I don't think JJ was serious BS, he can be a bit of a joker at times and once you get to know him, he's not a bad dude.
I also just wanted to state that in our country, if you get the instructor on a bad day, no matter how well prepared you are, they'll fail you if they feel like it. I know that when I went for my drivers the first time I drove perfectly. The women who was testing me was in a crap mood and I could pick it up imediatly. She failed me. The next time I went, I drove worse than the first time, for instance I know there was once or twice that I wasn't as observant as I should have been and I didn't really check a blind spot properly. But the instructor said he could see that I could handle driving and just to remember to be more aware and that was it. Passed. So I'm not sure what it is like all over the world but I experienced that first hand.
I also know that BS was a bundle of nerves the first few times but once she got comfortable she aced it. So once again, my heartfelt congratulations to you my friend.
Enjoy having the freedom of your car and for legally obtaining your drivers liscence. You worked really hard for it so give yourself a break and enjoy having your liscence!

My driving instructor actually reckoned I was a better driver as I was a learner for longer- (it took me three goes). Loads of people pass their test first time on sheer luck and really shouldn't have- I know at least two guys who did and wrote their cars off within six months. Failing your test doesn't make you a worse driver, whatever people say- it possibly makes you a safer one in the long run. And congratulations on getting it!

The law here in NY State is the same. No cells while driving. Its funny that a lot of the time I see a cop in his car moving he is on a cell phone. There were deaths around here in the last few months involving teens, high rates of speed and texting. I live via my Blackberry and due to business I have to take calls when mobile but thats why they have blue tooth head sets for them and voice dialing. Never have I texted or emailed when moving. Its an accident waiting to happen....

What people dont understand is that compaired to an automobile there are far less incidents involving tractor trailers. The make news when there is an accident, more often than not, due to there sheer size and the damage they can produce. Now the idiot that caused the accident I mentioned should have his nuts cut off but take a good look at how many deaths there are every month now that involve stupid people and texting. If I were you, I would be much more worried about the 17 year old girl cruising along texting her grilfriends and yacking on her cell phone! Thats the one that will get you killed. I was out to the store the other day and a Miata flew past me and ran the red light and was nearly T-boned by a car pulling out. I am in total agreement with you on the texting thing. Over here it is actually illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving but no laws on texting?

Your right, any incident of a truck driver screwing up will both do serious damage and get serious news coverage. but your also right, most truckers are beter drivers than most car drivers, and the idiots in cars cause more cumulative carnage than trucks ever could. its like plane crashes. statisticly by far the safest way to travel, yet if you kill 200 in one shot, somewhere in a third world country everyone gets up in arms about it. heck there are 200 deaths a day in some parts due to civil war, or trafic or whatnot, yet they never make the news.

Hellrider,was this interview you heard or read from sometime last year in 2009? Or was it something in the last 2 months? I listened to an interview from Feb.24th 2009 almost a year ago where K.K. was still talking about doing Nostradamus live ect...but that again was almost a year ago.I think that if they were going to do it they would of been preping up for it by now.But make no mistake,if I log on here in the up-coming months to read that they are actually doing the full blown Nostradamus tour I will be "butt hurt and bent"!!!! MM, do you remember that not the 9 o clock news skit about trucking? The 'I Love Trucking' song? That is still one of my all time favorite skits. Just loved how everytime they mowed something down in the truck they'd stick a sticker of it on the door sort of like, keeping track lol.
I'm a cyclist and I learn to respect El Trucker... Although the ones driving in the early hours of the morning tend to be keener to dim their lights etc when they notice me on my bicycle.. more than I can say for some cars. Some do give you the impression that they take aim but then... so do some motorists so you cannot ever generalize and say they all suck etc. Depends on the person behind the wheel.

Ron, my favorite Uncle trucked his entire carreer. He explained some things to me that alarm average motorists, that we don't understand. Like that horrible sound a truck will make comming up behind you.
It's true without truckers there would be a bunch of stuff laying around rotting, rusting, not getting built, or loosing potentcy and not helping anyone. I apprciate a trucker, and the major role they play in our economy.

Thanks. The thing is, she knows that I know him, and she also knows that he is married. The only thing she's not aware of is how slimy this dude is (which I didn't know either until he crossed the line) because he appears to be an extremely nice guy at first glance. This guy should NOT be dating your sister. That is plain pig-headed and cruel on his behalf. However, I think that whatever warnings etc you gife your little sister now would fall on deaf ears. So I'd say be there for her, try to watch out for her as best you can without interfering and once she feels comfortable talking to you about him, tell her that you know this guy, you know how he treated his ex and you don't want her hurt in the same way.
