well, those are heavy metals to be sure, but I was thinking more of sonicly available metal.  that which you can feel and invades from every angle, not just to be ingested.

Yes, I admit J.D., that I do love the variety of the Priest albums. Something for my every mood if you will. But I totally agree with you that we most definitely need Priest to come back with a killer, punch me in the face, British METAL album. And it IS scary, because until we have that little gem in our hands, we won't know what it will be! They need to do it this time around for sure because who knows how much longer they have left in them? I don't really want to think about that, but realistically, how many albums/tours do they have left? I want them to put out an album that shows everyone that Priest is what all metal bands should try to be. I don't want there to be any doubt in anyones mind that Priest still has it and they ARE THE METAL GODS!!

I want a TOTAL RUSH OF POWER HEAVY MEEEEEEEETTTTTTAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL album for Christmas next year!!

And Rob said he's gonna do Halford 4! And possibly another Christmas album , which ISN"T 4, but something different.

Well I think its kinda scarry because the next album is it man,if they don't deliver on the next LP they may never so this one is a nail biter!!!!! We all feel that the band will deliver a killer heavy metal album but at the same time we are all wondring what it will be like!!!!  Hopefully the new LP will be a metal masterpiece man,if it is an in your face british red blooded heavy metal album then I think hellrider will listen to it more times than Jackylone listened to Nostradamus!!!!
Are you with me on this hellrider?? LOL!!!!   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Becks from Tuesday, November 24, 2009 2:32:27 PM)

Yep, Winter Songs was definitely something Rob did cos he wanted to tick it off his bucket list, I agree. I like it, lol.
I'm kind of with JD on the new Priest album thing, I want something that will rip my face off!!! LOL! But, in saying that, I think I will be happy with any new release. It's hard for me to say though, I can't see in to the future LOL! They're getting to the stage in their career/lives that to release any new metal album is an achievement really. We will just have to wait and see what happens lol.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guardian angel from Tuesday, November 24, 2009 10:03:14 AM)

I can't speak for everyone on the forum, but ultimately, I like the variety in their discography.  I do like Nostradamus, but I agree that this would be the time, if ever, for them to put out a serious british metal offering.  I would love to see something along the lines of Defenders of the Faith mixed with Angel of Retribution.  And I don't think the other 4 members of Priest would appreciate being lumped in with the Winter Songs thing.  That was a Halford deal, something Rob wanted to cross off his bucket list.  I just think that doing the British Steel revival tour right after releasing a new album, was bad timing.  I think a short Nostradamus tour to promote their new material and a summer British Steel tour would have made more sense, but hey, I'm not in the music industry, what do I know.   I just hope to hear something awesome before they hang up their axes.

Yeah Hellrider what we are seeing here is our favorite band has been getting soft on us all the way around. 5 long years have passed since Angel of Retribution and all that there is to show for is Nostradamus and Winter Songs. Who knows what kind of mood the band members are in at the time they write the next album? Getting a killer british metal album from these guys is not a "shoe in" at all as we all know, the next LP may turn out like Ram It Down for all we know. But this is what 95% of members on this forum like isn't it?  The all like the fact that they never know what they will get from Judas Priest...could be a Painkiller, could be a Turbo, could be a British Steel, could be a cross between Nostradamus and Winter Songs...thats what almost everybody likes here is the fact that they can't count on one particular style.  "I FUCKING HATE THAT FACT". I am in the 5% that just want METAL.

Exactly Hellrider. But really, the album is EXACTLY what Rob wanted to do as you already know of course.Along with you,I also wish Rob would of released a traditional heavy metal album all the way through with the Halford band, but he chose to do this for this year. This just goes to show that when the christmas season is over and the new year hits....its a count down to see what the band will do next. And hopefully Rob and Priest are hungry for an angry album of Judas Priest styled hellrider styled HEAVY METALLL!! lol! Right?

That's funny you should say that.  TSO was just here and I just bought the cd with Wizards in Winter on it for my obsessed boys!  I've had quite a few listens of Winter Songs now too, and there's one more song on there that reminds me of something else.  It has a similar vibe to Billy Idol's "Yellin' at the Christmas Tree" off of Devil's Playground.  I also have difficulty with the tinkling  from Holy Night.  Maybe some more listens and I'll get over it.   My faves are still Get Into The Spirit and my all time favorite and kick*ss version of We Three Kings.  I wish he sang at my church.  Maybe Rob, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate will do their Three Tremors cd/tour idea one day.  That would be crazy!  Three phenomenal singers together making some beautiful operatic metal.

