Well Goliath29, all I can say is that you'd get along really well with my older nephew. He's 20 and is a huge fan of The Mars Volta. He gave me a burned copy of one of the band's albums so that I can give them a listen. Verdict: Sorry, but the overall sound of the band is too disorderly and hackneyed.
[Becks] Saturday, October 24, 2009 4:27:48 PM
What the heck is Nashville Pussy? LMAO!!!!

I am. The Grammy's are an ENORMOUS joke as is the selection for the Music Hall of Fame. Neither can even distinguish categories much less who belongs where.

Try looking up how many Grammy's Nashville Pussy won. Metallica won something for St. Anger if I recall. BWWAAAAHAAAAA!!! 'Nuff said.

Not trying to disrespect your music taste or anything, but the grammys are an enormous joke.

It's just sad that a band as good as THE Mars Volta doesn't get credit because everyones watching MTV and basically listening to the garbage they spew there and everywhere else for that matter.  THE MArs Volta did recieve a grammy which was a long time coming.
[Bazookajoe_666] Saturday, October 24, 2009 3:43:23 PM
What the fuck haha? I don't need to "earn" respect from anyone here. Its a fucking INTERNET FORUM. You need to deal with the fact that nobody is going to agree with your musical taste 100% of the time.

In my opinon, the Mars Volta are one of the shittiest fucking bands going these days. It doesn't matter how technically good you are a musician, if you can't write half decent songs that are gonna stand the test of time and get everyone's ears listening, why bother ya know?

I'm no hypocrite and I'm definitly not ignorant. You said you weren't as old as many Priest fans are here, so I fairly assumed you were younger then 20, thats not being ignorant, you brought that assumption on yourself. And being assumed that your younger then most here, its generally fair to assume you don't know as much about music in gneral that most people here would know.

For someone 29 years old and claims to be into tons and tons of music, not just metal, you are quite surprisingly ignorant when you assumptions made about you from your own words. I'm gonna only be 19 in this January coming up, I'll be the first one to tell you I don't know everything and CERTAINLY not everything about music. I'm still learning, just like evverrryyyone else. Including you. So don't be so quick to mount yourself on the high horse next time. Thats my advice.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Goliath29 from Saturday, October 24, 2009 9:10:11 AM)

It is THE Mars Volta, by the way. That is what is called a definite article and is there to distinguish them from another band that already had that name.

Correct me if I am wrong but you are not talking about the European band that previously had that name. They played true euro tech trash. For someone who is such a fan of the band, that is quite a big difference. Mention their name in Spain or Portugual that way and watch people laugh.

Oh, I know he does not need my help nor did he ask for it. I simply state my views that I DO know the band (¿hablas español? Puedo explicarme mil veces mejor en el idioma de la mayoría de la banda). You missed my point completely. I cannot help but both laugh and interject when a young 29 year old newbie feels the need to put down a friggin' 19 year old regular.
Many thanks, though, for letting me know it is ok with you to be bored and that you admire me for standing up for Joe. Boy does THAT make my bored day better!

Guidogodoy.... I never claimed to be any kind of "expert". You obviously are bored which is cool. All I did was ask a question intially and got slammed for it. Which is also fine.  I just get tired of people who Judge bands based primarily from what they are told by others opinions or the small amount of time they may have sampled their music and then turn around and claim they know the band. They're not "nu-Metal" FYI. Though I can appreciate the fact you're standing up for Joe I'm sure he can retort on his own without your help. seriously you're not helping him..

[guidogodoy] Saturday, October 24, 2009 11:13:40 AM
HAAAAAA!!!! A 29 year old KID telling a regular member he is an expert because of age?!? LOL!!! Man, that is too funny.

Take it from me, sonny. I have NO doubts that a regular like Joe has no desire to "earn your respect" with his comments. For the record, I am old enough to be your father, my track record of listening to many genres of music (from this country and others) is well-documented and I know Mars Volta. Hell, I even know what the name means!

