come to north america, you need an act of god, or a special order most of the time to get a manual trans. last car I bought, I searched for months to find one that was 4 dr, with air, abs and a stick. I had 16K, and it was in 98, one would have thought I could find one easily, but no. settled for a ford contour (mondeo to you). was ok, not the best.
I miss driving a stick. I'm only 5ft 4" just for the record. If i drove an auto it would be a different story.... But i have mastered the art of eating, singing, drinking, playing with the CD player and yelling abuse out the car window..... bwahahaha!! All from my days as a Pizza delivery driver.... I should list these skills on my resume.. hmmm | | Darth_Painkiller_0870 wrote: | | I thought the routine of driving with your knees was strictly a North American thing? Don't forget, people have been known to read the newspaper while in traffic too. | | Head banger wrote: | | you mean you cant drive with your knees? most people I see driving to work are managing a cell phone, cofee, some form of breakfast food, and shaving or aplying makeup. of course we are all driving automatics, but they rarely manage a hand near the wheel. | | devils_child wrote: | | Easy! Jousting pole out the drivers side window, left hand on gear stick, feet on the pedals.... just hope to God my wheel alignment is in good shape cos i won't be able to stear whilst changing gears..... | | _strat_ wrote: | | Ah, the good old days... When speeding was punished with decapitation. I wonder how they handled horses "exhaust fumes", tho.
Might add that I would love to see how you could joust and change gears at the same time... | | devils_child wrote: | | Oh yeah i knew it!!! I payed attention in school....
"About a quarter of the world drives on the left, and the countries that do are mostly old British colonies. This strange quirk perplexes the rest of the world; but there is a perfectly good reason.
In the past, almost everybody travelled on the left side of the road because that was the most sensible option for feudal, violent societies. Since most people are right-handed, swordsmen preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an opponent and their scabbard further from him. Moreover, it reduced the chance of the scabbard (worn on the left) hitting other people.
Furthermore, a right-handed person finds it easier to mount a horse from the left side of the horse, and it would be very difficult to do otherwise if wearing a sword (which would be worn on the left). It is safer to mount and dismount towards the side of the road, rather than in the middle of traffic, so if one mounts on the left, then the horse should be ridden on the left side of the road."
Class dismissed!!! Mwahahahaha!! -Might add that if i feel the need to joust in traffic i'm in a better position...! | | devils_child wrote: | | I remain defiant!!! I do believe passing on the left hand side originated in England, Prior to the settlement of America... don't quote me on that but it was in the horse and cart days - LOL. I must do some research to back this up.... | | Darth_Painkiller_0870 wrote: | | DC, sorry to disappoint you, but cars were invented in the USA and we say you, England, Japan (and I think Germany) all drive on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD! We invented the f***er...we make the rules. LOL! Anymore pouting about driving on the wrong side of the road will get you 20 lashes! | | devils_child wrote: | | Annex my country???? But Darth, I thought you loved me the way i was....... And no fricken way am i driving on the wrong side of the road.... The mother country drives on the left and so i shall continue to.... | | Darth_Painkiller_0870 wrote: | | Personally, I think my country should annex Austrailia. You already seem to get a ton of our news (probably even some of the more irrelevant stuff). Think of it as a natural progression. We'll just have to teach you folks to drive on the right side of the road! HA! | | devils_child wrote: | | LOL... you're sick of it?.... Im an Australian and i'm fricken sick of seeing Obama's mug plastered all over my AUSTRALIAN news papers, magazines.... etc. I don't watch the news for this precise reason. It's all full of American politics........... seriously he got first page of the Sunday paper....PLUS a 4 page spread... No offence Americans but he does not run this country, well at least that's what i'd like to believe. Yes, he should get some mention, but he has been all over every form of media in this country of mine for what feels like an eternity now.... I can't imagine what you have to deal with over in the U.S.... it's bad enough here and i am on the other side of the world.... not even in the same hemisphere!!!!!!! You know sometimes i feel that we Australians should have a chance the vote in the American presidential election...... Lord knows we have to deal with the outcomes of it..... | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | No kidding! The TV has been on "Obama Overload" for days! I am sick of it. I mean, good for him. He won an election!. But, as I said before, he has done nothing yet! Certainly NOT worthy of this garbage all over my friggin television day after day! There have been 43 others that have done at least as much (or more). Oh wait, is it because he is black??!?!?! AH!!!! And I thought this was not about race!
The Princess has tried to start that, "Oh you are just bitter" crap with me and I am quick to point out that the election is over. Why is it that I should drool over a man that has not done a thing as president, other than have dark skin color??? WHY? Because he is the first? Whoopee. That is not in the job description and will make NO difference when he actually has to do something. For all of this talk (and it clearly was only talk) that he "transcends" race, he and his sycophants are sure quick to scream about his color! Jeez, it is still on the local stations!
I have been in the position of "losing" the election in my life.I can handle that. I did not vote for Clinton either time! I got over it. Sure enough, for all of his hype, he proved to be just what I thought he was. I truly hope I am wrong about Obama. I want him to do well. It will serve me personally and that is important! But this is just too much. It has reached the point of stupidity. (Quoting Message by Head banger from Tuesday, January 20, 2009 3:02:48 PM)
