Lol, yeah, I heard about that. Not dozen, 16 teams I think, but only four from Europe could be arsed to take the trip. Apparently, our team had to take a ship (since there were no inter-continental flights back then) to Urugvay. They had all the practices aboard, right up until they kicked all the balls into the ocean.

To answer the question, Budred, you heard right. While Becks is right about the Semi's, the reference to the 1930s is also correct. It is the first time since the 1930s that the USA WON ITS WC GROUP! You aren't going deaf or crazy, Bud.
Not to take anything away from them but 1930 was the first official FIFA WC and only a dozen or so countries participated. Still, it was an upset then as well.