I think they play what they want to play....um..."well." However, I am NO fan of that whiny joke of nu-metal.

Well Bazooka Joe You sure seem lke 19 or possibly younger. I am 29 and I have been A Mars Volta fan since their debut back at the turn of the century. I myself listen to many genres of music and to basically say I'm not open-minded with music without even knowing that plus slamming a band like The Mars Volta which even if you're not a fan you must admit the great overall talent they possess as musicians leads me to believe you are a hypocrite at least. But then again due to your apparent ignorance and attitude towards them me makes me scratch my head and just wonder if thats a bit harsh to say. So go do your homework kid. Then make your asinine comments to me but I hope after you've realized you've made a mistake you can suck it up and earn my respect again...Whatever you do don't stop rocking
[Bazookajoe_666] Friday, October 23, 2009 4:02:07 PM

You can do a LOT better then Mars Volta, trust me.

Not sure how old you are, I'm almost 19. I remembered when I first joined this board a few years ago. I was looking around with wonder and all these cool song titles like Genocide and Tyrant and wondering what the songs were. Now, I have almost there entire discography, minus 3 Ripper albums.

Judas Priest opened metal up for me. And now I listen to a ton of different genres of metal, and music as a whole. There's only a very SMALL number of subgenres of music I don't like.

Open your mind up, but not to shit like Mars volta.

of course i have to get my 2 cents in...lol... i saw Metallica live last thursday in cleveland. while certainly not their best, it was a good show!! can't say i 'love' what they are doing these days, aside from James not swearing every other word like in the past, the music was heavy and crisp....definitely the older stuff shined, however, i have to admit there are a few tracks from  'Magnetic' that i do enjoy.....again, does not come close to 'old school' Metallica!

Sad isn't it? James blames Cliff for dying..... don't even get me started on how STUPID that is, and yet I don't think Cliff would ever be in THIS Metallica. Cliff would have either packed his bags and left long ago, or he would have kept them on the right track! RIP Cliff - you were great.

I agree totally with that Becks. I don't know what happened to them, but whatever it is, I can't STAND it! I think more than anything else, their attitudes PISS ME OFF! I watched that stupid ass "movie" they made while Hetfield was in therapy thinking maybe watching that would help me not hate them so much. WRONG! What a JOKE that thing was! Priest would NEVER in a MILLION years put something like that on TV. I lost all respect for them (what I had left I should say) at that point. It's hard for me to really get into a band that I think most of the members are jerks.

I think the biggest problem I have with modern Metallica is the music, to me, is so hollow. Nothing raw like you get from their first few efforts, or ANY Priest effort (bar probably Nostradamus, being a concept album). I honestly get the feeling they are just churning out music for the hell of it, without any real feeling being put in to any of it. It doesn't resonate with me at all.

Yes Becks, they are "shit". I fucking HATE this band SOOO much it isn't even funny! I too like Guido was a huge Metallica fan from 1983 when I first heard Kill 'Em All when I was 13 years old to 1986 when Cliff Died.I still thought they were ok with the first Garage Days and the ...And Justice album wasn't my thing, and even though they kinda sold out by making the One video, they still could of "stayed" at the level of "metal" music in ...And Justice For All....if they would of kept that style and image all these years they may have turned out alright, but noooooo they had to drag thier band and name through the mud! Cliff would be turning over in his grave if he heard what they did to his band!!!!!!

I look at Metallica and instantly I shake my head in disgust. What a bunch of nerds. And they think they are hot shit and they think thier new songs are top quality.....that is a fuckin joke,James Hetfield is a dork and he has destroyed Metallica forever...there is "no going back now" they have had tons of chances to nut up and harken back to the old days, but they haven't and never will, even if they tried to it wouldn't be "true" it would be a "wannabe heavy metal album" and true metalheads will see straight through this crap.

