Probably going to catch flak for this, but ...
We were pretty excited to see Metallica in Calgary on Friday night, but were bitterly disappointed. Now, I'm no rookie when it comes to concerts, as that was my 45th one -- one for each year I've been alive, and that includes seeing Priest (only) 5 times. But, I am so sorry to say Metallica sucked.
Their set-up to sell *all* the seats, with no back-stage and play closer to the middle of the arena must have had something to do with absolutely terrible sound quality, and they played a shitty, shitty, set-list. Don't know if it was b/c it was their second night of sold-out shows in town, but it was NOT good.
Maybe Hetfield needs to start drinking again, to get some inspiration. There was no 'style', no cohesiveness in their show. It was just separate guys doing their thing. It lacked something important. I wanted to be "wowed", believe me, I did ... But when people left during the first song of their "encore", I guess I was not the only one who may have felt that way. I was just kind of shocked.
We came out to the RV and cranked JP for all to hear how it was supposed to be done -- and to feed our unsatisfied souls with real music. I just can't think of the last time we were that disappointed with a band's performance.
Judas Priest raises the bar, and has spoiled me for any other metal band. Colley asked me to quote him as saying, "The more bands I see, the better Priest is."
Ok, now you can let the rotten tomatoes fly ... Sorry. |
