Brittany looks pretty! And that last pic with the JP cross hanging from the wheel looks awesome!
Better than my dogtag getting mauled by a mini dragon.

Ok, my last trip? San Malo, Brittany (France). Not exactly the first stop anyone would make but damn if it wasn't cool! It was truly a haven for pirates as the tides / rocks and fortifications made it difficult for the English to navigate the bay.

Cooler with the tide-water in. Best be sure you make it back to the wall when it does!

Yeah, there were pirate ships (well, corsaires or privateers, betters said) everywhere! Aaaaargh.

Same ship below.

WARNING, ALL TRAVELERS!

Whatever you do, do NOT travel to San José, California anytime soon. There is currently a plague of mini red-eyed dragons terrorizing the city. It's hard to believe, I know, but I was there this weekend. I've seen it with my own two eyes (four, really). It's something that no normal human being should ever experience in his/her lifetime. It was the nightmare to end all nightmares. Somehow I managed to leave the city yesterday relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, my dog tag wasn't so lucky. One of the tiny little bastards sneaked into my hotel room and decided to chew on it! WHY, OH WHY???

-----------------------------------------

Again, this is a warning to all travelers who are planning to visit San José, CA. Please stay away from the city (especially the downtown area) until further notice, lest you suffer the same fate as my poor dogtag.

Pictures just can't show the enormousness of those waves. Looking for surfers in the normal pictures is like trying to find bacteria without a microscope.
In the one photo before the close up, I actually think I can see a few of them, toward the left had side, either that or you had dust on your scanner. lol

Love the two pictures of the valley taken from the road. You just don't get green that color anywhere but the topics. Beautiful!

No, Bud. Lava is only on the Big Island as it is the newest. O'ahu is one of the oldest. While not lava, it is all dried lava aka. igneous rock. Thus, the pointy mountains and pock-marked / layered rock in just about every picture. On Big Island, most say that you really even need to take a helicopter to have a chance of seeing any molten lava.

Hell, the sand on a lot (most?) of those beaches are not native. It is white sand imported from Australia!

[guidogodoy] Monday, January 17, 2011 11:47:04 PM
Ok, a very select few and pretty much a trip around the outskirts of O'ahu.

Hanauma Bay - Great snorkling. Be smart and bring your own gear.

Lookout point over Honolulu / Waikiki

By North Shore. The valley where they filmed Jurassic Park, the last King Kong + many others. Taken from a moving vehicle as there is no place to stop on this two-laner. Yeah, it is that green and amazing.

"Three Tables." North Shore. Sits between Waimea Bay Beach and the Banzai Pipeline. BIG wave day which is what brought me there. Picture before a round of waves...

and during.

Finally, the famous Banzai Pipeline that has killed or injured more surfers than any other spot on the globe. Look closely, there are surfers in just about all the shots to follow. Hard to see as the sun was setting and those waves were so big. Final digital zoom picks out a few maniacs and puts it into perspective.

I'll take the old fashioned one with the mannual wringer. The place country club I used to work at back in the day had one of those old dinosaurs and they used to to wash the golf balls because those machines NEVER quit.

I think I'll just Never wash any blanket along with bedsheets ever again. Stupid machine.

I would consider using the inventor of this machine, as a counter balance to a off balance machine. No problem with that. I'm sure he could fully appreciate his child lock that wont let him escape.

I'll be looking for Nancy Grace to announce the results of the experiment.

[spapad] Monday, January 17, 2011 7:32:28 PM
It's insane. OK, so it's off balance, I put in on pause open it, and adjust the clothes, instead of attempting to spin again, it starts to fill up again! First time, I've been truly disapointed with this machine. Washing machines are not rocket science! Why do they screw up the one invention that was pretty much straight forward.

I bet they spent the $ used for an "off balance" alarm on the oh-so-useful child lock.

[spapad] Monday, January 17, 2011 7:17:31 PM
Wonder if it's voodoo would work on my new washer?? I just spent and hour and a half attempting to get the damn thing to spin out the load in it. I finally figured out that you can't put any kind of blanket in that absorbs lots of water along with other items. It's autobalance system won't spin it out, you don't get one of those off balance alarms, that would be too convienent. NO, it just quits spining and starts to fill up again to start the whole rinse cycle over again. Dumb! I finally had to remove the offending blanket and spin out the two loads separately, which also means I had to use the only existing spin cycle that I can dial in which is some sort of drain/spin cycle which takes about 15 minutes to complete. So, when I'm finally done, I'll have spent two hours on this and learned something I would rather have not. I knew I should have gotten the Wilma Flintstone edition washing machine.

You know, I heard it was and I drove up to the temple twice (once in a small tour and again having rented a nice Red Mustang Convert. jeje). Just couldn't justify driving all that way when the big waves were hitting Waimea and, especially, the Banzai Pipeline. Watching the sunset while these maniacs were trying to surf some 30 ft rollers was just too cool.

Just for you, Spa! This shot is looking back down Waikiki Beach to Diamond Head Crater. That highest point is where I jumped the rail to take the shot I previously posted.

HRMG - Double the pendant, double the luck! I flew in when a snow/ice storm hit home and came back when the rain / ice was hitting the island!

Bud - I'll post a couple of more but it is hard if you know me. I am both a big shutterbug and into doing major hikes / running. Every other corner is majestic and the whole island is basically volcanic rock. Goes from tropical jungle to the north to urban sprawl around Honolulu / Pearl Harbor / Waikiki to the rock / cactus (no joke...look below) to the south. Ran the route where they filmed Jurassic Park, King Kong, etc., then HAD to stop by the calm bay where they filmed the intro to Fantasy Island. Da plane! Da plane! I'll take a look and put up a few more ASAP, Bud.

I was in awe of the guitars. Talk about a kid in a candy store. They had a ukulele and banjo up on the sea that started on the ceiling and flowed down the wall of the stairs. Almost fell over trying to find them.

No active volcanoes on O'ahu but one of the coolest things I did was hike Diamond Head Crater. Google it to see the aerial view. It is impressive. One shot below is looking down onto Waikiki and the other was over a "do NOT jump the rail" sign looking back into the crater. HA! Putting a sign up like that with one of those cool WWII "pillbox" bunkers within sight on the nearby ridge? That was just calling my name! Funny as I had just watched two other foreigners jump it and decided to follow their route along the ridge. No sooner had I jumped over than a guard came out of nowhere and started calling then whistling as I just played "deaf hiker" walking carefully but quickly, jumped on the "pillbox" for that photo and we all made haste to get back across the ridge and over the guardrail. As some were saying "I don't read English" with heavy German and Dutch accents, I chimed in with a "¡No hablo inglés!"
We all scattered like cucarachas in the light once we got back in the crowd safely behind the rail.

"Had" fun is better said. Got back after one huge day of travel. Particular phrasing of the most isolated island chain. Most (like Wiki) refer to it as "distance from a continent" and it seems to be a pretty unanimous winner. Didn't know it but it was plastered all over O'ahu.

Speaking of which, I got tired of hula music very quickly and decided to make requests. I tells ya, I'll die "Defending."

Actually if you just Google the most isolated islands on Google, Hawaii wont show up. The islands that show up are islands without airports that take several days to get to by boat.