Anybody who thinks differently is fooling themselves,I'm not saying that someone can't like the new shit, but to say that its just as good as thier old stuff,or to say that they are contributing to heavy metal they are fooling themselves and have no idea how much of a slap in the face they are to the true metal community,I hate Hetfield and Ulrich, they are a fuckin joke...they turned out "worse" than Paul & Gene!

Holy crap! Here I am typing on Shitallica and up comes a report on CNN that a Virginia Tech student disappeared at their last concert!!?? It was LARS, damnit, Inspector Clouseau!!! He killed Kirk YEARS ago!!! Any photo op was just an imitator or, perhaps, a clone. I certainly haven't heard him play a guitar in a few albums....

I am a Metallica fan, but I have to agree with JD and Guido - the stuff they are churning out now is craptacular. St Anger and Death Magnetic (the better of the two) just don't hold my attention at all and the songs are too long and self indulgent. Yes, their first 4 albums are excellent, but they started what has to be the biggest downhill slide in metal. I should note that I am a fan of the black album, heck I walked down the isle to an instrumental version of Nothing Else Matters LOL! But yeah, that's just a personal thing, I like that album. After that, arguably even before depending on who you're talking to, the shit hit the fan for them. I saw a debate about the best metal bands on an MTV website or something, and some young woman was arguing for Metallica to be #2 over Priest (WTF) and she said something along the lines of 'But that just shows how good Metallica is, even they can't top their first 4 albums!' Errrr the point is, they SHOULD be able to, but haven't!!!!!!

I second that statement 100%! Anyone who knows me also would know that I was a DIEHARD fan of Metallica. What they are churning out now is supreme crap.

To highlight it, I bought a bootleg of St. Anger on the streets in México and it wasn't worth the 50cents I paid for it. That is more than sad. It is pitiful. I am one who has seen them some five times in concert as well. Really breaks my heart to say that I think James should start drinking again. Perhaps it would get him out of his dockers.

I leave the Limewire fiasco RIGHT out of the equation. I could rail on on what a stupid move that was for ages. Preach on, brother J.D.

To slam Metallica, ( one of the world's greatest metal bands in my opinion...at least in their first decade of making music) well was just a bad example on your part. If you have experienced a personal problem with the band or just don't like their music for whatever reason..Doesn't mean you should dis them like you have..It's hard to argue their record selling numbers compared to almost any other metal band as of now, and they definetly have had a concept album (and.Justice.For ..All) ahem...Just be more careful with showing too much emotion on a blog when you're trying to glorify a band if it leads to pissing off others. You can seriously offend someone like you have myself. Props to Judas Priest and Metallica...Let the peace start here..SEMPER FIDELIS!

hey jtwa1,

i was actually on the constellation from 81 thru 82..i remember the non-skid very well!!! i also crossed the equator!  i love Nostradamus, and think the effort that was put into it is amazing...it truely is a masterful piece of work! thanks for your support!

[jtwa1] Monday, October 19, 2009 9:15:51 AM
jackylone, After reading some of the posts I discovered you were a squid. Well so am I, and proud of it. I became a Trusty Shellback on the USS Constellation back in 1976 on an I.O. cruise. If I think about it I can almost still feel the non-skid from that initiation. I'm a diabled Vet now and spend a lot of time at VA hospitals and clinics. In fact that's about the only places I go so my music is important to me and I listen to a wide range of music. I am very impressed with Nostradamus. I'm not surprised the younger generation doesn't like it. It is, after all, it is a thinking man's album. That ought to strike a note or two.
[jtwa1] Monday, October 19, 2009 8:43:08 AM
Having been a priest fan since coming back from overseas in 1978, and liking all of their stuff, I have to say Nostradamus is their best effort to date. The writing and  Musicianship is unsurpassed and I believe it opens new doors for Metal. I don't like most of the new Metal bands because of their repetitive nature and bad song writing. One listen to Nostradamus and you can tell how much thought and work went into it. A Heavy Metal concept album, imagine that. I for one can't put it on without listening to the whole thing. It's like Progressive Metal. Some of you younger Metal fans may not take to it right off but give it a chance it'll grow on you. Priest has set a new course for Metal. One I hope they continue on and others follow. Metallica and bands like that couldn't fathom doing such an album. So I agree with you, jackylone, Nostradamus is it.

