It drives me mad too. They say there's a shortage of scientists - BULLSHIT! There's a shortage of science jobs, they do a lot of recruiting internally, but legally they have to advertise.
I highly recommend the military, the Army looks after my husband well, he's got a good super scheme (the old one as it stands now), his pay is reasonable, free medical and dental, so it's all good. Just before he left for Afghanistan he got his two lower wisdom teeth out for free, total for my two last year including a shit load of medicine was around $900 so we end up saving heaps thanks to that. Oh yeah, my husband got two diplomas for free too - electrical engineering and telecommunications. No student loan for him! He had to study the same (3 year course broken up with on the job training etc over 5 years) but didn't have to pay a cent. Lucky poo.
