I only heard the first 30 minutes of the first half of the game on the radio before going to class. *sigh* Oh, well...Germany will have a chance at getting third-place, at least. GO GERMANY! |

Wanna bet a shirt?! LOL! Sorry, non-offer. I don't have a Spanish jersey...only t-shirts.
I say Spain should win to shake their "never won the big one" cloud hanging over their head. They DID outplay the Germans today by a longshot. Curious to see what happens in the final round(s). Anyway, Im rooting for the Dutch in the finals, and for the Germans in the 3rd place match. Its really about time that the Dutch win something, seeing as how many times they played in all sorts of finals, and never won any. The Spanish are already European champions, and thats more than enough.
As for today, the Germans really surprised me, and in a very negative way. I think the problem with these penalties and referees stems from the refs not being qualified to ref at this level. It's fucking ridiculous to have these refs from Japan and this clown from Guatamala reffing these big games. All the refs from the second round onwards should be from the big league, Premiership, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. I've seen it on a number of occasions in this cup where the refs are almost sucking up to the players when there's a dispute about a decision. All smiles etc. The refs have to be tougher on the players. Dives should be ignored or carded and player dissent should not be tolerated. Just send a few guys off and it'll stop.
Sepp Blatter and his cronies won't do anything about bringing in replays. He's to busy accepting kickbacks, screwing high end hookers, staying in posh hotels and getting his ass kissed to actually do any work. |

I think that soccer is the hardest game to introduce it, but it could be done. just as keeping time could be done a lot better. but the earth is flat, resulting in a lack of interest.
hell they could have a couple of additional referees assistants that judged from behind the goal, or on the goal line or something. its a bloody large field for three people to control. While I am happy that Spain won, that was FAR from a "decisive vitctory."
Greater question is WTF is up with the officiating?!? Those penalty kicks were just too much. Hey, FIFA...let's get with the times and get a friggin' CAMERA in there! Not for the small offenses but lives are seriously at stake when you miss a big one.

Great display from Krauts. Argentina had no reply and gave it away second half. Very low key sideline display from Maradona, expected him to be psyched for this one as he has been in previous games but he just looked nervous and failed to provide inspiration. Nothing from Messi, Tevez tried hard, he was the only Argie that fought till the end. Germany were just awesome though.
Spain still looked far from convincing in their game. Fernando Torres should be benched for the semi, he's started every game and done nothing. Paraguay had their best game of the tournament. Unlucky.
They won't be starstruck by the big name players and are used to being in charge on the big stage.

Ok, technology aside and at the risk of sounding like an American bellyacher (which I am not, whomever thought USA would win is a fool...I still stand..albeit tentatively by Spain), FIFA not having to even EXPLAIN why they disallowed the USA goal?!? WTF?!? That is so backassed that it isn't even funny. Call it like you see it, great, but I ask for nothing but a small explanation. Even the umpire who got the call wrong against the baseball player who threw the perfect game apologized. Sincerely, at that. He argues that it is "part of the game" that it will "slow it down?" Look at hockey! Look at tennis! It did neither! I do not advocate reviewing every single infraction but, come on, those big ones? Why can you have two or even three refs discussing the point while keeping the players at a distance so as not to hear their input when all it would take is a "man in the booth?"
Call me stupid. I just don't get it. Sadly, it will probably be as I said: a death to spur some sort of movement there. (Quoting Message by Becks from Saturday, July 03, 2010 2:55:26 PM)

Yeah they really need goal line technology. But I think with Sepp Blatter at the helm it will be difficult to get Fifa to agree on something unfortunately.

I find it bizarre that the only South American team left in the tournament is, in my opinion, the least deserving - Uruguay. Stupid Uruguay. Netherlands smash them!! LOL!

Oh, we shouldnt be too quick on that. Remember that the Dutch have eliminated Brazil. Personaly, I think that Nedherlands vs. Germany is the most likely final, tho of course the Spanish are strong candidates too.
In any case, Im rooting for the Dutch and the Germans in the semi finals (no matter who the Germans will be playing against). As for tonight, I really cant say. I will watch the game, of course, but I dont think I will be rooting for anyone. Yeah, they have to hold out this pressure, and maybe get something from counter attacks.
Lets not forget yesterday, tho. Both teams that took the lead first. then ended up losing. I hope it wont repeat today.
