LOL I did a bit of googling too, I didn't think Hawaii was the most isolated chain of islands in the world? Random. Hope you're having fun!

Ha! Cheater!

I had never been and had no idea that they were supposedly the most isolated island chain on the planet. It was in the guide book and I still had to confirm it with a google myself. Who'd a thunk it? Found it confirmed a bunch of places online, though. Aloha!

Hmmm...considering that he's made quite a few accomplishments, the guy should also have a beach named after him.

Really cool!

HA! Sadly, I HAVE seen that film. I much prefer the Simpson's Halloween Special based on it.

While I was voted off the island and returned home late last night, same problem....the Island of Dr. Moreau wasn't a chain. Also, at least to my knowledge, Val Kilmer was never known as "The Duke." May God have mercy on anyplace that would make a statue of him as well. lol

Well, while I'd certainly be well-suited for the Island of Misfit Toys, it has the same problem as Easter Isle. It is only one island. Plus, like Easter Island and the Isles of Tierra del Fuego, they are all close to something. How long did it take Rudolph to get there? Two clicks from the North Pole.

While JJ had the most creative answer (never saw that show. Why were there no people of color on that "world boat?" Hell, there was even a yellow Power Ranger!) Becks, while not 100%, was actually the closest.

Hint? I could walk down to the beach each day and be welcomed by a statue of "The Duke."

You went to Disneyland on the Fourth of July. Yeah, that's a really bad idea. At least it wasn't during December, though.

Tip #539: NEVER go to Disneyland during the Winter Holiday Season, or THIS will most likely happen. No joke.

Strat, Easter Island is just that, one island. He said a group of islands, although he didn't say it was tropical, could be anywhere up to and including and isolated grouping of islands in a large lake, or sea? Too many places to guess from such a vague hint.

Flora was what every traveling parent would pray for on both the flight there and the flight back. Slept the whole way mostly, only woke up one time on the way there and as soon as she had her bottle, she went right back to sleep. She was such a good baby that people actually congratualted us on how good she was the whole plane trip. I don't usually give Olympic much credit but for this I will. They had these little baby basinettes that locked into the wall of the partician in front of our seats, and I put her in her little crib and she went right off to sleep.

I don't blame you for sleeping at the airport, had I been alone I would have done the same as I would have been sound asleep on the floor long before the time we reached our hotel.

I was offered a room at a hotel when getting my travel plans rearranged but declined. Didn't want to bother with going back and forth and I was going to get little sleep anyway. And yeah, jet lag is a weird thing. The first couple of days I was waking up at 4 am local time. Similar thing occurred when I got back. How did Flora behave throughout that whole ordeal?   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by spapad from Wednesday, January 12, 2011 6:47:49 PM)

As someone who went to Disneyland (Disney World's in Florida) a few times, here are a few tips:

1). Go on your birthday. Apparently admission is free on your birthday. Otherwise it's ridiculously expensive. Be prepared to pay alot for souvenirs, food, etc. as is the case with any amusement park.

2). The fireworks show at night is pretty impressive.

3). Space Mountain is the best ride, IMO. Next best would have to be Indiana Jones, followed by Matterhorn.

4). For kids, well...just about anything is rideable. Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast is a big plus.

Three days in the same clothes and sleeping in the airport. That sucks! I thought it was bad when Olympic ran to late for us to catch our connecting flight and we had to stand in line with our luggage and Flora at 7 months old for 6 hours. Finally got put up in a hotel for the night which we didn't reach until midnight, and had to be back at the airport by 5:00 am. One ruff day witht he jet lag setting in hard.

Tell me about it. I missed a connecting flight while traveling to Berlin (Vail at that time= noob when it came to traveling multiple flights). That really sucked. Had to stay the night at Newark International and arrive a day later than planned. Lost my luggage in the process too, and while it was found, I had to wear the same clothes for another two days. Best part is that I was the first to get to class in the morning...directly from the airport.

As for your question, without googling...ummm...the Antilles?

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a pretty dumb thing to do, though. Removing an entire tier of teeth just because of one broken tooth. It's not like one broken tooth will make the unbroken ones fall off. Too bad our teeth aren't like those of sharks. One falls off and another is ready to replace it.

Good deal! Dentures are expensive.
I wouldn't know, but I have a friend who foolishly had her entire top tier of teeth pulled just because she broke one tooth. She already had her bottom teeth done about 10 years ago. Now, she has pretty shiny fake teeth, and I can't think they could be as comfortable as a few teeth not perfect, but still your own.

Oh, and by the way, she's 5 years younger than me.

Yeah, but after a 3-hour car ride, $20.00 USD is a pretty good deal. Of course, that wasn't why my mom, her friend, and I went there on Monday in the first place. What was supposed to be a medical check-up (and buying cheap generic medicine) ended up with my mom coming back with a souvenir. Unfortunately one of her teeth had to be pulled out because of signs of periodontal disease around it. Thus, my phrase with the pic. Same dentist offered to make her a partial denture for $150.

20.00 plus the big fat plane ticket? I think I wont bother.
Besides there are places in the U.S. you can get teeth pulled for 25.00.  Pulling teeth is cheep, it's saving them that is expensive. Root canal. Insurance will pay, but not until you cough up the 400.00 or more yourself to pay for it, and then wait a month or three to be reimbursed.
Do you know that Barbers ages ago used to practice teeth extraction? and  blood letting. The striped pole outside a barber shop has a somewhat macabe past. The pole used to be stained with blood from blood letting practices. HA, my father would have been perfect back in those days since he is a R.N. and a certified Barbor. He chose to stick to barboring because it paid better in his established practice.

The way the violence at the border cities are keeping the tourists away, I would bet you could get a tooth removed even cheaper now. Look at the tagging on those three buildings next to the church.

Hell, they'll remove a head for free in Ciudad Juárez. I'd barter.

Bump. Up you go, travel thread...

Now then. Just got a call from my mom. I get to travel with her and a friend outside the country for one day! Where to, you ask? Well, it's a little ways away from Los Angeles (just a tad). My family and I used to go to this place frequently, although not in recent years. We usually go there to get cheap natural medicine that actually works. It's our version of Canada, so to speak. Next Monday, we're going to...:

*drum roll*

TJ (Tijuana, MX for those who don't know). Believe it or believe it not. And this time a passport will be needed to cross the border.
