I dont think bon jovi ever truly believed that they were a metal band or tried to be one. however,since they had long hair,leather fringe jackets and tight jeans, it was easy to lump them in with the metal crowd. magazines like hit parader needed bands like bon jovi to sell copies, so bon jovi became a pseudo metal band by default. bon jovi is simply pop radio rock with guitar solos. i have less respect for def leppard who were clearly metal influenced and now deny and disrespect metal altogether!
