I agree that the slaughter of whales and baby seals is barbaric and when we here see this, we are horrified and appalled. However, the majority of our meat and poultry here in the States is supplied from factory farms, where animals are kept in horrendous conditions, in small cages, often unable to move, living in their own filth and treated purely as "product".. these are sentient creatures who feel pain and terror. We often do not want to REALLY think about where our meat comes from.. it comes from terror and fear. Check out videos on the Mercy for Animals website..People are just conditioned to be emotionally removed from the source of their food..... If we had photos of animals in factory farms placed on our food packaging, would we feel the same way??? One hundred years ago... the majority of our food came from real farms, where animals were allowed to enjoy the open fields and sunlight that large pastureland afforded them. Now... the food industry is big business...our livestock and poultry are nothing but a commodity...I apologize in advance for my comments being on a Metal , but since there was a conversation going on on said topic(s) I was compelled to post. And those puppy mills are pretty much like factory farms. DON'T SHOP....ADOPT!! Shelters are overflowing with wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for a good home.
