well, the latest gang shooting in Calgary was between 2 gangs from ottawa. of course they are probably imigrants who went to ottawa before learning there is more cash here. we should deport all criminals who are in the process of or have imigrated here in the last 2 years. just kick them out. no serving a sentance, send them home. I know lots of imigrants who are decent hard working people, thats the ones we need to keep. And, d'ya remember recently...? Some MP got in 'hot-water' for saying it like it is, but everyone has to be so PC these days that it's getting absurd. He said, "Well, look around. Most of the crimes being committed are not being committed by the kid who grew up next door." Ouch. But, it's kind of true... more gangs in our cities that are not Canadian...
Can't even tell the truth these days. | | Head banger wrote: | | I dont mind people doing all kinds of things, speaking what they want, but when I have to pay to have some damn govt form translated, thats crap. if I have to fund their traditions, they must not mean much. if it did, they would fund it. and if their traditions include threatening the police with a machette, then get used to trial by glock. otherwise, go somewhere beter.
with all the bitching their must be places beter. | | WhiskeyWoman wrote: | | Morning HB... Sorry to hear of your plight last night. Nyquil is too chemical for me... (like to keep it natural) -- from a can (no shit). Call me...
Just commenting on your 'please speak English' subject that touches on others that we deal with here in Canada where a lot of our laws have been 'modified', to accommodate other cultures -- which should be a good thing. But, when 'guests' come to this country demanding and expecting us to change our ways for them, it turns into something else.
A few years ago, Australia caught all kinds of flak when the Prime Minister issued a statement that (loosely) said... (I've since lost the emailed speech in some pc crash, so maybe our Aussie friend's can chime in) ...
"This is our country, we will respect your cultures and religions, but you must respect ours first. Basically, if you don't like it here, the way it is, another freedom we have -- is the right to leave." lol...

yes, english would be nice. I read that criminals in the states (and here too) have the right to have their trial translated into their own language. OK, shouldnt be much of an issue. then I read that 37 states employ translators for Klingon. WTF? what are the odds that someone who can speak Klingon a) found their way oyut of mommys basement to comit said crime, and b) doesnt speak english also? | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | All very valid points, HB. I agree with you. I realize it will not happen but it certainly should. I am also against drivers that cannot read the language of the realm. If you live here, speak English (how ever poorly) and read it as well. As for credit, let's just say that I abhor it. I loath it. It is the single most common factor in financial destruction. I should probably stop as I will get on another rant. | | Head banger wrote: | | Ah, but then we would also need to test peoples knowledge and inteligence for such things as having children, serving on a jury. perhaps also we could give a decent test of thoughts for credit. no, lets not get into credit. or driving, where do these fools get their licences, a crackerjack box? we should periodicaly re test them too. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | I have made it a point to remain quiet regarding politics since my return. As we get closer to November, the rhetoric gets worse and facts become blurred by nonsense and pointless argument.
The truly unfortunate fact of the matter is the public at large are the "morons", not the candidiates. The political folks simply do what they do. It is really up to the people to think about what they are doing and cast a vote accordingly. Worse, the majority of the voting public would not know an issue from a tissue and would wipe their collective butts with it ( to borrow loosely from Lou Reed)
It has long been my opinion that NO ONE under thirty should be allowed to vote. (I realize the younger crowd on the Board are lighting the barbeque now to roast me) Quite frankly, EVERYONE should have to pass a civics exam prior to getting a voting card. The public, in general, have NO idea what they are doing, which is why the likes of an Obama or a Hillary get a chance in the first place. There, I said it.
The system is not going to change. The word change has been tossed about all election long, like there is suddenly this revelation among the population, courtesy of some clown campaigning for office, and they all suddenly 'get it' and will forge bravely into a new future. Bah!! Not going to happen. The change is NOT needed in government, it is needed in the public. That is where the problem is and will continue to be. Edited at: Monday, October 13, 2008 8:01:17 AM |
