Aaaarrgghh. All of this is Greek to me! HA!!
HB, I never considered Ozzy a "great" singer, in the mold of a Dio. He was distinctive, certainly. As for his onstage "moves", he was no dancer! (He may be a lover, but he aint no dancer....HA!) He always had kind of a stumbling, mechanical way of moving. VERY "white", if you will. Not really graceful, if you ask me. Now, Freddie Mercury had moves! WOW! That guy was graceful! Heck, even Axl Rose could move some! HA!!!!!!!!!!! DF, was ozzy a great singer back in the day. I was impressed that he seemed coherant, jumped around a lot and got the words right. his vocal abilities didnt impress me much. but I didnt think he could move like that. he is no match for Dio though. Rob Halford has to be on his best day to compare. | | _strat_ wrote: | | Lol. Well, he is short, you cant deny that. I saw an interwiev with him once where he was surrounded by his bandmates from DIO. The rest of them were somewhere of a normal height, just Ronnie was down there like a child. And he has that mischevious, impish look as well.
But that aside, I said it before and I say it again, an awesome singer. His singing really sends shivers down my spine. AND he is good lyricist as well. Theres a song on the Black Sabbath: The Dio years album (a great album, worth every cent) that starts with "One fine day... In hell". How could I possibly not like that? Or lines like "shadow in the dark"? Thats metal! Not singing about chicks or partying. Thats just pop with guitar solos, as far as Im concerned. Dungeons and dragons, swords and sorcery. Thats metal for me!
Now, you can say Im a geek, because quite frankly... I am. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | His voice is distinctive, no doubt. He was a very good entertainer. I loved his shows. I have been to probably eight or nine of them. Like I said, he has simply abused his body to the point where he is hardly a living human being! All his mumbling, shuffling and confusion are NOT a joke.
As for Dio...a gnome?!?!? HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!! That is TOO funny! He certainly is "ol iron lung", that's for sure! I do not think a cage could hold him! HA!!!!!!!! | | _strat_ wrote: | | Mhm. Dio is the little man with the huge voice. He looks really cool too. Kinda like a little gnome that I would keep locked in a cage in my house to do my bidding...
As for Ozzy, what I was refering to is that his voice has character. IDK what an entertainer he is, because I never seen him live. But Iron Man doesnt sound the same without Ozzy. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Dio is great. A real vocal talent. Ozzy was good when he was at his best but he is no Dio. He is no Halford, either. Still, as far as being an "entertainer", you have a point. THAT he is! Of course, so is David Lee Roth. I never thought much of him vocally BUT he can work a crowd. Remarkable entertainer. | | _strat_ wrote: | | Well, IDK, I was never much of a singer, but in Ozzies case I think that there never was much talent behind it. Just character.
As for R.J. Dio, that is another thing. One of my favourite singers of all time, and Id dare say that I prefer him over Halford sometimes. Glad to hear he can still pull it off. |
