+23F  we got about 9" of snow today!!
[_strat_] Tuesday, January 20, 2009 4:54:59 AM
A couple degrees above freezing, foggy, but at least nothings falling from the sky.

That time of the year again, tho... The thaw. Temps get above freezing at day, and below at night, so everything that was molten in daytime freezes overnight and stays frozen till midday. Im seriously considering going to work on ice skates.

A HEATWAVE HAS OVERTAKEN EASTERN ONTARIO...-8c AND OVERCAST...
[ron h] Monday, January 19, 2009 11:40:49 AM
It hasn't snowed here in 6 days and we still have snow on our streets.  It doesn't even warm up enough during the day to melt any of it.  With all the snow we have, because of the frigid temps we can't make snowballs, it needs to warm up another 20 deg. or so to get that.  That's what makes winter NOT fun, can't enjoy even making a snowman...argh!!!
[paperflowers] Monday, January 19, 2009 11:32:14 AM

Oh neat. We get a teensy bit, not every winter. I haven't thrown a snowball since my teens, ugh. There was a dusting just before Thanskgiving.

Check this out: "With cold air in place over central North Carolina... the potential exists for a significant amount of snow as this storm system strengthens."

FUCK YEAH!

Paperflowers...in the mid 80's I spent time at Camp LeJeune NC, I remember the winters there getting cold, and there was once even a little snow dusting, but it never lasted long...spent most of my time between the Jacksonville and Fayetteville areas...did see Bon Jovi and Cinderella at the Collosium once (my ex won tix off a radio show!!).

LOL when I was a kid it actually used to snow here!!   Man, I feel like the most thinblooded person in the world this winter. I've been wearing full thermals in the office all day.
[ron h] Sunday, January 18, 2009 6:59:43 AM
+12F  not as windy

I only lived 2 blocks from school, so it was never too cold to go back then, the bitch was when it was raining!!
[spapad] Saturday, January 17, 2009 8:17:23 PM
While I agree that it was too cold for the poor dears to stand out in the cold waiting for a bus, you know they never gave us tha luxury when we where in school. They close school here now if the roads are slick enough they would have to chain the buses.

WOW guido, I couldn't imagine living without gas!!  Not that I would look like Fat Bastard or anything lol...heat/air, electric stove and dryer...no wonder your bill is so high...around here, the electric is so much cheaper than gas...the heating bill for me in the winter is always more expensive than the electric from running the central air all summer.  I think the Mob runs the utilities up here!!!

You are right on par (almost to the DOLLAR) with me if you multiply it up to the size of my house. Only difference would be if you had any sort of gas bill. My entire house is electric as I can't get natural gas out here. No heat pump either.

Try paying $180.00 for the month to heat only 1000 feet of house! I have a tiny place and it's pretty well insullated. The Electric Company raised the rates by 25% back in October and the state stepped in and told them they could not raise the rate that high. So we still  got a 19% increase and I have not seen any money refunded from the electric company yet. They are blood sucking bastards! It's insane!

You got a massive electric bill too? DAMN, I almost had a heart attack when I saw mine. About $540 or so for a month when I wasn't even HOME!! WTF?

I am thinking my neighbors came over and just ran a big electrical cable over to heat their house. Probably to get me back for all the times Calvin dug up their flower beds.

As this is my first post here, I can't understand some of the disdain for this thread.  I enjoy reading how it may be winter here and others are enjoying summer and others are preparing for fall.  It puts my mind in a place that my body can't be and I find it refreshing as well as rejuvinating at times.

It is a cold 4F here, with about 3" of snowfall over night.

I made my feelings about this Thread well known when Soy first created it. At great personal peril, I expressed my distaste for it and that was that. I believe I have even posted in it once. From that point on, I simply took Val's advice and ignored it. Not much I can do about it and, it really is harmless. My complaint was never so much about discussing weather as it was about MORE Threads. Everyone here knows how I feel so I need not keep repeating myself.

The weather is a nice way to start up a conversation and, as evidenced by the number of posts in this Thread, the membership finds it interesting enough. That is fine by me. I will just avoid it and my blood pressure will remain at a safe level.
[jimmyjames] Saturday, January 10, 2009 12:59:53 AM
Nah, it's just a common ground subject people use because they can't think of anything else, it's a cop out subject. I can understand if someone wants to talk about getting snowed in or something extreme like that but just getting on the site an letting people know it's raining or sunny or whatever. Boring.

I'll only say this:

Weather isn't boring...it's dynamic! The atmosphere is never resting...something is always happening, even if the day is sunny and calm. It has a huge impact on whether or not your day will be productive or not simply by the temperature of the air. Extreme temperature can take a toll on you if you're out in it for a long time, speeding the process of fatigue or dehydration.

The weather can either aid us or go against us. We can't stop it, especially now as it changes, but we can adapt and work with it. In short, it plays a role in our daily lives. That's why we often talk about it, whether at a bus stop or on a metal band's website. You've been here long enough to know that we've been talking about the weather in our cities before this thread was created, so this topic is nothing new. It's like the Tipton vs. Hetfield thread, or the watcha eatin thread. It ain't gonna die anytime soon. So get used to it.

Appreciate Mother Nature a teensy bit more and the way she seems to work around your schedule, and she might not send a typhoon to NZ and take your metal album of the day to the sea for the fish to enjoy.

Goodnight.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jimmyjames from Friday, January 09, 2009 11:39:02 PM)

I can't ignore it. It's like when you're waiting for a bus or something and people start talking about the weather. It drives me mad.
