I wasn't actually around at the time so I can't be sure of this, but in the late 80s when contemporaries like Maiden and Def Lep were consolidating their fanbases, Saxon released a couple of truly terrible albums, and kind of dropped off the radar in the UK. They were actually pretty popular before that. They did tour the States because I've read an old review of them- I think it was '83, L.A, Metallica were the support.. neither band got reviewed well however. I don't know how the American public received them- J.D. probably knows.
One place they do seem to be very popular is Germany- They quite often headline festivals there. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by pedro68 from Monday, September 13, 2010 4:14:50 AM) | | pedro68 wrote: | | Sorry J.D ,best i open my eyes when i'm posting lol.
Now back to saxon with both eyes open ha ha.
It is sad that saxon didnt get the recognition that other UK bands of the the day did.
They had the singles and the fan base ,maybe their image was'nt up to par ?
I cant remember Saxon touring the U.S in the 80's,and if they did - did they suit the U.S market
On a positive note - its just good to know their still with us and playing better than ever, cheers
