Even better....I got my riding mower stuck on a slippery slope landing it in the ravine that runs between my house and the neighbor. I managed to push it out. Were it to fall into a canyon, it would have been taken a helicopter to have removed the wreck. |

A ravine is small. Typically overflows into a flood-plain. A canyon is BIG!! Like in her picture. GRAND CANYON, for example?

The Degollado Theatre. We didn't see a performance, just the auditorium. Still cool, though.

Here's the Teleferico, which, according to wikipedia, is an airtram. It takes you from Cerro del Grillo to Cerro de la Bufa (both are hills). You get a very nice aerial view of the capital as you go from one place to another. The day my mom and I got on was windy, so it was swinging quite a bit. A tad scary, but worth it.

Some pics of the capital from the air (as we were dangerously swinging in the wind...heheh).

The JP dogtag and razorblade hanging out.

And here's a view of the city from the top of the hill. Notice that gigantic cathedral between the rock and the cacti. My mom and I got to lodge across the street from it during the three days we were there. Right next to it is the Palacio del gobierno (government palace). On the day that we visited the hill there was a protest organized by a big group of miners (mining is very big for the state). We got to hear their chanting from the hotel for most of the afternoon when we got back.

What does it mean when the horse in a statue has two feet off the ground? One? Three? Ok, I'll save the joke...four means the horse died in battle.
Francisco Villa was yet another that really got screwed by the US when they backed his rival, Carranza, btw. I'd also change my name too if it were, by birth, "Doroteo." Not very manly. |

Unfortunately the news tends to exaggerate. It's really not that dangerous as long as you don't visit the cities where the violence is at its highest. It's indeed sad, since the people are so nice. As long as you keep a firm hand on your belongings you should be fine. The ability to speak good Spanish is also a big plus. All three statues face a museum that has artifacts from the Mexican Revolution era, which includes guns, rifles, cannons, currency of the time and pictures of the revultion in progress. Really cool to see if you ever get to visit.
Here's the whole statue of Pancho Villa, one of the coolest statues EVER.

Here's another revolutionary, whose name was Pánfilo Natera. He helped Pancho Villa take over the (then) town of Zacatecas from the Federalists (rich European leaders/dictators who oppressed the poor). Later on he became the governor of the state.

And here's the other revolutionary, Felipe Ángeles, who also involved in the Battle of Zacatecas.

Here's all three them! Or at least, an attempt to get all three of them into one pic.

Day one at Heavenly, California / Nevada (big mountain!). First run and pop drops his glasses on a double black diamond. Oh great. Guess who has to go and get them! Nice "warmup run." I think he did it on purpose. Yeah, I am standing downhill. He isn't two feet taller than me! LOL!

Heavenly looking down at the casinos on the Nevada side.

Priest pic #1. Still Heavenly.

New place. Speaks for itself.

Another of Squaw. Home of the winter olympics some 60 years ago.

Finally, Kirkwood. Two poma lifts to get to the peak where I kicked off the boards and hiked to the highest point of the mountain. 9500+ feet of elevation where I took the following two shots. Only place where you really couldn't see Lake Tahoe. Loved the sign. "Your heirs might have to pay to try and find your carcass!"

Weeeeellll, thanx, gang! Yup, lovely time had by all.
Ron, to answer your question I wish you could hear the vid of me hoofing it up the peak I show in that last shot. YES, all you can hear in the minute vid I shot is me gasping for air while making that last climb in full gear. Probably could have heard my heart thumping as well were it not so windy. Great Pics Ron! Bev looks pretty with her sunglasses on heading out to the highway! :) I must admit, I've never seen Lake Mich at this time of year! Burr, hard to believe in a short while people will be out in bathing suits, and swiming in it! Now I know why it has such cold pockets of water in it!

Vail...with a lot of work you can skate on it. The problem is that the surface doesn't freeze to a smooth finish and it's really rough unlike a pond where there's no high and low tides. But it does make for some good ice fishing experiences LOL!!! |
