same for Painkiller. It doesn't bother me
that he can't always hit those hight notes anymore, he is almost 60 !!

Yes I agree. I find it hard to belive they chose tracks that he can't sing anymore, yes I still do like seeing a track like Blood Red Skies in the set list but lets face it,he can't sing it in a high pitch anymore and same with Painkiller. Like I told Hellrider,I'd be fine with him just not singing in high range anymore even on the new studio LP,it would be fine with me.

Hellrider and countless others say he can still hit those high notes but its extremely far and few between. On the Rising In The East he hit a few notes for a brief few seconds but other than that there are no videos of him hitting these kinds of high notes. I think when people hear him live they are so excited about being there and how loud it is doesn't give the listener a real chance to sit back and hear what they are hearing.

Blood Red Skies is painful to listen to live and wish they would drop it from the set list. I wish they would chose songs Rob can "actually sing these days".

I think if Halford would just tone it down a bit throughout the song and quit trying to sing it like the original, let out a few good quality screams at the end it would be a much better live performance. I think the track would be just fine that way. He just trys too hard to match the original. Rob ...are you listeneing?

I loooove Painkiller but (i know i will get stick for this ) i wish JP wouldn't play it live anymore.
I think Rob finds it hard to sing that song now and when i saw em recently it sounded a bit naff (blood red skies was another that didn't sound great ) and as thay have played it at every gig they have done since 1990
i would have liked it to have been taken out of the set for the current tour. They have an army of songs to choose from that would satisfy the Priest fans.

Ok everyone...kick my ass! but i am being honest.