You know Vail, I felt the same way about Winter Song at first. But after about 3 listens, I started to really like it. I really like the lyrics and it's very heartfelt. I also love Rob's voice. After I got over the fact that this album isn't as metal as I was hoping for, I realized that Rob redid these songs with class, metalled them up as much as he could without losing the original song. I think he did a brilliant job in that respect. All the church hymns he redid I just absolutely love, both the original version and his. If Rob sang these songs in church, you'd find me there!

Okay, just finished listening to Halford 3. First thoughts:

The first three songs were great!! Then it kinda flopped a bit with 'Winter Song'...can't seem to like that one. Although I did like 'What Child is This?' (one of my favorite X-mas songs) and thoroughly enjoyed 'Christmas for Everyone','I Don't Care', 'Holy Night ' (the twinkling sound fx are annoying, though) and 'Come All Ye Faithful'.

So, in a nutshell: It's good...was just hoping for more fast-paced stuff. Hmmm...maybe a few more listens is in order?
[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Saturday, November 21, 2009 10:11:43 PM
I totally agree with you Guido. It has that original Johnny B. Goode sort of style to it which was then "metalled" up. But yeah, the first time I heard it, it totally reminded me of that style of music. Rob said it was his metal Grinch song! And OK, I know a lot of the songs are Christmas hymns, but I absolutely adore Rob's voice on all of them. It just puts a smile on my face everytime I listen to it

Wow that sounds like the perfect metal Christmas!  Quick question, does anyone else out there think that "I Don't Care" off of Winter Songs sounds a lot like Johnny B. Goode off of Ram It Down??  It has a very Turbo and RID feel to it.  Maybe it's just me.

Yeah that is exactly what it is. Never really been a fan of Pantera though just the individuals as musicians. Have you ever seen the live recording of Grinder with Halford fronting Pantera? Awesome stuff, should be on youtube somewhere. Also check out halford with Skid row doing Delivering the Goods my favourite version of the song ever.

I always said Fight was basically Rob's version of Pantera. Thats what it started with anyway, he was heavily into that at the time.

War of Words is rated as a top 5 metal release of the entire 90's.

Oh man Fight, get into them definately. Ressurection got rave reviews and it's one of the best metal albums in the world no argument there but War of Words is on par with that, it's thrash but not Slayer thrash more Megadeth but far far better. Honestly if you want a taster first listen to 'Into the Pit', 'Contortion', the title track or from the 2nd Fight album the title track 'small deadly space' but not the remastered version as they spoilt it by changing the riff listen to the original it's my favourite Fight song ever.

we all know halford has a real heart, his spirit spoke within the music to embrace the cherriness of the holidays...
sure it's different but hey, life would be boring if everything were predictable...

I have not yet bought the album. But,i've listen to some of the songs thats posted on youtube, and i like it. Its different sure, but its a xmas music album.
[guardian angel] Wednesday, November 18, 2009 5:15:29 PM
Yes, it's definitely nice to be able to listen to something online or YouTube, to give you an idea of the direction of the music.  That's how I found I liked some of Rob's 2wo stuff.  I really like I Am A Pig and I love Deep In The Ground.  I still have Fight in my back pocket, for when I feel I need something new or different from my favorite vocalist.  Haven't quite gotten into that yet.  On the other hand, I didn't need to think twice about Halford - Resurrection.  I picked that up the minute I saw it & loved it.  Same goes with anything Priest.  I do think they like the artistic freedom of trying new things.  Despite the fact that some fans don't like it.  It's just the way it goes.  At the end of the day, they have to enjoy the songs they're playing, otherwise it's a long tour.

Last word on the CD - wife laffed at it, and i still prefer the Twisted Sister xmas CD. That's if ur talking rock. For a more traditional feel try Jethro Tull's xmas album...is damn fine.
[kiamat] Wednesday, November 18, 2009 3:36:34 PM
I never thought of it like that, but yeah, they have put their unique stamp on so many styles, and the band members then have side projects so in effect they can explore any musical style they like. You don't have to like everything they do (eg. I'm not a big fan of Fight) but you can admire them for showing that metal musicians aren't as narrow minded as the critics/press make them out to be. Even if it doesn't work- well if the band are enjoying themselves... fortunately in this day and age we can always check out the sound of an album online before buying if we aren't sure about it, so the band don't need to worry about angering fans who buy a new album and don't like the style/direction.

If you really think about it HRMG, Priest are rather insidious.  By creating a library of music that has a feel for all seasons and occasions, they've essentially created a one-man-show.  Why listen to any other band when you can get it all here?  How funny is that?!  These guys are evil geniuses!  I still like listening to other types of music (classical, techno, industrial, etc, but not country, unless it's old style like Marty Robbins), but putting anything Priest in the cd player, and it's like coming home.  It fills my soul with peace.
