Sick guitar work by Van Halen.

So true. Also, you sat all the way through St. Anger?
I've never done it. If I want to listen to that I watch the DVD.
It sounds better. I think that album has some pretty heavy music, it's just the
god-awful production that literally sickens me when I (try) to listen to it. I saw
them on that tour and thank goodness they only played 1 song from it. Actually,
it was the Summer Sanitarium Tour but that was their latest LP at the time.

It doesn't exist. I've never met them. I did see them though, unfortunately it was without Dave.
It was their first tour with Sammy Hagar. Monsters of Rock Tour 1988. Badass concert.
Van Halen
Scorpions
Metallica
Dokken

I'd say by 78 or 79 it wouldn't take much to blow Sabbath off the stage. Ozzy Osbourne would have been blown away before he got anywhere near the stage.

Hey here's a challenge. Put on VH3 with Cherone and see if you can sit through the whole album without turning it off. It's a test of willpower. A couple of months ago I sat there and listened to St Anger right through. That was tough.

Now where's the shot with you and Van Halen?

I have all the albums, even Van Halen 3 with Gary Cherone. I like some of it. lol! I would consider the first four albums heavy metal but thats just my opinion. I've heard people say they blew Sabbath off the stage during that tour.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jimmyjames from Sunday, May 02, 2010 6:42:00 PM)

Van Halen to me is just this kind of dorky 80s party music. I know EVH is one of the best ever and they sold millions of albums. I have most of the Roth albums but I haven't really listened to them in the last 15 years. I just find 90% their songs meaningless and stupid. And they're definately not metal, don't know how they got that gig supporting Sabbath in the late 70s, Snowblind vs Dance The Night Away, what a contrast. Weird.

Maybe Cherone knocked Alex in the head during one of those out of control moves he makes. Looks like he has on a neck brace.

This video is crap quality but excellent Van Halen.

Brian, why would you do that?(LOL)  You should have put that in the crappiest album thread.
That would rival  Ron's posts there. I thought I hated Gary Cherone, now I'm positive.

He's shocking. I think Van Halen are a joke now and have been for a long time. Why is Alex Van Halen dressed like The Mummy?

Here's one for JIMMYJAMES.

One of my favourite small venue concerts was Sammy Hagar - about a week before I saw my first Judas Priest concert (Hell Bent for Leather tour) - and Hagar has some great work behind him (Montrose and early solo) but Diamond Dave is Van Halen.

DAVID LEE ROTH
[FreakyMetalHead] Monday, January 18, 2010 7:54:34 PM
Wow....and all this time I thought that guy was Ted Danson.
[jimmyjames] Monday, January 18, 2010 5:09:15 PM
Also at about 2.17 after rolling down the stairs Cherone trips over backwards and the security guy has to catch him. This could possibly be the most embarrasing minute or so in music history. Gary Cherone = Tool.
[jimmyjames] Monday, January 18, 2010 3:21:44 PM
Not sure but at 2.38 Gary lies down on the stage and looks as though he's ready for Eddie to bone him.
