RJD is an awesome singer. the line that gets me EVERY time I hear it is "Sing me a song your a singer..."
DF, was ozzy a great singer back in the day. I was impressed that he seemed coherant, jumped around a lot and got the words right. his vocal abilities didnt impress me much. but I didnt think he could move like that. he is no match for Dio though. Rob Halford has to be on his best day to compare. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by _strat_ from Monday, December 08, 2008 9:10:25 AM) | | _strat_ wrote: | | Lol. But that aside, I said it before and I say it again, an awesome singer. His singing really sends shivers down my spine. AND he is good lyricist as well. Theres a song on the Black Sabbath: The Dio years album (a great album, worth every cent) that starts with "One fine day... In hell". How could I possibly not like that? Or lines like "shadow in the dark"? Thats metal! Not singing about chicks or partying. Thats just pop with guitar solos, as far as Im concerned. Dungeons and dragons, swords and sorcery. Thats metal for me!

Well said... I am a huge Dio fan. I was just so impressed with their show on this Metal Masters tour....Ronnie James Dio was amazing... his voice, his showmanship... he never fails to "deliver the goods". I had a chance to say hello.. but I let that moment get away from me. From what I've heard... he is nice to the fans and always takes his time when he meets them. |

The last time I heard Ozzy sing was 2000/01. Sometime in there...cannot recall exact dates. ANYWAY, he was just awful. Could not hit the proper notes, WAY flat in most spots and completely off key. He was, in short, terrible. And I am a big fan. I have seen Ozzy more than I have seen Priest! Love him! Saw him with Zakk in '89 and it was incredible!
It is a shame that he continues to try to do something he can no longer do. He is really just a shell now. A testament to the dangers of drugs and alcohol. They have devasated his body and destroyed a true gift. |

solo. sabath with Dio twice. RJD can sing. Sabath with martin once, but the sound set in the venue was so bad I had no idea what song they were doing most of the time.
yeah, crazy train was one of the tougher ones he atempted, that and bark at the moon. I give him this he did a good job as an entertainer, but anything that was vocaly chalenging, it was realy chalenging for him. zack did the 10 minute guitar solo, but I guess the fingers dont age like the voice. I am not sure if it is as you say, that they sacrifice sound for seating space, or if they just do not care anymore, but there really is something to be said for a band to play together for twenty or thirty years and be able to play with feeling and "togetherness", as you put it. We were pretty excited to see Metallica in Calgary on Friday night, but were bitterly disappointed. Now, I'm no rookie when it comes to concerts, as that was my 45th one -- one for each year I've been alive, and that includes seeing Priest (only) 5 times. But, I am so sorry to say Metallica sucked.
Their set-up to sell *all* the seats, with no back-stage and play closer to the middle of the arena must have had something to do with absolutely terrible sound quality, and they played a shitty, shitty, set-list. Don't know if it was b/c it was their second night of sold-out shows in town, but it was NOT good.
Maybe Hetfield needs to start drinking again, to get some inspiration. There was no 'style', no cohesiveness in their show. It was just separate guys doing their thing. It lacked something important. I wanted to be "wowed", believe me, I did ... But when people left during the first song of their "encore", I guess I was not the only one who may have felt that way. I was just kind of shocked.
We came out to the RV and cranked JP for all to hear how it was supposed to be done -- and to feed our unsatisfied souls with real music. I just can't think of the last time we were that disappointed with a band's performance.
Judas Priest raises the bar, and has spoiled me for any other metal band. Colley asked me to quote him as saying, "The more bands I see, the better Priest is."
Ok, now you can let the rotten tomatoes fly ... Sorry. |