Hey Necroticist....I agree with you about Nostradamus...I think it is a terrible abum and not a good Priest album as a whole...

But I know you really didn't want to tell Jackylone to "STFU" man....you probably had a bad day mate and probably vented some

frustrations....god knows I am the master at that...but Jackylonehas his say and right to do so...just like you said man.."to each his own"..

Jackylone....I think its great that Nostradamus is this special to you....I love "Angel Of Retribution"..and I know there are some fans

that hate this record or just think its half assed, not good enough..ect..but that goes in through one ear and out the other because to me

A.O.R. is Priest's 5th best recording in the band's 16 studio album career......so we sure all have some different outlooks.

I like the album, though I would be fed up with it if I heard it every day. Honestly, the music is there for listeners to enjoy it as they wish, though I don't find it heroic at all to listen every day for over one year, so I understand why some folks at blabbermouth said what they did. They're hardly the kind to be nice on a good day but I share 1/2 of their opinion. If you had learned how to play the album along with your friends I would think it was really great.

I prefer quality listening to quantity listening, but to each his/her own. I think the people criticizing had valid reasons to do so and their opinion was sincere, even if the language was rough and I don't agree with their overhall opinion of the album myself.
You got out of having your fun:
A free ticket;
Met the band who thanked you personally for your dedication;
The chance of bragging about it all.

By the way, that picture on Blabbermouth is more kind on you than the first one I saw (that made you look like a complete nutcase) because your friend is dressed in curtains and wears a lamp shade on his head.

Sorry to bitch, I can't help it but if you spent your time in the military 20 years ago, you're strong enough to read this.

Hey Hotrockin' Metal Goddess, thanks alot, its great to have supporters! if you go to blabbermouth.net and read some of the comments about the 365 day mark and the meeting the band, it wasn't very nice, althought there were supporters there. (few)...anyways all the guys were super, K.K. and Glenn thought it was so cool that i took to the record like i did and thanked me for my dedication for that and the 30 some years i've been a fan.  Ian laughed and jokingly said you listened a whole year and survived, but thought it was so cool....Scott thanked me for my dedication to the band, and Rob just sat and talked about doing the Nostradamus live and the production they want to put into it.  He asked me what the first Jp record i bought was, (Sin After Sin), and if this was the first time i saw Priest, of course this was the 6th or 7th time, (military commitments stopped me a few times), and he asked me why i dug the album so much, and basically i tld him, that no other album has been done this way, and that the band told the story very well..the music is great and that i could feel how Nostradamus 'the man' was feeling at a particular moment in his life in the tone of his vocals.  i also told him i knew little about Nostradamus and that i could get a picture of what he did and who is was.  it also made me do some research to learn more about Nostradamus.  He said he had read about me i that mornings paper, (the cleveland plain dealer did a story about the listening, and they also did a follow up that saturday with rob and i's picture in the paper).  i told him if it doesn't come to cleveland to at least try and get somewhere reasonable as i have to see it live.  he asked what i do for a living, even though it was in the paper, and i also told him about being a 20 year retiree from the military which he thought was very cool and thanked me for dedicared service.  He posed for a pic or 2 and thanked me for my love of the album and of the band, and told me to keep listening, and that 'understand the concept of Nostradamus!  i t was an experience i will NEVER forget!  don't think i wasn't a little excited and nervous because i was, but i also knew i was meeting some peopkle who have been in my life for 30+ years, so it wasn't bad at all.  they all made me feel just like i've known them for years.....anyother question, don't hesitate to ask, i LOVE talking Priest!

