Very well said, Ron. Not too sure I can improve on that.
You see, I come from a time when we were taught team sport. There was no such thing as a trophy just for showing up and, if you were not good enough, you did not make the team. It did not matter what your parent thought or what some kiddie psychologigst said. If you were no good, you were no good and needed to find something else to do. Coaches taught us how to play together , to support one another. We were there to win and we knew that it would take all parts, working in unison, to achieve our objective not one guy doing it all while we admired him.

Of course there was the standout. The great player that would carry us through the tough times and gain the big yards or get the key hit when we needed it but other teams knew that as well and played to stop that particular player. At one time or another, I was actually that guy!!  Again, as a team, we could adjust to their folly and win the day. I will say this, in the entire time that I played sport, from school days right through adulthood, I never performed some stupid "victory dance" or acted out some moronic skit on the field of play. Never. Nor did any of my teammates. It was just not done. There is a certain dignity in being  a winner and moreso in being very good at what you do. I have never needed to remind anyone on the field of my ability by acting foolish. My play spoke quite loudly.