Sorry. |

IDK, Id kill to see Ozzy and Zakk playing live. Even if all they did was play the old hits like a jukebox. Then again, maybe its jsut that I havent seen them in their prime.
BUT, one thing that we can comfort ourselves with is that at least two of the classics, Priest and Maiden can still record good albums, and at least Maiden (I know that from my own experience) can put on one hell of a good show. HI BACK....IT'S SNOWING AND BLOWING HERE ...NO BIG DEAL IT'S DECEMBER RIGHT?...
UNFORTUNATE ABOUT METALLICA,BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?...I MANAGED TO TAKE IN METALLICA MANY YEARS AGO,FUNNY THING IS,I DIDN'T THINK THEY SOUNDED ALL THAT GREAT LIVE THEN...I LIKE THEIR ALBUMS,BUT MAYBE LIVE ISN'T THEIR BEST PRODUCT,SOME BANDS ARE LIKE THAT...ANOTHER BAND THAT COMES TO MIND IS MEGADETH,I LIKE THEIR STUDIO STUFF,BUT LIVE?...NO...GOOD TO KNOW THOUGH. I really hate to say it (I know, I'm going to hell...), but 'Save your Money'. Especially in this day and age. Save it to see Priest ... twice...
Oh boy, well, mostly they played shit from their new album, which pales in comparison to "Nostradamus" -- so I can only hope Priest gets their due at the Grammies. I have a thought, "the bands should be forced to play live to get an award". Priest would win, hands down. It's obvious (at this show anyway... but the Saddledome has had pretty good sound compared to a lot of other venues I've been to across the country), that the recording studio does Metallica a lot of favours they can't get away with on stage.
Whatever songs they 'did' play that people were waiting for, was indistinguishable -- and even I got lost at times! It was a garbled mess. They played something of Master 'o Puppets, but a lot of the stuff I had gone to hear was not played. Colley, who just loves the 'idea' of a concert and will always find some reason to like it, was "Did we just see a concert? That was Metallica?" Poor guy was never more disappointed, but never more proud to be a Priest fan.
We tried converting some pedestrians in the parking lot with our JP music -- guess we'll find out in the spring if the RV has blown speakers, or not... Some young kid broke from the crowd and came running up to us, yelling "I saw Priest last year! They were awesome!" We told him of our trip to Vegas, etc. and I'll bet his eyes weren't that bright and excited during the concert that he had just seen.
I just hate being the bearer of bad news... |

DF this is a guid question if I ever saw one, but do you close all tabs and extra programs before you run the video? Is your Security scan just so happen to be running at that time? Do you have the most up to date shockwave plugins? Many questions, but only the true geeks can respond to the best potential. So check those things out before you have to break down and ask the guid. I have said this before and I continue to say it, WII COMPUTER GAME does NOT make you a FRIGGIN' MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!! It makes you (at best) a GAME PLAYER!!!! Absolutely NOTHING more. Just a gamer like the kid playing "Grand Theft Auto" or whatever. Is he suddenly a car thief or thug???? (Well, maybe a thug..who knows?) If I play MLB 08, am I suddenly a baseball player???? NO!! My point is, a COMPUTER GAME does NOT make one a musician! It takes NO musical talent whatsoever to "play" a Wii "instrument"!! Further, it has NO intrinsic musical value at all! It is just a freakin game!
To those of you that actually read my words I say this; If you are not currently a musician or learning to play an instrument, Wii is NOT going to make you a musician! If your goal is to become a musician, LEARN TO PLAY A FREAKIN INSTRUMENT!!! TAKE SOME VOCAL LESSONS!!!! Ye GODS! It's like Karaoke has spawned some evil, demon-seed and they are are multiplying!!!

I couldn't agree more DF, I remember when the first guitar hero came out- all these people going around saying 'I can can play this, I can play that' and I was thinking for the price of that game you could have bought a real guitar and amp and REALLY learned to play them- and now its extended to drums, bass who knows what else... still, we shall stand firm against this international obsession, it can't last.
Oh, and I really hate the videos people post of themselves playing it on youtube, the ones that come up when you're looking for the real music. |

Ok. Thanks guys. From that list I posted quickly before heading out the door I do see that 53 is, indeed, AC/DC radio. Still, nary a MENTION on XM website!
If this is true, not only will I hear someone say "bone me" (not in county jail, that is...lol) but have a couple of other decent stations out of this merger. Now I just wonder when they are going to boost the price / special packages / outdate hardware as only a monopoly can do.
Like me living out here in the country. I have to actually "rent" a DSL modem. Piece of crap from China that costs me some $10+ per month! No other option. Like renting a phone just like they used to do back in the old days. I still remember laughing as I found my poor 94 year-old neighbor had been renting a MASSIVE rotary phone for some 20 years. No greater pleasure than me putting that monster in a mailer and stuffing the 10 pound black beast into a mailbox so she could go to Meijer and buy a $9 phone!
So, XM might not be pissing me off..yet. Haaa!!!! Ah, thanks man! That is really good to know. About out the door to work and I'll check it out on the drive.
Amazing that there was nary a WORD on XM's pages (at least last time I checked). Even had a buddy laughing at the lack of info there as he has Sirius.
Guess I'll have to be checking the Sirius pages from now on for info! I shudder to think of what has happened to my Big 10 football. Been too busy to notice but I DID see that my hockey games are now pretty limited. Sigh... You know, with the merger of XM and Sirius I notice one big difference. Not that it really "pisses me off" as such but there is no more "Boneyard" as far as I can tell. Don't think I'll get Eddie Trunk (liked the Monday interviews), HATE the damn "Hair Nation" moniker that has not taken over station 41 (although the music was really good and I even had a "stay in the car in the driveway" moment tonight when Locked In came on) but what I miss most of all? Some fine lass saying "Bone me!" as a filler / advert for the Boneyard between songs! HAAAA!!!! |
