GREAT point, HB. I have seen it countless times!! The team that plays as a unit and works at the fundamentals is always victorious over the superstars. I have to laugh everytime I think of our glorious US basketball "dreamteam" that got smoked in the Olympics by a bunch of "nobody" teams a couple years ago!! HA!!!!! What a perfect example! It is amazing to see the team now. Lesson learned. Play together. I agree with you about everyone gets a medal, or not keeping score. the kids know the score, and if we can teach them not to play to win, we teach them to play to lose.
on the victory celebrations, the CFL touchdown celebrations are geting realy stupid. watching the recieving core sit down playing duck duck goose, who came up with this idea?
bring on the extra point team and move the hell on. | | Deep Freeze wrote: | | Very well said, Ron. Not too sure I can improve on that.
You see, I come from a time when we were taught team sport. There was no such thing as a trophy just for showing up and, if you were not good enough, you did not make the team. It did not matter what your parent thought or what some kiddie psychologigst said. If you were no good, you were no good and needed to find something else to do. Coaches taught us how to play together , to support one another. We were there to win and we knew that it would take all parts, working in unison, to achieve our objective not one guy doing it all while we admired him.
Of course there was the standout. The great player that would carry us through the tough times and gain the big yards or get the key hit when we needed it but other teams knew that as well and played to stop that particular player. At one time or another, I was actually that guy!! Again, as a team, we could adjust to their folly and win the day. I will say this, in the entire time that I played sport, from school days right through adulthood, I never performed some stupid "victory dance" or acted out some moronic skit on the field of play. Never. Nor did any of my teammates. It was just not done. There is a certain dignity in being a winner and moreso in being very good at what you do. I have never needed to remind anyone on the field of my ability by acting foolish. My play spoke quite loudly.

It doesn't help that most of the Cowboys key players are out from injuries & stuff including my Tony Romo. It's HOPELESS. They'd be damn LUCKY if they make it to the play-offs this season. I don't see it happening unless the Cowboys go undefeated the rest of the season. |
