Melvins were a big influence on a lot of bands in the grunge scene such as Nirvana ( Kurt Cobain tried out for them back in the day but didn't get in ) and also the underground metal scene. They are nothing like Priest / Maiden / Metallica etc and definately not everyones cup of tea. I saw them opening for Fugazi back in about 1997 and they were just awesome live. Last time they were over here that I know of they were opening for Tool in 02. I missed that show but again I heard they were awesome. The great thing about this show is that they are going to be playing at a bar rather than a concert hall so it will be easy access to stage and bar. As for the outfits, who knows, last time I saw them they were wearing jeans and tshirts. Here is High On Fire, the other band on the bill.
Maybe it's just me JJ but they are not fabulous in any way. Good, yes.......I do like the way the drummers keep in time. The outfits look like a band that would play at the Star Trek convention. Feeling only medium to them.

Queens Of The Stone Age are playing in Wellington on the same night as the Melvins/High On Fire gig. We don't get too many bands down here so this scheduling really sucks as I would have gone to both shows if I could. As it happens I already have tix for the Melvins/High On Fire so I will be sticking with that. Still gutted though.
