I agree with you about everyone gets a medal, or not keeping score. the kids know the score, and if we can teach them not to play to win, we teach them to play to lose.
on the victory celebrations, the CFL touchdown celebrations are geting realy stupid. watching the recieving core sit down playing duck duck goose, who came up with this idea?
bring on the extra point team and move the hell on. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Very well said, Ron. Not too sure I can improve on that.
You see, I come from a time when we were taught team sport. There was no such thing as a trophy just for showing up and, if you were not good enough, you did not make the team. It did not matter what your parent thought or what some kiddie psychologigst said. If you were no good, you were no good and needed to find something else to do. Coaches taught us how to play together , to support one another. We were there to win and we knew that it would take all parts, working in unison, to achieve our objective not one guy doing it all while we admired him.
Of course there was the standout. The great player that would carry us through the tough times and gain the big yards or get the key hit when we needed it but other teams knew that as well and played to stop that particular player. At one time or another, I was actually that guy!! Again, as a team, we could adjust to their folly and win the day. I will say this, in the entire time that I played sport, from school days right through adulthood, I never performed some stupid "victory dance" or acted out some moronic skit on the field of play. Never. Nor did any of my teammates. It was just not done. There is a certain dignity in being a winner and moreso in being very good at what you do. I have never needed to remind anyone on the field of my ability by acting foolish. My play spoke quite loudly.

DF, I played both organized baseball and football growing up. If I (or any other player) tried anything remotely similar to what these guys do now, we'd never see the playing field (if not outright cut).
I'm not sure at what level these players pick these- 'look at me, I'm a dancing butt hole' -celebrations up at, but it's out of control (IMHO). Wasn't it Owens who busted out the Sharpie marker after scoring a touchdown on MNF? Sue, it doesn't matter to me what team you (or anyone else) root for, to see someone show passion about their team is what I respect. That you root for the Cowboys or Lana roots for anything Pennsylvania () just gives me (and others ) something to pick on you guys about!!! All in good fun!! I'll never knock T.O.'s (or the others I mentioned) skills as a player, they are all great athletes in their own right, my problem is their 6 yr. old mentalities. Could you imagine a co-worker acting like him at work and having to put up with it every day?? And Williams is the EXACT same way, I wonder how they are going to get along the rest of the season?!
By the way, you ever want to hook up with a real team, you'll run in to them on Lake Shore Drive (LSD) in Chicago!! The thing that frustrates me the most about guys like T.O..they CAN be awesome players..just as long as they keep focused & keep their TRAPS SHUT. T.O. played bad-ass last season. Just wish he'd pull it off THIS year. *sighs* | | ronhartsell wrote: | | Pardon the interruption...but I must let you know DF that I've got your back on this one...I don't want to upset Sue, considering I love her passion for the game (I wish more women would be more like Her!!!)...but I grew up despising the Cowboys (only 'cause they were so good)...but with players like T.O., if you're a true fan of the game, you can't help but loathe a player like him (and he by NO means is the only player I feel this strongly about)...if a person is a serious Cowboys fan, you have to really be concerned with the team acquiring players such as WR Williams (from Detroit) and Pac Man Jones (suspended last year, Titans)...what is Jerry Jones thinking?? You ain't LYIN'. I was getting SO annoyed from those guys of the Rams "touchdown dancing" everytime they scored last Sunday. I was getting annoyed everytime the Rams scored PERIOD. But then to see that one dude do that stupid-ass dance REALLY got under my skin. Somebody SLAP him already.