Jackylone! Obviously this album struck a cord with you and I think it's GREAT!! I remember doing the exact same thing with SFV, played it every single day, sometimes multiple times until Defenders came out. You do it because you love it and that is the only reason you should do it. I think it's fantastic that the band recognized it and wanted to meet you. Do you mind my asking, what questions did Rob ask you? Sorry, I need to live through you because when I met Priest at the meet and greet last year, I was a blubbering MESS! If in your shoes, I don't think I could have gotten very many words out, other than "I LOVE YOU!" For some reason, I meet anyone in Priest and my brains just fall right out of my head! LOL! By the way, my husband and I were at the Cleveland show too, 4th row center KK's side. Victim of Changes that night brought tears to my eyes.... God it was AMAZING!!!

Nostradamus is a really good album. It starts off with a punch and ends with one. It is one of those cd's that you have to listen to a couple of times and then it starts to grow on you. Listen to "Calm Before The Storm". If that doesn't give you chills I don't know what will. The way Rob sings it is, well only the way Rob can! Then the song "Nostradamus" very brutal song. Reminds me of Painkiller in a way. Then the last song "The Future Of Mankind". Holy sh*t. This song is frickin awesome. If anyone doesn't like it just give it about 3 or 4 times. It will grow on you!

Hey guys, i know you were only joking around...believe me, i took alot of bashing on blabbermouth.net over this, but it didn't bother me...there are alot of people who knew what was going on, including you guys on the boards here, and have been very supportive...so thanks to all of you and them...funny thing is, alot of the crap i got was how can i listen to the same album everyday for nearly 2 hours? i would say there's 24 hours in a day, i sleep 6-7 and there's still 17 to play with, and what's 2 hours!!!!  i am fortunate enough to have a job where i can listen to whatever for 8 hours....so, its pretty easy....

Hi again Jim...Don't bother answering the question I asked.  A friend of mine e-mailed me an interview you made that answered it for me.  I had in fact read it before, but I didn't recall it.  I was just curious in that what you've been able to accomplish is quite impressive, but for it to get all the way to the band is just incredible!!!  Keep the Faith, bro

Hey Jim, just echoing Freezes' comments.  I'm sure meeting the band and all that was a dream come true and I don't doubt your word at all.  I can see where there's time throughout the day...after all, there's still almost 22 hours left after a listen if you acually sat and did it.  I know I spend more than 2 hours a day listening to music, even though it's in the background and not relevant to what I'm doing.  I do have a question though, if you don't mind...how did your listening to Nos everyday become public in the first place?

hey guys, trust me, may god strike me down if i don't listen to it at least once a day!!!  i play it at work, (i'm there for 8 hours), or while at home doing something, or whenever...it doesn't stop me from listening to other stuff, i have a HUGE cd/album collection...and 2 hours a day is nothing....believe me, when this was started, there was no intent for what this has rolled into, (meeting the band or the press), it still amazes me that something like this got so much attention!
[Deep Freeze] Friday, August 14, 2009 8:51:09 AM
HA!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I would claim just about anything for that honor! Personally, I think jackylone is a friggin GENIUS. Whether or not he is really doing it, this Thread makes PERFECT sense! The Band desperately wants this album to be accepted and successful. Then a member claims to be "all about" it... friggin BRILLIANT! My hat's off to him!    HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe Nos is the only thing he listens to...unless he's said as much.  But, I can imagine that while he's home he's got it playing while on the pewter or while cleaning...just as background music.  Now, if he was sitting in a Lazy Boy for two plus hours with headphones on...

Where do u go to contact the management, if there is any way you could give me an e-mail address to contact them wiht?  I just ask because I would like the chance to meet glenn tipton for inspiring me to pick up the guitar because he picked it up when he was 21 as well as I did.  Thank you for anything you could possibly do to help me achieve this.  His playing and the music that both he and the rest of Judas Priest has helped to create has been a great influence to me.
